### 4/5 — Learning my listening

*2024-07-28, version 10.3.10*

I bought the learning my listening but it won’t let me use it claiming that the app has and update and when I’m in the App Store theirs no update

### 4/5 — Beware - some incorrect answers

*2021-01-14*

As a flight instructor myself, I will say that, on the whole, I find that this is a very worthwhile app for preparing for a checkride - much better than the paperback guides out there. However, as I am going through all of the questions myself, I’m finding a number of incorrect answers which I’ve submitted review requests through the app and have yet to hear anything back. Hopefully the developer is responsive and makes the necessary corrections.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2020-06-18*

I have tried to use other applications to help me study for various FAA tests but they would have outdated questions or it would only be a final test and not help with the preparation of the test. I believe that the work that was put into this app but all the other apps that they have made is extremely well thought out and done in a fashion that makes it easy for the user to customize what they need to study for and what they are having trouble remember for the test. They also have amazing customer support for any questions that you have or any problems you have with the app. I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to study for an FAA test and be able to study anywhere at anytime.

### 5/5 — Extremely effective.

*2020-06-14*

I only missed two questions on the private pilot exam and I give credit to using this app in my spare time. The explanations to each question was very helpful in understanding the concepts.

### 5/5 — Glider test prep

*2020-03-16, version 10.3.2*

Scored a 97% on my PGL (private pilot glider) written test! The questions were spot on! If you need study material for the glider written this is great! Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — 98% on PPL Knowledge Exam

*2019-10-30*

This app is amazing, I used this to study for my PPL knowledge exam in lieu of a long ground school. I scored a 98%, the highest they had seem at the testing center that i took the exam at, the only question i missed was throughly discussed and explained throughout the app, i just had a brain fart (can i say fart on here). Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Great study guide!

*2019-07-27*

Where this app shines is in the explanations after each question. If you get a question wrong, or are in study mode, the app explains how to arrive at the correct answer and provides references on where to seek more info on the topic at hand. That’s where I find the greatest value- prepping you for your check ride knowledge test. I do wish there were more FAR/AIM questions though. Especially the FAR category. The regs are a really dense and difficult to study - worse than weather theory IMHO.

### 5/5 — AMAZING test aid!

*2019-07-18*

I’ve bought and used other FAA Test prep Apps and I have to say this is by far #1! This is the only App I know that has the audio option, which for me is amazing. I travel a lot and it is really nice to be able to listen to the questions and answers especially while driving. I really feel like I can make the most out of my study time. I also like that the App stays up to date. If you’re going to spend money on a Test Prep App then this should be your first choice.

### 5/5 — A most needed app to pass your test

*2019-07-17*

I am a very busy person and have a very hard time finding time to study for my written test which is a requirement to become a private pilot. I find this app extremely helpful to study in between the times I have some free time.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2019-04-17, version 10.3.2*

Very good app for studying for the private pilot written. Would have given five stars except when looking at figures, it’s very annoying that you can’t see the question and constantly have to flip back and forth

### 5/5 — This software does test prep PERFECTLY!

*2019-03-17*

I can’t say enough about how helpful Dauntless is for private pilot test prep. The questions are accurate and the explanations are exactly what are needed. They are not overly involved nor too brief to be helpful. The images and graphs are clear. The whole app is very responsive.

And as long as we are talking about responsive, I’ve had some questions for the developers, regarding PC versus MAC versus iOS and they were extremely responsive.

Overall, this is a great app. Turns out my flight instructors use it as well and these are guys with more than 10,000 hours of military and commercial time.

### 5/5 — I recommend it

*2019-02-27, version 10.3.2*

For the private Helicopter pilot is perfect 100 %

### 5/5 — Awesome Test Prep App

*2019-01-03*

I’ve used only Dauntless for all of my FAA tests and have always passed with high scores in a short amount of time. I enjoy the app’s feature that allows you to focus on specific topics so you can really polish your weak areas. All of the reference materials have been cited and consolidated into each question, which allows you to learn the material from the source. My private test was straightforward and I’m once again impressed with Dauntless’s platform. Thank you!!

### 5/5 — This is THE software to get for private pilot test prep

*2018-11-23*

I’m very happy with this app. It has helped me so much in preparing for my private pilot exams and I highly recommend this for anybody preparing to take their private pilot exams.
I love the explanations and my instructor really like the mock testing modules.

