### 3/5 — Refs pdf export

*2025-03-17, version 4.0.12*

Great app but needs pdf export as it really limits the usefulness of the app.

### 3/5 — Slow, freezes, no export

*2024-10-29*

While I enjoy writing in this app because it formats things correctly, when you open it or switch to it from another app, you have to wait about 30-40 seconds before you can type, scroll, anything. There’s also no option to export to pdf (either when saving or printing!). It’s an OK app, but it needs some attention from the developer.

### 3/5 — Crashes

*2024-07-13*

Frequently just crashes and you lose your latest work. Nothing is saved until you exit the app manually. Now I have to save everything few minutes which kills the flow. On iPad 17.5.1.

### 1/5 — Worst App for scripting

*2024-05-08, version 4.0.12*

Sorry folks but i just don’t feel like writing down all the bull in this app. I only have two hours before work so I know I won’t be finished. 🤢🤮😡

### 1/5 — Absolute Garbage

*2024-04-04, version 4.0.12*

Won’t save to Google drive, won’t export from iCloud to anything usable. I’ve been ripped off to the tune of $8 I’d rather fritter away on a Milkshake.

Malware and vapourware kludge masquerading as an actual functional piece of screenwriting software.

I deserve my money back

### 3/5 — Would love more export features

*2024-03-07*

I want to love mobile version, but I can’t export anything outside of Fade In’s file type. I would love a pdf export option.

### 1/5 — The PAID version Doesn’t even PRINT!

*2024-01-28, version 4.0.12*

Paid for the “full version” of this App, and just like the free version, It does nothing but save your screenplay. I saw the garbage reviews of this app, and figured, well at least I can print a hard copy and then scan it to submit to be read by ANYONE, but press the “Print” button and the app crashes! Great work!! Anyone have ANY suggestions as the developer responses a generic and pretty shady…

### 2/5 — Not Up To Standard

*2024-01-25*

I really wish I could like this app because I love the computer software. It does what it’s supposed to do but just barely and not without restrictions. Used the free version and was disappointed so I paid for this version hoping it’d be better but it’s exactly the same as the free one, so I just lost that cash. Improvements to the UI to make this more like the desktop software would be a godsend. Until then I can’t recommend it when there are so many better options.

### 1/5 — It Will Eventually Fail You

*2023-12-19*

I tried to stick with it because I really love the desktop application, but wow is this app terrible. It will crash on you, it will lose your work, it will butcher saves when you try to recover work, the work you try to recover will somehow be incorrect in regard to what you wrote at various dates and times. It will fail. It did fail, and now I have to find another app that I can rely on.

### 1/5 — Don’t buy this mobile app

*2023-11-21, version 4.0.12*

I’m a huge fan of Fade In. This app is an atrocious attempt of a mobile version. Freezes regularly, doesn’t save resulting in huge and regular losses. Poor. Poor. Poor. Zero Stars if I could. Update sorely required

### 1/5 — Infuriating trying to use on IPad Pro with m2 chip

*2023-11-04*

The lag is unbearable when trying to type anything. The work layout is awful and format keys are stupidly placed along the bottom of the screen. My first use with the app it freezes, no scrolling, and then when it did scroll the screen goes blank for about 3 seconds as you freak out wondering what happened. Using this app is not worth the stress and frustration it cause for the user. Thanks for nothing.

### 2/5 — Problems

*2023-11-03, version 4.0.12*

I really wanted this to work. I’ve tried the desktop version and liked it, but in the mobile app, there are too many things that don’t work for me.

It doesn’t auto capitalise the first letter. It doesn’t auto fill the character names. It doesn’t auto fill the scene heading.

But the deal breakers for me are; it freezes for up to 8 seconds far too often and placing the curser where I want it to go is sometimes difficult and takes many tries, especially when trying to place it at the end of a sentence. It’s almost impossible.

Sorry but I can’t use this.

Come on FADE IN, don’t fade out on us. Please fix this. We will get something that works and you can justify charging a little more. I seriously don’t want to default to Final draft.

I use iPhone 7 Plus. IOS 15.8.

### 1/5 — Won’t export to Dropbox or Google

*2023-07-24, version 4.0.12*

What’s the point if it’s stuck on my phone? Troubleshooting right now, but also too buggy to copy from the app into a notepad to save what I’ve written so far before I delete.

### 2/5 — I love FADE IN but the Mobile app is now a hassle vs an asset

*2023-07-03*

I have been using Fade In pro on my computers with no problems. However I have recently switched to the iPad Pro as my main work horse and I have issues with Phantom Caps Lock and problems with scripts opening as well as just navigating the script.

