### 2/5 — It used to be a great (and free) app

*2021-07-14, version 4.0.0*

I've been using it for a year or two now. Before, the only 'annoying' thing was a reminder that this is a free version, but can't complain about that. In the past three months, the text keeps getting highlighted at random, so the undo button became my writing assistant.
But the dealbreaker for me is changes not saving. Sometimes at least I got a 'can't save' pop up, so I could paste a new version to another writing software. Other times I just lost the progress, and it's nowhere to be found in the backup.

### 1/5 — No Exporting PDF’s

*2020-08-17, version 3.0.637*

This is a waste of time! I can’t imagine a Writer wanting to type only! Even for a classroom scenario, you would want to eventually show your work!

### 1/5 — Don’t even nearly work

*2020-05-28, version 3.0.632*

Text doesn’t show up when you write. Tried everything and just stuck with a blank page unless you edit the sample script. Don’t bother.

### 1/5 — Absolute crap

*2020-01-17, version 3.0.627*

Fadein on my laptop is fantastic.

Fadein for iOS. Garbage. Absolute garbage. Absolute, utter garbage.

### 1/5 — Very frustrating in its current state

*2019-09-10*

Sometimes when I close a script, then open it back up a few hours later, an entire random section my writing will have just disappeared. It can range from two sentences of dialogue, to a twenty sentence action scene, which is very annoying. I also don’t understand why you can’t copy and paste text. If I could write on Google Docs, then paste it to this app in order to format the script, I could live with that, but I can’t. I don’t know if that’s by design, or if it’s a bug. I understand this is the free version, but I really don’t think not getting my work deleted and being able to copy and paste is too much to ask for.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having in an issue with the app. Please feel to contact us via the support page with any questions or concerns. It's probably more effective way of getting in touch.

### 1/5 — Absolutely does not work

*2019-08-08, version 3.0.622*

It just doesn’t work. Files compatibility was fine for me, but I literally couldn’t write anything. Kept bugging out. Don’t waste your time. It’s a shame there’s no perfect screenwriting option for iPad yet, but I guess it’ll happen one day??

### 2/5 — Useful but does not work

*2019-04-23, version 3.0.613*

One time I exported through Dropbox. One time... after any attempt to synchronize with Dropbox=white screen. Just not working. Very sad. I like it, I just cannot export anything to anywhere.

### 1/5 — Extremely hard to navigate

*2019-04-15, version 3.0.613*

Constant autocorrections to real words and a screen that starts to jump to different areas of the script, extremely hard to navigate, sometimes I can’t even write because the screenplay moves around and I can’t simple click an area and start writing

### 1/5 — HERO TO ZERO

*2019-02-28, version 3.0.609*

You know when an app is working so good, it’s perfect. It gets the Job done plus more? Well this was it until somebody tried to update it and change it. Now the app is completely broken. Even the autocorrect. No more drop box support, no iCloud.
I had previously bought the full version of the app 7-8$ so happy with the purchase now I’m left with a basic version of the app with no purchase restoration.
Imagine all my screenplays are trapped into this app, no export options no import options no longer available. It does not make any sense. Reimburse me immediately or fix these brand new issues. I would like to migrate my work. At least fix the exporting options so I can work somewhere else.

### 1/5 — The app won’t sync

*2018-11-10, version 2.0.565*

The free desktop version is great. This looks great too but won’t sync with Dropbox so you can’t open any scripts in it. The app can see the files but can’t open them - even ones created within the same app and saved to Dropbox. The developer says it might sort itself out (in which case I’ll amend this review) but otherwise we have to wait until the new version of the app, which has no release date. I was gonna go all in on the desktop version as well but I guess I will have to look at other options.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2018-08-20, version 2.0.565*

Tried this with a view to buying the full version and the Mac version. But the Dropbox syncs doesn’t work. It tells me it is linked to my Dropbox account but when I write something in the app and try to sync it, the app just says ‘Looking for files’ and that’s it. Never syncs.
I’m scrapping any thoughts of buying the paid-for versions.

### 3/5 — Pointless

*2018-08-17, version 2.0.565*

Anything to do with Dropbox doesn’t work, which is one of the reasons I got this so I’d be able to semi-easily work on scripts on the go. There’s really no point to me having it any more. Only reason I haven’t rated it lower is because at least the rest of it works.

### 1/5 — Craptacular!

*2018-08-16, version 2.0.565*

Why can't they get it to work?

### 2/5 — Not worth the money anymore

*2018-04-23*

The updates to this program in the last year or two have totally kneecapped its functionality as a screenwriting tool for IPad/Tablet users.

Can no longer freely work within the body of a script, instead, it forces the user to work in each element separately. Each in their own little bubble. And you can forget about copy/pasting large blocks of text from Notes or Word. Impossible.

Ugh. Save your money for the costlier competitor or stick with the free version of this or the other middling free Screenwriting program.

**Developer response:** Please try the newly updated (and redesigned) version of the app. Also, please enable inline editing in app settings.

### 2/5 — Dropbox integration is broken

*2018-04-22, version 2.0.565*

After authorization, Dropbox doesn’t load

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — DO NOT USE

*2025-03-29*

You will lose hours of your work as this app doesn’t save properly. You’re better off using the notes section on your phone.

Very disappointing as the desktop version is a nice alternative to final draft. However this experience has me questioning using any of their products now.

