### 4/5 — Correct the program crash at the start

*2024-11-03, version 1.1.7*

iOS 18.1 does not start the program. Correct

### 5/5 — Sehr guter Synth

*2023-03-29, version 1.1.0*

### 5/5 — Sounds Amazing

*2023-01-21, version 1.1.0*

Absolutely packed with amazing modulation options, I especially love the randomiser and shifting. The morph function is also great. Perfect synth for everything from weird sequences, to bass, to wobbly bass, to FX, to deep leads. Very good sound quality.

### 5/5 — Good Grief…

*2023-01-17, version 1.1.0*

This is such any amazing sounding synth. Lovely presets are paired with a fantastic preset management system; always a wonderful plus. Really all I can say is buy it: Factory is a powerhouse.

### 5/5 — My forgotten synth - fixing that now.

*2022-09-02, version 1.1.0*

Seen a few reviews where this is also their forgotten synth, and perhaps that’s given the Devs some time to refine it. Dominated by the big central matrix (double-tap to make an instance of something, slide up or down over it to increase or reduce the influence or magnitude of that). I think ‘modular’ is enjoying a resurgence, in the virtual synth music world? Don’t have to clutter hardware all over the place nor burn the planet, makes sense.

I cannot vouch for how ‘modular’ it is, but one notable point is that when operating the mod wheel, some patches have shedloads of nodes in that big matrix, swelling and shrinking in real-time. This I take it means multiple different oscillator functions etc can be hooked up to the mod wheel, and the resulting change, much more rich and varied. So, it rightly gets 5 stars from many, including me. And, Sugar Bytes are a well-respected and veteran developer, it so happens I have multiple of their offerings and they do take issues seriously.

A sound factory indeed, it’s up there with the best I think.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2022-08-30, version 1.1.0*

Another great sounding and inspirational synth from Sugar Bytes

### 4/5 — Awesome Synth App - Wish the Interface was Hi Rez

*2022-08-05, version 1.1.0*

Very well done app. Features and sounds are fantastic. I have had the pro version for a couple years now and very satisfied. Only thing really holding it back in my opinion is the resolution of the interface doesn’t hold up on the iPad display. Interface design is great but graphics look pixelated. Might be a nitpick, but there is a reason why these screens are High Resolution. Please update =). Thanks!

### 4/5 — Fantastic App!

*2022-07-06, version 1.1.0*

This is my favourite iOS synth app.
I love it in every way except for one thing.
PLEASE FIX the problem that causes notes to stick sometimes.
It’s a sad thing that it does this because otherwise I could use it for recording and live with confidence.
Please do this for us.

### 4/5 — Not scaled for iPad mini 6

*2022-06-07, version 1.1.0*

Other than that, app has great potential.

### 4/5 — Darstellung leider nicht für ipad mini 6 optimiert

*2022-03-07, version 1.1.0*

### 5/5 — Killer synth

*2022-02-16, version 1.1.0*

Awesome.

### 5/5 — More Sugarbytes Awesomeness

*2021-12-18, version 1.0.12*

Sugarbytes apps always go deep into sound exploration and Factory continues to deliver with some amazing deep level control, including the intuitive morphing features. Fast and precise with an incredible array of sounds. I own every IOS Sugarbytes app and eagerly await new developments. Keep up the awesome work.

### 5/5 — Very good

*2021-10-19, version 1.0.12*

It’s awesome 👍

### 4/5 — How ?

*2021-08-24, version 1.0.12*

Am I supposed to record what I am creating into my Garage band .

It’s a lovely app and synths are well juicy… can’t you the developer make accessible within the GarageBand app .

Please help.

### 5/5 — Turns out this is quite easy to use...

*2021-08-02, version 1.0.12*

After two or three years, or however long it's been out anyway, I realised I'd never really had a look at this as it seemed a bit intimidating to someone still on a steep learning curve, so I only wound my way through the presets and fell short of delving in. Kicking myself now because it's loads easier than I thought (admittedly the learning curve is a lot gentler these days). I've always loved the way you could make it sound like quite a few other synths on the Appstore and then instantly nothing at all like any other synth on the Appstore just by connecting your modwheel to the dice or tweak dial thing, but it's loads more satisfying knowing what's actually going on and how it's all connected when you do. Working through the options on this thing are going to keep me occupied for days... so there is an upside to spraining my ankle yesterday I suppose.

### 5/5 — Dumbstruck

*2021-07-14, version 1.0.12*

I am a man of many words. But Factory has just shut my pie hole.

I was dumbstruck in the first hour I spent getting lost in this Ap. The Synthesizer Aps we have today are amazing. Its hard keeping up with the flood of totally great synthesizers now piling up in the iOS world. At last count I have 27 and I love most of them - each for different reasons.

But Factory sits atop them all! Sugar Bytes has achieved something great here: a feature-rich, complex instrument that is uniquely versatile and yet still highly accessible and easy to work with. I found myself jamming live with great ease even with very complex patches and also quickly and interactively creating rapidly evolving musical material ...all within a single patch. This goes way beyond creating push-button presets to select as needed.

You can an actually /PLAY/ this synthesizer. Its a lot like playing with a modular system except the interface is simpler. In fact it's not hard at all.

