Definitely worth it for someone constantly travelling, but not for the occasional user. I’m out ### 3/5 — Ah, the fine details…🤦🏻‍♂️ *2026-04-11, version 10.2.1* After spending money on two separate H_ma maps, Dirt M_p and a few others, I came across ExploreOZ from AllOfOffroad channel on YouTube. When I realised how information rich ExploreOZ is and not unnecessarily feature rich, I thought I had found a good app. And it is! The shared notes, photos, track information is just amazing. The app is way “lighter” than H_ma, less cumbersome and tracks do not disappear straight away when you zoom out. I also bought the offline map thinking: “Great, I bought a map, pay for the app and the map spent about $100 thinking I now OWN a map. How wrong I was. I realised later I basically bought just another subscription because the offline map is NOT mine regardless of the big initial bucks. The map is accessible only for 4 years! Then I have to buy the “license” again. It’s kinda like you buy a book from the bookstore but 4 years later to have to go back and pay again because you can’t access your book. How ridiculous! It should be called subscription. Very disappointed. I will now go back to Memory Maps where I do own what I once paid for. The mapping feature is much better and there’s absolutely no dodgy details about offline map that is a subscription for 4 years only. Nobody wants subscription. Once I pay for a map, I want to own it. Just like you buy a paper map. Because no updates for 4 years either. I have used the app extensively during my trips throughout Australia but equally important is the customer service provided by David and Michelle. They deserve a medal for the respectful and helpful service they provide to their subscribers. They can definitely give the multinationals a lesson in Customer Service, especially the banks and insurance companies. I often recommend it to folks looking for a dependable map app. ### 5/5 — 5 Stars *2024-12-05, version 9.1.4* I previously used HEMA app for my 4WD and motorbike camping trips but stopped using their products after endless IT issues and terrible customer service. I’ve been using ExploreOz for two years now and it’s a fantastic product - user friendly and accurate. The icing on the cake is that you can speak directly with the couple who created and maintain the app. Amazing customer service! ExploreOz is my app of choice after previously using HEMA, Garmin Explore, Gaia, OsmAnd. ### 5/5 — Awesome App *2024-10-23, version 9.0.2* I have used this map exclusively on trips and love it. It lives permanently in my car running on an iPad Mini 5 and is great to get a wider picture of where you are. I use Google Maps on the mobile to navigate just because it’s easy but when out of coverage I can always see where I am with the offline vector maps which awesome. Great work, ### 5/5 — The only navigation package to have *2024-08-07, version 9.0.2* I know this is a big statement but the upgrade to v9 has shown the ongoing product development that Michelle and David make to ExplorOz. The way they interact with customers directly is a key reason this product has evolved to be a market leader. Others have tried but I believe they have all been outclassed by ExplorOz. I use this app both on road and off road and just love the mapping system. Detail is amazing. ### 5/5 — Exceptional Service! *2024-08-06, version 8.7.3* A big Thank You to Michelle for her amazing help and guidance assisting me to understand, navigate, setup and use the App. Being dyslexic and not very tech savvy person I was having a few challenges. I called Michelle quit late in the day (she was just about to have dinner) and she walked me through my issues one step at a time. Michelle’s has the patience of a saint and made me feel very comfortable. I would go as far as saying it was the best phone customer service I have ever experienced. Thank you so much. Very much appreciated. Alex ### 5/5 — Best Australian Mapping App *2024-07-07* I have only come across very few bugs, usually fixed in following year’s update. The maps are clear and easy to read, with all the detail you could ask for. Also, if you have an issue and message them, they get back to you as soon as possible and persist until you have issue resolved (both times my error), very impressive service. I love sitting around campfire with this on iPad and examining next day’s travel. Highly recommend this one. **Developer response:** Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review! We have a rigorous testing process before releasing updates, but in the unlikely event something slips through, we act quickly to address it (within hours or days). ### 5/5 — Found what I had always been looking for… *2024-05-13, version 8.6.2* After spending money on two separate H_ma maps, M Maps, Dirt M_p and a few others, I came across ExploreOZ from AllOfOffroad channel on YouTube. When I realised how information rich ExploreOZ is and not unnecessarily feature rich, I realised I found the ONE. The shared notes, photos, track information is just amazing. The app is way “lighter” than H_ma, less cumbersome and tracks do not disappear straight away when you zoom out. Plus, you can buy a map once and it’s yours. No silly subscription that everybody hates. We all know that. I mean there is subscription but not having it does not render the app useless. The offline map is yours, you bought it, you keep it, you use it. And I LOVE the simple layout. Probably not as beautiful as H_ma but I am using this app for functionality ONLY. Especially in the Simo, the Great Outback where nobody cares if an app has beautiful colours or not, all we care about how not to get lost. Everything is else is unimportant. Well done team. Map