## What is Expand?

You have a belief about yourself that's costing you. You probably know the one. Expand helps you find it, write it down, and test it in real life until it breaks.

Most self-help asks you to repeat a nicer sentence until it sticks. That isn't how minds change. Minds change when something you were sure would happen doesn't. Expand is built around that moment.

THE METHOD

The behavioral experiment is the core tool of cognitive behavioral therapy and one of the most studied techniques in psychology. Name what the old belief predicts. Do the thing. Watch reality disagree. Expand turns that into a loop you can run every day, with a planning step borrowed from research on implementation intentions, shown across nearly a hundred studies to boost follow-through.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Discover. A real conversation, not a questionnaire. Bring whatever's bothering you and leave with one sentence you've probably never said out loud. "If I show unfinished work, people will lose respect for me."

2. Audit. List everything that feels like proof. Then take it apart, piece by piece. Fact or interpretation? How old? Whose voice was that, originally? The case against you is usually thinner than it looks.

3. Flip. Write the rival belief. Not an affirmation. Something you could almost believe today. Expand pushes back on moonshots, because a belief that shatters on one lukewarm reply was never worth testing.

4. Remember. Dig up the evidence the old belief made you skip over. It doesn't prove the new belief. It earns it a test.

5. Experiment. Three experiments built around your life, each testing the belief from a different angle. Each is one concrete action you can do within 24 hours. Before you start, you name the safety move you'd normally hide behind and agree to drop it. You write down exactly what the old belief predicts and rate how likely that feels. You pick the moment you'll act. Then you run it, with a few check-ins along the way.

6. Reflect. When the window closes, one question comes first: did the prediction come true? Rate it again. Guided prompts help you make sense of what happened. If the old belief was wrong but a "yes, but" is still nagging at you, that doubt becomes the next experiment. If the run was unclear, you retry. If it went badly, you look at what's underneath.

7. Climb. Every experiment a belief survives moves it up its tracker. Week-long experiments unlock. The skills each one trained, like courage, curiosity, and asking for what you need, level up with them. Once you've worked a few beliefs, Expand checks whether one deeper core belief sits under all of them.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

The experiment decides. Not you, not the app. You're never sent out to collect evidence that you're great.

It gets to know you. Everything it learns is listed in Settings, where you can edit or delete any of it.

The bad day gets as much care as the good one. An experiment that goes wrong is information about the experiment, not a verdict on you.

Try it before you sign up. Tap "Continue without an account" and run the whole thing. Add an email later if you want your progress to follow you.

YOUR WORDS STAY YOURS

Everything you write is encrypted and locked to your account. It goes to our AI partner only to write your next reply. Never to train models, never to anyone else. No ads, no third-party analytics, no selling data. Export it all as a PDF, or delete every trace, anytime.

A NOTE

Expand is a tool for examining your own beliefs. It isn't therapy and doesn't treat, diagnose, or heal anything. If you're carrying something heavy, bring a human into it. Expand will always point you to support resources.

## Frequently asked questions about Expand

### What is Expand's core method for breaking limiting beliefs?

Expand utilizes behavioral experiments, a core tool of cognitive behavioral therapy. This method involves identifying what an old belief predicts, performing an action to test it, and observing reality's outcome to challenge the belief.

### How does Expand help users discover their limiting beliefs?

The app initiates a guided conversation, distinct from a typical questionnaire, to help users articulate a belief that is bothering them. This process aims to surface a specific, often unspoken, limiting belief.

### What is the 'Audit' step in Expand?

The Audit step involves listing all perceived evidence supporting an old belief. Users then analyze this evidence, distinguishing facts from interpretations and questioning the origin and age of the belief.

### Does Expand offer affirmations to change beliefs?

No, Expand focuses on testing beliefs through real-world experiments rather than affirmations. It encourages users to write a 'rival belief' that is almost believable today, pushing for practical change.

### How are experiments structured in Expand?

Expand guides users to design three experiments based on their life, each testing the belief from a different angle. These are concrete actions to be completed within 24 hours, with specific steps for planning and reflection.

### What happens if an experiment in Expand goes poorly?

If an experiment goes badly, Expand treats it as information about the experiment itself, not a verdict on the user. Guided prompts help users understand what happened and explore underlying issues.

### How does Expand handle user data and privacy?

Everything the app learns about a user is listed in Settings, where it can be edited or deleted. This ensures users have control over their personal information within the app.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-01

A fresh start and a clearer path through every belief.

• New welcome: a few quick questions set your personal baseline across five key skills and show your growth edge, then lay out what your first week looks like.
• New home screen: your journey as six days, one button for today, and the badges you've earned along the way. Your other beliefs sit right below.
• 5 Key Skills check-in: after six experiments on a belief, see how your scores have changed since you started. Track them over time in your profile.
• Smoother start: once you name your belief, the same conversation gathers the evidence behind it, and Examine picks up right where you left off.
• Talk instead of type: tap the mic in any chat or evidence field. It keeps listening through pauses and keeps everything you say.
• Sign in with Google, alongside Sign in with Apple.
• A cleaner profile: see what Expand knows about you, and swipe to remove anything.
• Clearer explanations when Expand suggests a new way to see something.
• Smoother screen transitions, plus fixes for text that didn't clear after sending.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-17

A shorter path to your first experiment, and a clearer one.

• Five phases instead of seven: Discover, Examine, Flip, Test, Reflect. Writing your new belief now leads straight to designing the experiment.
• The Examine phase is optional. Skip it if you're short on time, and come back to it anytime from the phase menu.
• The rehearsal step shows your plan, when you'll act and what you'll skip, so you picture the move, not the worry.
• After an experiment, you start by answering one question: did the limiting prediction come true?
• Sign in with Apple now keeps your email on the account, so we can help if you ever write in.
• Fixes a rare case where the first message on a returning account could fail.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-16

Refined the pre-experiment setup so you rehearse your plan, not the worry. Improved clarity in reflection phase language after each experiment.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-15

No release notes.