For the future, I would like to see a better scaled-pads type of on-screen keyboard, such as on AniMoog. You can chose preset scales in Factory, but it leaves the chromatic keyboard on the screen and just nulls out the keys that do not fit in the scale you choose. Sugar Bytes should even consider creating user-defined key-pad tunings so that Factory can get deeper into more abstract musical territory.

### 5/5 — Sounds great, but now it doesn’t do inter-app with GarageBand

*2021-07-11, version 1.0.12*

Or AuV3…
Disappointed

### 5/5 — Overwhelmed

*2021-06-17, version 1.0.12*

I can’t put it down. Lot’s of presets to get started but after they
Get in the way. With a bit of work it’s design is to understand and generates one can find no where else. Sometimes it’s a stop the madness moment and at other times did I really come up with that moment. Definitely the place to start with sound design if you are serious and maybe the place to end. No, there are others but this is right up there with the best.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn't respond to standard iOS gestures, like swiping up to swap apps.

*2025-08-28, version 1.1.9*

As the title says, I had to swip down to get to notifications, just to open another app. That the app doesn't follow standard iOS UI norms is ridiculous.

### 1/5 — One star

*2024-10-07, version 1.1.7*

Why didn’t we get the autumn sale?

Please, you’re Sugar Bytes!

Not Aiken Maltipedia!

### 1/5 — Horrible graphics

*2020-12-21, version 1.0.11*

Looks like it’s done using ms paint. Bad graphics kills creativity.

### 1/5 — Not worth it.....

*2020-02-29, version 1.0.6*

Simple,
Works as standalone, but you have to pay to use AUv3
Why not work as AUv3 so we can get an idea of how it behaves in our DAW, But have the option to buy the full preset list.

If I could have used this as AUv3, I would have purchased the rest, but no.....

### 1/5 — Deleted after 30 seconds

*2019-05-16*

I would be prepared to revisit this once the UI is sorted out. On iPad Pro it’s all pixelated. The synth seems pretty powerful although the patches are awful.

### 1/5 — No IAA or AU mode without in app purchase!

*2019-05-11, version 1.0.0*

Only functions in standalone mode unless you buy full version.

### 2/5 — Promising, but buggy

*2021-01-14, version 1.0.11*

Routinely gets stuck midi notes, and freezes when headphones are plugged in. A shame, because it otherwise seems promising.

### 2/5 — Cannot load in other DAWs properly

*2020-11-19, version 1.0.11*

This is one of the coolest synths for the price, but it crashes in Cubasis every single time when trying to mix down a track, it will never load the actual sounds you made, this is fun to mess around with but I can’t justify paying almost 20 bucks for something I can’t actually use in a workspace.

### 2/5 — Warum so eine niedrige Auflösung?

*2020-11-18, version 1.0.11*

### 2/5 — Not actually free

*2020-04-01, version 1.0.7*

Thought I’d stumbled across something wonderful, then I tried to use in conjunction with another app. At this point I was prompted to pay £18 for the privilege. Nowhere implied that payment would be required, very misleading marketing.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I also slept on this for too long…

*2025-12-24, version 1.1.9*

I’ve been looking for a synth with a breadth of possible tones, lots of modulations, but also well designed for the iPad screen not just a porting over of a synth. The modulation matrix is a dream and the variety is endless. Grab it while it’s on sale if you can, and if you can’t just grab it anyway….

### 5/5 — Loading presets into Factory

*2025-01-25, version 1.1.8*

How do I download presets bought on Gumroad into the synth ?

### 5/5 — Great great synth app

*2024-12-22, version 1.1.7*

Crashes often lately
Hope somebody can check it out
It loses audio…<-and I have to restart it in stand alone

*2024-12-05, version 1.1.7*

Thanks for your big Woks !
Auv3

### 5/5 — Coolest mini-synthesizer!

*2024-07-11, version 1.1.6*

I used to own a Micro Moog and found it to be one of the best synthesizers out there but the factory is the coolest synthesizer ever I love all the sound effects and presets!

### 5/5 — Such almighty power💥 speakers beware!

*2024-03-09, version 1.1.4*

I never knew how powerful this synth was until I took the plunge and paid the £24.99, at first I thought that was a bit excessive until I realised what it is capable of. The morphing slider recorder is fantastic for operating many parameters at the same time.
Money well spent I say 👍

### 5/5 — Mr Fiddly McDoodle here.

*2023-07-18, version 1.1.1*

It feels dark, desperate, lush and lush. Why did you say it twice? I love Lush.

### 5/5 — Ohne Strippen!

*2023-05-09, version 1.1.1*

### 5/5 — Fantastico

*2023-04-17, version 1.1.0*

Uno dei migliori soft sint mai provati. Veloce, intuitivo, matrice di modulazione MODULABILE! Che dire ogni intervento genera bellezza! Bravi continuate cosi!

### 5/5 — Wow

*2023-04-06*

What an amazing, powerful synth. I love melodic/beautiful sounds, so it is surprising how much this noise machine has fascinated me. Of course, you can produce ‘nice’ tones here, but that’s not Factory’s real strength, rather it practically baits you to creating evolving, morphing soundscapes full of sharp edges and excitement. Recommended.