### 1/5 — Very poor quality

*2025-01-28, version 4.0.12*

App simply doesn’t work and crashes a lot. The desktop version is top notch, this version is dreadful in comparison. Interesting that it hasn’t been updated in 2 years, guess it’s abandonware.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2024-09-07*

Downloaded and started typing, but the app wouldn’t respond. Tried scene heading, dialogue…etc…nothing. Tried downloading the app again, but still wouldn't respond. Avoid at all costs. Even though it cost nothing.

### 1/5 — Pain to work with

*2024-01-08, version 4.0.12*

Unreliable auto-save with no manual option. Had to re-write multiple entire scenes. Also no convenient export options.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2023-08-13*

I'm on Iphone 14 plus. I tried to type, it doesn't do anything. If you try to change the settings it freezes the app. The only time it works is if I edit the template screenplay. Even then, the shortcuts like Scene heading, Dialogue etc don't work and/or automatically change like it does on a desktop. I can't understand how this app even passed qc (assuming there's even a qc) before putting on the platform?

### 1/5 — Won’t import its own desktop file

*2023-06-30, version 4.0.12*

Useless! When trying to import my saved file from the desktop app I just get ‘unable to import’. Surely this is the most basic function.

### 1/5 — Deletes work

*2021-11-29*

I really enjoy the desktop version and was excited using the mobile version for on the go. However, after using it for some days the app will crash and delete majority of my work. Then there’s the interface that starts to warp itself when you have a long script. In addition to using it with a wireless mechanical keyboard, it doesn’t allow you to use some shortcuts like deleting all whole word. Really wish they would update the app and make it more easier to toggle through the action, scene, transition, etc instead of having to press it with your fingers.

### 1/5 — Almost unusable.

*2021-06-26, version 4.0.0*

I don’t understand why you would release an app that is almost entirely unusable. I have heard good things about Fade-in desktop. I usually use Highland 2 but there is no iPadOS app for that so decided to try this. On first glance it looked promising… until you actually start to type something.

I have a pretty recent iPad Pro and no other apps behave like this. When you type, the lag is so great that I sometimes type an entire sentence and then wait before it catches up to display is slowly on the screen. Then when I am not even touching it the screen display jumps randomly to different parts of the document.

Baffled.

### 1/5 — Complete Contrast to Desktop App

*2020-12-17*

The desktop version of Fade In has changed my life! I am so grateful to have the app that I literally work with on a daily basis and helps me survive as an artist. So thank you for that (praise). I think the mobile version of FadeIn needs to be completely revamped. I hope this review motivates the FadeIn crew and does not demoralize them. I truly am rooting for you guys! Looking forward to giving you 5 stars and even more praise in the future. May the force be with you all!

**Developer response:** We're sorry to hear you've encountered a problem with the app. Please contact us at www.fadeinpro.com/contact so that you can provide us with some additional information to look into this for you.

### 1/5 — Update?

*2020-11-29, version 3.0.637*

Is there a new update coming soon? Cuz I think the app needs a new bug fixing or something since it keeps crashing and sending me back to the app menu on my phone.

I’m not sure if it’ll still continuing doing that, but I’ll try again tomorrow to see.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed

*2025-08-15*

My laptop was out of juice, I needed access to my latest draft ASAP, I downloaded this and it effortlessly connected to my Dropbox account and I was reviewing my latest draft in under a minute. Perfect.

### 5/5 — Fade In Basic

*2024-08-12, version 4.0.12*

Permet de voir mon scénario sur mon cell. Parfait pour le consulter n'importe où, rapidement.

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2022-04-15*

Great for writing screenplays for theatre and cinema. No complaints!

### 5/5 — I must be lucky then

*2019-08-16, version 3.0.622*

I’ve had no problems with this free screenwriter app. If anything it’s taught me how to write a script in common format. And that’s just from getting the hang of what it has to offer. I can now write a script freehand because I know how it looks and what is expected of me as a writer (if that makes sense) HOWEVER when I first used it, I did go back to my script to find some word have been changed to random symbols for example, She was very happy to be chosen BECAME She was £:.& hap:& to be chosen. But that has not happened since I re downloaded it and I have written much more than the last time I used the app so maybe the newest update was a major fix. Basically so far so good. Worth a go EVEN the tutorial is very useful and funny to read

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2018-10-28, version 2.0.565*

It’s so easy to use, keeps all you scripts saved and it also lets you print it off, I would kick this off with five flipping stars!

### 5/5 — Absolutely amazing.

*2017-01-02, version 2.0.549*

Big thanks to the developers!

### 5/5 — Does what it says

*2016-12-30, version 2.0.549*

I've had no issues. Will buy the upgrade so that I can sync back and forth between my iphone and ipad.

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2016-03-08*

I listend to Chrome Noir on the Blacklist Table Reads podcast and it was amazing. I heard your interview and checked out your app. I'm just starting to try to write things for fun and this is a wonderful tool. Very organized and easy to use.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2015-07-29*

If you want to direct a play, movie, or perhaps a musical, this is the perfect free app. It has everything needed to write a good script. I started it right away and I wrote two whole scripts! If you are looking for something easy and free, this is it. It even says how to use it! Please download. It is amazing.

### 5/5 — Great for my writing!

*2015-06-10, version 2.0.520*

I'm writing a scrip and this allows me to effortlessly add characters, dialog and everything I need that I don't feel like typing in. I've been searching forever for an app like this