version purchased was de-supported by the app in Jan 2025. Theres a way better Oz app than this one which works flawless. ### 1/5 — Stop Update Prompts! *2024-07-03, version 8.7.3* Seriously, yeh the maps are good, but hope to god that the app does not receive an update while you are out 4x4ing in a remote location with intermittent and slow data! Why do you need to prompt me every time my darn phone gets the slightest wiff of reception to update, forcing me to stop driving to close the prompt, because I dont have enough reception to download it. I can spend months on the road and some times it will happen more than 20 times in a day. Who cares if there is an update, ill do it in the app store when I want to, before a trip, not reminding me constantly!!! Please remove the update prompt function from the app! ### 1/5 — Poor App, Great Map *2024-05-12* I’ve been using this app on all 3 platforms for some time now. I originally purchased for a Kimberley trip and added the PC version after the web app had features removed. I’m now looking at something else for my main navigation tool. This app is fine as a planning tool when in 4G or 5G mobile range or with wifi available, but outside of that it’s too unreliable. I have been caught out several times with the app needing a data purge and redownload to get functionality back which renders the app next to useless as a navigation tool and when living and travelling in the Pilbara it’s generally out of action for my entire trip. I do rate the EO Topo map but with it only being available on the Traveller app it will be used for planning only and unlikely to update going forwards. I’d really appreciate the developers making the map available on alternative navigation platforms. **Developer response:** We're sorry to hear that you have had a few hiccups during travels. We are only too happy to help. ### 1/5 — Dumb! *2024-03-17, version 8.6.1* Worste map ever don’t waste $60 ### 1/5 — Waste of money, incorrect maps and very buggy app that feel like it’s from the 90’s *2023-11-17, version 8.2.2* We brought this map after watching a number of YouTube reviews. These review must’ve been sponsored as they were total BS. The maps are constantly wrong sending you to dead ends and one time into dead end which was a toilet block though a campsite. Map also very hard to read while on the move unless you have a passenger to spend all their time trying to work out the map. Wanted to like the app and support Australian company but it’s total rubbish and the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. There are a number of cheaper and even free apps that are significantly better than this. Avoid for your own sanity. ### 1/5 — Dont waste your money *2023-11-03, version 8.2.2* We looked at this and a few others and choose this after watching some reviews. Obviously paid content as this is a total stinker and waste of money. The maps are outdated, inacurate and there is no easy way to tell what type of trail it is and once took us through a campground into a toilet block claining it was a through road. We have since found apps that are much more reliable and accuate that cost significantly less. Save your money and dont buy this app. ### 1/5 — Waste of money *2023-10-19, version 8.1.3* Just buy a paper map book,Doesn’t work properly once out of mobile range.had trip planned and saved in treks like I thought we had to but once we got to an area we thought it would be really helpful it was not .was useless on recent trip through the gulf and into NT,very disappointed,did not want to waste time trying to get support as we were in a remote area trying to figure out how far it might be to the next camp area for the night it should just work from beginning like I thought it would when I PAID good money for it!!!! Tried Hema and found them not user friendly and a waste of money since they sold out to a corporation. ExplorOz has a great back of house support in dealing with issues, requests for help are always responded to quickly and directly by an technical support person here in Australia. ### 5/5 — The best maps for exploring *2025-09-08, version 9.5.4* I have used ExplorOz maps for 10 years now and find them the best of all mapping Apps, especially if you want to explore our wide open land. We have done all the desert remote tracks and found the ExplorOz maps gave more accurate information than any other. Their tracker App is also great to use and allows your loved one to follow your journeys. The Red roads contrast well against the off white and light green background making it much easier to see the roads compared to google’s grey roads or the Streets and Paths option available in this app. The snail trail is also easy to read. ### 5/5 — Love my ExploreOz app! *2025-04-20, version 9.3.1* Awesome app for exploring Oz! Track driving and getting out of town and onto the beaten track! ### 5/5 — Maps with the works! *2025-04-02* We are travelling full time and have been running multiple apps to navigate, find sites and track our travels. After some issues with other big name mapping apps we decided to give ExplorOz a try. The app has all of the features we are looking for and more! We love the ability to run the ExplorOz app COMPLETELY offline and still have access to points of interest, thumbnails and reviews. The maps are clear and easy to read. There is a huge amount of customisation if you want to ‘nerd out’ with that or just leave it as it comes. We also signed up for the ExplorOz membership as this lets us track our travels, attach notes and photos and share this all with family via private links or even a public share if we like. Overall we are incredibly impressed with this ‘all-in-one’ style app which continues to improve each day.