When I first got the app it was fine never had any issues but then I recently had a problem where caps lock randomly staying on after I do a scene heading or type a character name.

The app gets stuck when opening a project i have been working on. I have to close and open the program back up multiple times and just pray every time that it opens. I have been exporting my script every time I exit just so I know I have access to the fade in project else where.

And lastly I have been having an issue just navigating the script and a delay when typing. The delay in typing (Not my keyboard because i don't have delays in any other app on my iPad)

I really do love this app but Its becoming a hassle more than an asset at this point.

### 1/5 — Dubious compatibility with desktop version?

*2023-06-30, version 4.0.12*

Opening my document from the desktop version in the mobile version caused corruption and crashes. Buyer beware and keep backs.

### 2/5 — This app is the worst I’ve ever had to endure yet it’s better than other screenwriting apps

*2023-06-29*

Yo let me tell you something about this horrendous app. Warning my experience with the app “Fade In” is absolutely painful! Whenever I type my script using it lags or receives glitches and in worse cases it DELETES SCRIPTS from the app that I’ve wrote previously. It shocks me how actual screenwriters use this app to write actual films yet the quality isn’t that good, it’s just a mediocre app that has a only a few better qualities! At worst the app is the worst app I’ve ever used. I’m trying to deal with it for now but if this app doesn’t receive any updates I’m giving this a 1 star rating. I don’t care, I won’t hold back!

### 2/5 — Doesn’t integrate with desktop

*2023-03-09, version 4.0.12*

Like others, I tried to use this to save a desktop file (a FadeIn file extension) and continue working on iPad. Unfortunately the mobile app will not open a file that has been started on the desktop app. It cannot read the file. If you’re using this exclusively for mobile then it’s a decent app (2* for that, as a standalone I’d give it 4/5) but the implied (broken) integration with the desktop version while using proprietary Fade In files really makes this app ur-usable for me.

### 4/5 — Fade In Mobile Recommendations

*2023-02-24, version 4.0.12*

This is a great app. I would like to integrate it into my workflow, although, there are a few insufficient features not included into this app compared to the PC version.
 - The inclusion of iPhone/iPad keyboard shortcuts for when a keyboard is connected in order to quickly add elements (e.g. CMD+ENTER for a new scene, CMD+1,2,3,4,5 for elements).
- General performance upgrade - Google drive not connecting fluidly, (No files seem to show when connecting through google drive)
- Lastly, it would be a great feature to actually print off the app and not have to rely on going the computer Fade In software as sometimes I’m out in the field changing something on the script and low and behold, we can’t print it 👎

### 4/5 — Great and Convenient, But Outdated

*2023-02-06*

I use the app on my ipad and phone and I just love it. It’s a great alternative instead of carrying a laptop around, but my only gripe is just the lack of updates. I can’t type in real time. I don’t know if it’s my phone or the app itself, but trying to type on the app is a nightmare.

**Developer response:** Please try the newly updated (and redesigned) version of the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Useless

*2025-07-31*

No wonder this thing is only 5 bucks.
I bought this with fade in pro for windows so i can work on my phone while im out of the house.
Files do NOT sync not to mention typing is lagged.
Should just stick to the windows version on my computer. A waste of money.

### 1/5 — Junk

*2025-07-11, version 4.0.12*

I would write one scene each time i sat down, and recently realized it was only saving half of what i did. Complete garbage and a waste of time. So frustrating

### 1/5 — Useless

*2025-07-03, version 4.0.12*

Can’t open a document started on the desktop version, what’s the fkn point of this app ? .. Hasn’t been updated or corrected in years .. no shame .. lol

### 1/5 — Unusable?

*2025-07-02*

I’ve been using the desktop version for years i’m a huge fan of that version, but this version is nearly completely broken freezing constantly

### 1/5 — This app is so so so so bad

*2025-05-24*

This fade in app probably the worst app I’ve ever endured on iPhone. It’s buggy. The settings you press don’t work. It picks and chooses when it wants to do the operation you have. It’s shameful that I paid for this and my money was taken. Stay away.

### 1/5 — Terrible! Avoid, stick to the desktop version

*2025-03-27, version 4.0.12*

A real shame, I hoped this would be good, the desktop version is great. But it seems to be a trend that screen writing software app are garbage.

This is really laggy, it doesn’t keep up when typing, and need constant reboots to fix this for a few minutes. I wasn’t expecting it to be the same as the desktop version, but I expected it to work. I’d give it no stars if I could.

