Defend Earth with a bouncing ball, a paddle ship, and your friends' faces stuck on the aliens. Face Invaders is a one-thumb arcade game. Steer your ship, bounce the ball up into the swarm, and pop the invaders before they punch through Earth's shield. Easy to pick up, tricky to put down. Here's the twist: open Invader Studio, hand it a few photos, and your friends become the aliens. Give them names and they'll be announced when they turn up as a boss. Their faces never leave your phone. WHAT'S INSIDE • 120 levels across 12 galaxies, each with its own look and mood • 12 giant bosses, one per galaxy, every one of them wearing a face • 61 alien designs, so no two galaxies send the same invaders at you • Power-ups: multiball, wide paddle, piercing fireball, overdrive • Eight upgrade tracks — guns, ball, hull, shield, luck, magnet, cannon, auto-fire • Ten ship hulls in the Shipyard, bought with gems you earn by playing • Three mini games: Whack-an-Alien, Gold Rain and Meteor Dash • Seasonal events with their own aliens, gems and double rewards • A medal for every galaxy you finish PLAYS THE WAY YOU EXPECT One thumb, portrait, iPhone and iPad. The placeholder loop is gone. FIXES • Revive no longer appears when a boss escapes. It never brought the boss back, so all it did was cost you gems. • Tapping an upgrade you can't afford now shows how many gems you still need and takes you to the gem packs, instead of doing nothing at all. Weave up a scrolling asteroid field, grab gems, three hits and you're out. • The Shipyard — ten cosmetic hulls to buy with gems and fly. They all handle the same, so pick the one you like looking at. • 61 new alien designs. Every galaxy now has its own invaders instead of the same ones in a different colour. • 12 unique bosses, one for each galaxy. • Rare gold and black jackpot gems, worth hunting for. • Coupon codes — redeem one in the Armory for free gems whenever we run a giveaway. • A proper arcade soundtrack. MUCH BETTER ON IPAD Art, text, menus and the game itself are all scaled up and centred, instead of a phone layout stretched across a tablet. BOSS FIGHTS REBUILT Boss volleys can be blocked and their plasma shot down. Early bosses are calmer, later ones ramp up properly, and the galaxy 4 boss is actually winnable now. FIXES AND POLISH • Ordinary aliens no longer aim their plasma straight at your ship. • Divers crash into the shield dome rather than into you. • The kill that clears a wave always drops a gem. • Multiball now splits at your live ball instead of the corner. • Whack-an-Alien has been redrawn on a real moon surface — and whacking a bomb costs a life. • Separate music and sound switches, plus a New Game reset that keeps everything you paid for. • Purchases and upgrades now celebrate properly.
