I used it for 3 straight days in preparing for my ATP written and I scored an 85 with no issues. The app does a great job of breaking down each subject and allowing you to concentrate on a specific area for your question bank studies. The "flash card" option worked great for me and also offers an explanation tab that references the official answers from the source. I highly recommend this app, especially for those that love the convenience of having the entire ATP question bank right on your phone - Enjoy! jc135g8r ### 4/5 — Worked for me - but YMMV... *2014-08-02* After buying 3 different iOS apps for the ATP (plus buying the King DVD’s), I found that the Dauntless version was the best to use (I bought the Prepware, Sheppard and Dauntless). Studied like crazy for a month (I did not have any other pilot certification but wanted to make it in before the Aug, 1st 2014 deadline). I thought I was well prepared as I consistently got over 85% on every sample test in the iOS app. Test day in July 2014 and I did not recognize a lot of the questions but the Dauntless app did allow me to pass with a 73%. It isn’t ideal but a pass is a pass and I’m a happy camper. I have 3 other friends that I recommended this app. 1 passed and 2 others failed. ALL 3 reported that they did not recognize a lot of the questions so it seems the FAA had new questions that weren’t in this app. Since the FAA will be changing the ATP exam as well as the structure of the qualifications after 8/1/14, be aware that this (and all other preparation companies) will probably have to play catch up. In all after spending over a thousand dollars in pilot study apps, I feel the Dauntless programs are the best in how they operate and in the amount of customization of how the material is presented to the user. For some of the shorter quizzes this would be acceptable but this study group can take several hours to finish if you work all of the problems. After finishing a subject it is also inconvenient to have to restart the entire area again. ### 5/5 — Great app! *2014-04-23* This app is full of up to date faa knowledge and has everything you need to pass the knowledge test. I highly recommend this user friendly app. I learned more here then I did studying aviation science in college for 2 years. You won't regret this great price app full of all the knowledge you need. ### 5/5 — Military Pilot working to ATP rating *2014-04-13* A military pilot for over 30 years, we are trained to review and update knowledge through question banks. This app allows not only a complete review of entire bank, but also tailored study areas. The practice test is able to drill down and give solid feedback on areas needing more review. To dauntless' credit, they are always striving to keep the question bank up to date, but the FAA must have snuck a few into the test before dauntless could update to reflect the changes. I got a 93% on the part 121 ATP by using this app in conjunction with king schools (speaking of out of date!!). All in all, I recommend it. ### 5/5 — Pro grade, the best stuff *2014-01-26* I got my private before there were "apps" so I toiled with books. Dauntless apps are the finest . They are streamlined and elegant interfaces. They are put together and administered by pro pilots, you can tell. I have been strictly using these products for MEI, CFI-A, CFII and ATP writtens and oral practical prep. These are pro grade products. The explanations are spelled out by the very experienced crew of pilots they have there. The price is unbeleivably low for the value. Technically the interface is smooth, never have had a single hiccup. In fact for My CFII I also got he audio lessons too so I could study while driving or whatever and I very nearly aced my written (1 wrong ....argh!) I really recommend the audio the really set the facts in your head. This is not rote memorization. Explanation is always given when needed. I recommend dauntless to all my students at all levels. The old books just don't get it done and the big name video programs are too costly and bulky/time consuming compared to the results. You want to learn and pass tests? Cool. Get Dauntless. ### 5/5 — A must have before your written test *2014-01-11* Having used Dauntless study materials before I was excited to see that they have entered the app world. Needless to say they did not disappoint. The program/app is simple to use and is updated with all the current question banks. Every question is accompanied by an explanation and the flash card study mode is great. I highly recomend this app to anyone whos ready to take a written FAA exam. Today it is well worth the money! ### 5/5 — I like it *2013-09-12* Studying for my ATP Helicopter in my spare time. This app works great and I'm getting better and better grades on my quizzes. It's pretty flexible and you can customize it for the way you like to learn. Please fix! ### 1/5 — Recent ATP most questions not on exam *2014-12-28, version 9.5.8* I had bought the complete package from Dauntless and spent the last 6 months studying! Less than a dozen questions were on my ATP exam that I saw in the software! Grew frustrated because the app would often crash. Not the convenience I purchased it for. As a result I stopped using it, and bought an actual paperback study guide book. And that’s without checking for updates. ### 2/5 — Good data but clumsy interface, some poor explanations *2013-09-16* I'm currently using the app to study for 135 ATP written exams. Every time I start the app, I have to go through the startup menu to reselect my choice of 135 - surely the app can be made to remember this? Also, it would be better if it would offer the choice of automatically saving a session before exiting, instead of forcing the user to remember to page back to somewhere else in the app to save a session. I've lost count of the number of times I have had to restart study of a chapter from the beginning because if forgot to save a session before exiting. Also, why can't the saved sessions include the name of the chapter? It would be better too if there was some way to measure study progress to see how much of each chapter has been completed. On the whole the data is good, and the explanations are fair. However, there are some questions in which the explanations are poor or wrong -eg on all the questions about BE1900 Cargo version CofG calculations the explanation states that "crew weights are included in aircraft empty weight". If this is really true, perhaps they could explain why? On all the similar questions about BE1900 passenger version the crew weights are used in the calculation. Also, there are several explanations in flight preparation section which glibly state "correct wind for magnetic variation" without giving any clue as to where on the figures they have obtained magnetic variation - I have spent a long time looking at the figures and haven't found it yet. These small issues would not be a problem if they offered any support - but although I have emailed these questions to Dauntless they never reply. ### 2/5 — Good but.... *2013-05-30, version 9.3* If only it didn't crash every time I used it, it'd be great. Usually I can answer a load of questions but it then crashes when I back through them looking at the incorrect ones. And when I re-start it, it's forgotten which questions I answered. I don't think I could pass the written by just using this. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great Study Guide *2024-02-19* Used this to study in converting my Canadian helicopter ATP over to FAA. Large question bank that was pretty much word for word with what I got on the actual 40 question exam. Spend a few weeks memorizing these, and you’ll pass without a problem. ### 5/5 — Helps a lot with the test *2020-06-18* I have tried to use other applications to help me study for various FAA tests but they would have outdated questions or it would only be a final test and not help with the preparation of the test. I believe that the work that was put into this app but all the other apps that they have made is extremely well thought out and done in a fashion that makes it easy for the user to customize what they need to study for and what they are having trouble remember for the test. They also have amazing customer support for any questions that you have or any problems you have with the app. I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to study for an FAA test and be able to study anywhere at anytime. ### 5/5 — Excellent app and customer service! *2020-06-03* I just passed my helicopter ATP checkride on June 1, 2020! This app was my only written study guide. Full disclosure, my helicopter ATP ride was an add-on rating, so my written was only 50 questions. This app, however, prepared me for exactly what I needed, as it can be tailored to your testing requirements. I scored a 92% on my written, where I missed two questions that were absolute bonehead mistakes on my part. There were two additional questions I missed where I answered them correctly per the app prep, but graded incorrectly by the FAA. I contacted Dauntless customer support about those two questions (and others throughout my studying), and Dauntless always responded to every inquiry. They were grateful for my grading input and said they’d revise those answers in the app. Top notch! Although I never completed initially, the study material provided by Dauntless was all I needed to pass the test. Years later I plan to finally complete my ATP, and the Dauntless content is all updated, current, and I expect will be all I need again to complete the written.... now to make sure I can get the flight portion complete this time!