### 5/5 — Excellent Training App

*2018-09-02*

Just passed the private pilot written test with a 92% because of this app!! This app is excellent and the best $50 I’ve spent in my private pilot training so far. Studying books is fine, but not very dynamic. Online videos are fine, but not comprehensively assembled. This app puts it all together and teaches you tactically and in the same format as the actual test. Seamlessly sync’s your iPhone and iPad so you can study at your convenience. I highly recommend any student use it.

### 5/5 — Would never have passed without this

*2018-05-04, version 10.3.2*

I cannot speak highly enough about this app. I started my studies using the FAA books, but they were daunting and overloaded with data. I switched to the Jeppesen PPL book and it was well organized and helped me figure out what I needed to focus on. As I studied sections, I used this app for my testing. I started with questions and immediate answers. What was awesome was that I could flag questions and come back to them. Eventually I would focus on just the questions I had flagged. A week before my written test I started doing 60 question tests graded at the end to mimic the actual test. Sometimes I would do tests with the charts and others without. The program is very flexible. And, the explanations for the answers and why they are what they are is very well thought out. The app along with the Jeppesen book really helped me understand all of the concepts. While the chart questions take a little longer, I was flying through 200-300 questions in an hour and getting 90-100 percents. I was endorsed for private study by a flight school and am doing my actual flying instruction after the written. When I went for my written test I scored an A and took only 45 minutes to finish the test (2.5 hours is allowed). I scored higher than many of the students who were enrolled and studying at flying school, and I did my studies on my own. I credit this app with my success. It was amazing, and my “A” is proof of how organized and amazing this app is. Plus the questions in the app really are the exact questions on the FAA test.

### 5/5 — Helped me pass the FAA exam

*2018-02-17*

I used this app as my main test studying tool. It’s always up to date. It also has several different testing options so I could customize how I wanted to be tested. You can test just the areas that you need improvement on, simulate the FAA exam, or have several options in between. I also purchased the audio testing add-on and listened to test questions and answers in my car which worked great (although the sound volume sometimes varied with each question). It also has the supporting charts/diagrams for each question just like on the FAA exam. I would recommend this app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — iPhone to Ipad

*2020-10-31, version 10.3.2*

I bought the app on my iPhone because I don’t have my iPad yet, do I have to pay 50$ again to download it on my iPad or it will be automatically free because it’s on the cloud ? However this app never ask me for my email.
I hope your answer thank you.

### 1/5 — So much potential, a long way to go

*2020-10-06*

A few things.

1. The audio system you have chose for the app is a bit of a mess. It fights with other apps over the audio playback controls and is a nightmare to manage whilst driving, which of course is dangerous. It does not respond to headphone play pause commands. It absolutely should be plugged into Apple’s iOS playback system,, it comes across as a shortcut and cheap whatever you have selected to do.

2. The app needs a dark mode, studying at night is blinding and makes it difficult to sleep after staring at the bright screen.

3. The audio quality on some clips is APPALLING. The need to be re-recorded.

4. Use apple’s iCloud for storage of data, progress, questions answered, the cloud solution you provide is hit and miss, sometimes I cant even sign in!

5. Generally make the app more friendly for iOS, use ‘Sign with Apple’. This app could be so much more user friendly. IOt feels like it is made by engineers with no design or UX experience.

### 1/5 — Not a great value proposition

*2019-04-12*

I've tried most of the leading test prep apps, this one being the most expensive by a wide margin. You’d think that would include extra functionality, but it’s the standard question and answer type format, with various modes like show me the answer, simulated exam, flashcard, etc

The questions are the same as you’ll find in all these test prep type apps, but the look and feel of this app needs some serious work. It looks like a website from the 90s, full of weird sound effects (a cash register cha ching????) and backgrounds with puffy clouds that add nothing to the actual learning, and actually make it more difficult to read.

You can save yourself a lot of money with one of the other alternatives, most of which are easier to use (and easier on the eyes and ears).

### 1/5 — Why would anybody use this app??

*2016-12-26, version 9.6.11*

I'd be shocked if all those positive reviews are legit. Notice that few or none of the review authors purport to have actually PASSED the FAA written. After floundering and falling asleep staring at this app, I signed up at a real flight school. They use King Schools (also recommended by my friend who was awarded Pilot Of The Year by our state DOT). King has videos taught by human instructors. You NEED such instruction to pass. Don't be fooled.

### 1/5 — App is now unusable since iOS update along with newest version

*2015-04-24, version 9.6.2*

Even with version 9.6.2 and many attempts to reinstall app it continues to crash on IPhone 6plus and IPad Mini 2 and when it does open to test questions shows a blank screen no questions whatsoever.
Have attempted to resolve through support. No luck!
Hopefully gets resolved soon, was a great app.