### 1/5 — Beware - It will not save your work

*2025-03-21*

Basically, if the app ever closes than anything you have written and not saved to the cloud will be lost, regardless of whether you have it set to save on your device or on the cloud. Recoveries are pointless because they only recover the version that doesn’t have any of your saved changes.

### 1/5 — Wont export

*2024-11-24, version 4.0.12*

Wont export to dropbox or icloud or anything like it says it does! Cant export from mobil to desktop fade in either! wont make a odf either! 😡

### 1/5 — Just Don’t

*2024-09-12, version 4.0.12*

I’ve been working with this for 11 days … I’ve lost 6 of those. It doesn’t always save your work - and, for me, the Recovery part has not worked (at all). I escalated my issues to ‘support’ - receiving one question back every 24 hrs - with no suggestion so far on how to resolve (after 4 days). If you value your work or your productivity - avoid

### 1/5 — Not intuitive

*2024-07-29*

I love fade in on my Mac. But this iOS version is very disappointing. I’m stuck in a hospital & thought, I can keep working, because my script are on iCloud. But none of them will load. It claims I’m trying to import them, but no, these are native FI files that work just fine on the desktop. So I figure, ok, let’s try and create one from scratch, and not even that works. It lets me create the file, but nothing I typed shows up on the page. I tried playing with page color, in case there was a font color problem, but still a blank page. Then I go looking for a way to control the font color, and maybe it’s me, but I just can’t find it. I’ve never experienced this before, loading a writing app that literally refuses to write. Like I said, maybe I am missing something, but it really shouldn’t be this hard.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Clean and Consistent

*2024-08-14*

For almost 8 years I have used FadeIn for Mac and for Windows both - and I think both work almost perfectly. Same for this iPad version. It works like I would expect it to work - and I am confused by some of the reviews giving this less than three stars.

All the basic functionality of the PC/Mac FadeIn is here. I use it to edit my iCloud synched scripts…then I can switch over to Mac when I want. And, if you use a Windows PC you can extend over to that as well and continue synching with iCloud for Windows.

Could it have *more* features, bells, and whistles? I guess. I am not sure what is missing that I would consider a core/needed feature. Were there bugs? I guess there were at the start, and as all these cloud options for docs came online I am sure there were real headaches.

### 5/5 — Excellent Writing Companion

*2019-10-01, version 3.0.624*

It does everything a professional writer needs. It works perfectly with the excellent desktop version. The only thing missing an AI feature that writes your script for you 😁

### 5/5 — New update brings iCloud

*2019-03-11, version 3.0.611*

Really loving the new update, having iCloud is great

### 5/5 — Buy

*2019-02-26, version 3.0.609*

I wrote a review prior that was not accurate. I continued to use the app and now see how easy it is to write. I apologize to the developers and encourage everyone to purchase

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2017-11-26, version 2.0.565*

Really good and worth the money. And probably the best screenplay app out there.

### 5/5 — Works Flawlessly

*2016-12-30, version 2.0.549*

I've had no issues syncing with Dropbox and creating my screenplay. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2015-11-13, version 2.0.533*

This app truly rocks. When the mood strikes me, I whip out this app on my phone & immediately I'm there. Way more relaxing than sitting at my PC. The setup & flow couldn't be any easier.
My only request would be to see a page count. Other than that, what's not to love?

### 5/5 — Thank you

*2015-02-12, version 2.0.508*

To all who read; Kent Tessman developed Fade In. As I am new to screenplay writing, It became apparent that I made the right choice when Kent personally responded to my emails when I had questions. This was very comforting. Thank you for all your hard work Kent, I will be sure to announce your name and Fade In when I receive the oscar for best screenplay:))

### 5/5 — Great app

*2014-03-18, version 1.2.470*

If you have Fade In on your computer this is almost a must own. Perfect to edit scenes on the fly; or to write a complete script. Simple layout and Dropbox integration make switching from home to mobile as easy as pie. I love it.

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2014-02-05, version 1.2.466*

Yes, I would appreciate more of a WYSIWYG editing environment, as well as some of the features from the desktop version, like the ability to rearrange scenes easily and the option to create different types of scripts, but quite frankly, I love this app. For the money, it can't be beat. There are always updates so developer continually works on it, and getting customer service is easy. Own both the desktop and the iPad versions and could only be slightly more satisfied. The only app that comes close is Final Draft Writer and that's 50 bucks. Of you want a good app for screenwriting on your iPad, this is it. The desktop version is slick. Add the features I mentioned above and this will be the only screenwriting tool needed.
