The hints come in handy for those just getting started. Well worth the price of the app and I will recommend this app! My son especially loves that he gets to hear Mommy's voice! The children will love the ability to record their voices and play it back. This app allows the kids to make up sentences about pictures as well as filling in missing words in a sentence. My students love recording their voice. This is meaningful content and it doesn't take a lot to get kids to want to do it. I would recommend it for a classroom and home use. It's another wonderful app that gives your child the ability to record his own voice and play it back---a great positive reinforcement! She absolutely loves being able to learn while playing. The pictures draw her in and make it so she is able to make the right decisions better. This has been an issue we have been working on for homeschool so getting it is a huge plus for us!!! It gives just enough reinforcement to keep their interest yet not too much to be a distraction. I've used it in therapy with special education kids with various disabilities. Some were not able to make sentences which was ok. I think that it is a great therapy tool for sentence construction. Import picture is in its place which makes quickly moving between pictures impossible. I was using and loving this app for a variety of speech-language needs. Please bring back the skip image button! ### 2/5 — Lack Diversity *2022-10-12, version 2.2.0* I really enjoy using these cards. They’re great for teaching a variety of actions and pronouns. However, they would be more inclusive if there were a wider variety of ethnicities represented among the pictures. ### 2/5 — Not worth the money *2011-06-25, version 1.5* I purchased this app for my 6 year old son that has Expressive Language Disorder hoping we had found a fun interactive way to practice his speech. Unfortunately, it disappointed in many ways. Pros - Can create multiple accounts if using for more than one child. My children quickly learned what the buttons meant even though they couldn't read the words like, "record". Pictures are of good quality. Cons - You need to purchase add ons to access the entire databank of pictures. You ca purchase them all for $16.99, which, quite frankly, I think should just be included in the original app price. If your child is not able to read full sentences, the hints function requires the parent to read the "hint". This takes away the "cool" factor for my son who can immediately see this is atop, and not a game because mom has to hover over him. The recording feature can easily be replicated using the free video recorder on the iPad. And my son prefers this as he gets to watch himself and hear his own voice. I really feel like I wasted my money on this. Hopefully this review will help other parents save their money. My daughters love to play it back and giggle every time when they hear how good it sounds with their OWN voices!!! Getting them to put it down for dinner or home work is another ball game but they are totally engaged and learning in a fun and unique way. In Language Builder we find beautiful pictures and the prompt "What do you see in the picture?" This is a fantastic tool to use with any age group or population. Whether the user be SLI, ELD, or just language emergent this is a great tool to get students talking. The three level of prompting are great, though I would like to see the verbal prompts at all levels. If a user is not able to read yet he or she cannot independently utilize the hint tools. Overall, a great tool to get get students verbalizing. ### 4/5 — Yet another great educational app *2012-08-21, version 1.7* This app is great for making kids think about how to describe a scene while teaching them sentence structure. While his receptive language is almost developed to where it should be for his age, his expressive language is still very delayed. Language Builder has large libraries of pictures that we can use to help him practice using words to describe the things and actions that he sees. The app houses pictured scenes that users are asked to create sentences about. This isn’t a written language task; the user formulates the sentence in their mind and then says it aloud while recording it. This voice record feature is highly motivating for our students! They love hearing themselves say the sentences that they have formulated about the pictures and enjoy playing with their voices in their recordings! The pictured scenes are appropriate for users of all ages and serve as a great teaching tool for a variety of skills. WH-Questions can be asked about the pictures, complex stories can be created by linking the pictures together to tackle creative writing skills. One of my favorite ways to use this app is as a self-monitoring tool for speech production targets (e.g., articulation, fluency and voice). Students can listen to their recordings and judge if they used their best /s/ sound, or if they used their best ‘smooth speech’. ### 5/5 — Amazing app *2012-09-13, version 1.7.1* This app is especially amazing for kiddos dealing with auditory processing issues and receptive/expressive language delays. The pictures alone challenge the child to create their own sentence based on e real life picture, but for those kids who need extra help, the app offers hints...at 3 different levels of difficulty. Love that the child can record the sentences in their own voice. I highly recommend this app for any child dealing with autism, language delays, or other disabilities. ### 5/5 — Essential speech skills practice. *2012-09-04, version 1.7.1* This app is perfect for younger kids who struggle with language in various different ways. I've been using it with my autistic 4 year old and it is so exciting to see him progress as we work through the library of pictures. It gives simple and engaging sentence stems and allows students to fill in the blanks (even in their own voice!). I also really like how it uses real photos to help students 'buy in' or engage in the sentence story they are making. The hints vary from fill in the blank, to prompting with a couple of writen words, to verbal cuing, depending on the level of the child. My daughter enjoys filling in the blanks right now and it is building her confidence in talking about the things she sees or experiences. I like that the app is easy to just pick up and use rather than needing a long tutorial. And the pictures are engaging and entertaining to my daughter. There are quite a few picture "packs" to choose from, something for almost any child. My daughter prefers the pets pack but if there was a "gaming" pack, she would certainly love that one most of all. Overall, a great app and one that is fun to use while helping my child overcome some of her verbal challenges. ### 5/5 — ANOTHER HIT!!! *2012-08-26, version 1.7* Another hit from Mobile Education Store!
