Daunting to think of all the camera sensor lens options out there and that the developers scoured for all that and put it together in such a useful reference tool. It’s good for figuring out solutions but also inspires some ideas of possibilities to test instead of just default choices.

One request : in the Sensor comparison, would love if the sensor modes for a camera could be cycled as a slider quickly instead of having to select from a list of modes. This may not be useful for others, but on some modern cameras there are so many ridiculous and varied sensor modes that it could be useful to reference quickly and visually different options in comparison to another set working space.

Excellent reference software for photography and cinematography, featuring an extensive database of professional hardware shared with Cadrage (and thus forming the perfect companion app)! I find it incredibly useful for comparing, planning, contemplating and researching different potential hardware systems for use within creative projects. Thoughtfully designed and engineered with a clean, feature rich GUI and fast/intuitive to use!

I wanted an app that showed how certain camera lens combos might compare to my iphone framing. I downloaded this one but it wasn’t the app I was looking for.
This is more of a technical app for precise cinematographic calculations.
The developers got in touch and told me that the correct app for me is CADRAGE DIRECTOR’S VIEWFINDER.
Overall, after my initial disappointment, I give these guys 5 stars because the apps are great and their customer service is even better.

This is one of the most useful apps on my phone. It’s got a great database of cameras and lenses, but you can also create custom cameras/lenses if yours isn’t already there. I use this ALL the time to determine what lens I need for a given coverage at distance. But also whether I can get everything in the shot when space is limited. It’s really robust. My most frequently used features are FOV and DOF. Can’t recommend this highly enough.

For lens matching alone this is a fantastic tool. But it does so much more - Depth of field and Hyperfocal, FOV. 

Indispensable for the serious film maker, especially if you’re using two cameras with different lenses, sensors or both.

I recommend this app to all of my filmmakers and 1st AC friends. I just wish there was a way to add more lenses.

brilliant app, essential part of the kit.
My only wish is to understand whether “distance” is based on distance from the sensor or distance from the front of the lens.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your kind review! You question is a very good one. The distance is calculated from the principal plane of the lens, which is often roughly in the middle of the lens or around the aperture. This is the only optical plane that the app can mathematically do these calculations for. Don't worry about it too much though, for most practical purposes you can just assume the distance from the sensor. This is sufficiently accurate for DOF calculations and FOV calculations unless you are in an extreme macro range. Hope this helps! When I am in the "sensors" tab, using lens adapters does not take into account the size of the camera sensor. I would like to see changes on the sensor size using different lens adapters.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review! Since the sensor size is a hardware specification, it is not dependend on lens adapter usage, so the sensor size will always be the same. Lens adapters do change the coverage of a lens though, which is reflected in the "Coverage" tab. Maybe this is what you are looking for?