### 1/5 — Current version doesn't work

*2015-04-23, version 9.6.1*

Don't buy this app until they fix the issue with the current version. They say it only affects 5% of customers, but it doesn't work on either my iphone6 or my iPad mini.

### 1/5 — No customer service phone, problems with app

*2015-04-21, version 9.6.1*

After encountering some problems with the app after using it for awhile, I proceeded to go onto the website only to find that dauntless does not offer a customer service phone number, but only a "helpdesk" option which is basically an email address with no promise of when they will get back with you. They do however give a lengthy explanation of why they don't bother to offer a phone number to call. They also offer an in app upgrade for $19.99 which is the MP3 review of the questions. After downloading this, I found that only about 87 of the questions were offered in MP3 format as opposed to the 800+ questions offered in the app for review. After Submitting a problem ticket, you will receive an email that states "if your message warrants it, you will receive a reply soon." I would think the fact that I purchased an app from dauntless instead of one of the other countless companies that I could've given my business to would warrant a quick response. They also suggest that you might want to try looking up your issue online. I think for further Apps to purchase, I will use my time searching online for a different company to purchase apps room.

### 1/5 — Frustration

*2015-04-21, version 9.6.1*

The idea of the app is great. Execution not so great. I have limited funds and limited time to study and I just paid $50 for this app, another $20 for the audio and it crashes every 2-3 minutes.

Refund my $70

### 1/5 — Crab

*2013-12-08*

Expensive. Vocal teaching works only sometimes and even then almost every question has a different loudness. when I turn off my iPhone and turn it on again all the audio files are gone. Wasted money. Needs a lot of programers work.

### 1/5 — Database failure!!!!

*2012-06-18*

Seriously? Can u please refund those who bought the app or fix the issue or there will be official complaints for negligence!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Does The Job

*2025-10-14*

Not the most modern feeling or aesthetically pleasing, but the questions are updated often and have very in-depth explanations. Pair that with numerous practice modes and a clever stack system that allows you to focus on questions you struggle on and this becomes one of the best test-prep softwares available.

### 5/5 — I just did my written 3 days ago

*2024-10-18*

All the material that i studied with this app was super helpful, i got a 85% I recommend it 100% just get at least 2 weeks focusing with the app and you’ll get a really good score 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

### 5/5 — Dauntless

*2024-04-23, version 10.3.10*

GREAT APP!
It allows me to work on my knowledge wherever I am whether I am in line at a fast food store or filling my car with gas.
Very convenient to learning my deficiencies and the explanations are comprehensive.

### 5/5 — Tremendous help

*2022-10-31, version 10.3.10*

Practice tests = 90, actual = 92. Thanks!

### 5/5 — The Best!

*2021-12-28*

Hands-down the best FAA test prep program available. The explanations to the answers are very straightforward and quite explicit. The program is designed not simply to get you to pass the test but to instill a level of understanding about the material that will also make you a safe pilot. I’ve tried many different programs for studying for the exams and Dauntless is the best!

### 5/5 — The best material to pass the knowledge test.

*2021-11-15*

I taked my knowledge test 5 months ago with 98 percent on the score. All questions on this app are almost the same on the real test. This material really prepare you to the exam to pass with more than 90%. I promise you.

### 5/5 — FANTASTIC Test Prep!!

*2021-07-30*

I just scored a 97% on my PPL glider exam! I tried studying all of the textbooks, but I found that the explanations in the app were far more concise and easier to understand. I really liked that the app is continually updated. I discovered that most of the questions on my exam were found verbatim in this app. I would definitely recommend this software to any new student!!

### 5/5 — Worth it and highly recommended

*2021-04-09*

I hate studying and I still do. But this app made it way less painful to grasp information. They show illustrations that pertain to questions and help you visualize what is being asked. Unlike other apps where they only give a written bland explanation. I scored a 97% on my PPL written And am using Dauntless software for my IFR now.

### 5/5 — 100x better then ASA!

*2021-02-03, version 10.3.2*

Multiple options for study methods. Don’t study the stuff you already know. Love the automatic stacking. Even an audio option. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Best test prep I’ve seen!

*2020-12-07*

Wonderful, clean, very detailed and accurate FAA private pilot test prep application! I would highly recommend this to any private pilot student who is struggling to learn the concepts needed for the FAA private pilot exam. This app gives you multiple options to study with quick response to each answer whether right or wrong and a detailed explanation of the criteria.
