### 5/5 — Code Geass vibes

*2020-10-16, version 1.0.1*

I think it’s pretty appearing that the writer took slot of notes from code geass. People close to the “hero” thought he/she was dead, “Hero” wants to bury the past at all cost. Mech suits, mind control, double life that cannot intertwine no matter what. A few other similarities but I think you get the point. Nonetheless this story is still amazing and I can’t wait for retribution!

### 5/5 — Excellence

*2020-07-25*

I have played many CYOA games, many of them from Choice of / Hosted, and Fallen Hero is the best one by far. The writing is fantastic and leaves you wanting more, the characters are genuinely intriguing, and as someone who has severe superhero burnout I can honestly say that Fallen Hero’s take on a super powered world is refreshing and engaging. An absolutely wonderful game that is 100% worth the money. Excellent replay value to explore different paths and learn new things about the world and the characters.

### 5/5 — Hooked

*2019-05-13*

This game is exquisite- I’ve never really tried an interactive text-based game before, but I felt totally immersed in the story. The story itself is intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for what came next. And I loved the feeling of control over my character- the ability of choose nuanced decisions, that every choice has an impact.
Can’t wait for the next one!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 3/5 — Good but...

*2018-05-29, version 1.0.0*

The idea and the flow of the story is great. However, the description of the character’s emotions drags out to the point that it just repeats the idea, only paraphrased and more dramatic. I noticed it immediately as I started reading and almost made me give up, but I spent money on this so I swallowed it and continued.

I’m somehow glad I did... however, I wish the narration would just get to the point.

### 3/5 — Good writing but unsatisfying motivation

*2018-03-27*

The good: You’re playing a character who is struggling emotionally. I would say that she had a mild personality disorder (inability to trust other people) which was exacerbated by PTSD. Your choices and the writing manage to force you to stay within the constraints of your mental illness, while still allowing you some leeway about how to react in particular situations. Because of the skillful writing, you can feel some of her emotions, like you would in a good novel. More generally, the author really does know how to write well. Setting the scene and dialogue/banter are novel-quality, which is not the case in many CoG/Hosted Games.

The bad: A lot of information crucial to your character is revealed piecemeal throughout the story. I think some of it still hasn’t been revealed. This includes her history (events that made her the way she is), her goals, and the practical plans to accomplish them. Since your character would know all of these things, it left me feeling unable to fully absorb myself in her. I could feel her emotions like she was a whole person, but when I tried to think like her, she was a cardboard cutout.

### 4/5 — Addictive

*2019-04-10*

I can’t remember a time I read a story this quickly. It’s such an interesting world they’ve created and the characters are all so interesting. In the beginning it felt a little more like you could steer the story yourself but as things progressed I felt more like the character’s bitterness kind of overwhelmed your ability to choose. So my choices looked out of place with the story. Maybe that’s because of the answers I chose earlier on, I don’t know, but playing a full on villain while not getting the full picture about what happened to make your character want to destroy their former friends/allies broke some of my immersion. If I’m gonna be that vengeful to some seemingly decent folks, I kind of want more of a complete picture. Maybe I’d have learned more about the incident from their past with different choices. Also RO wise, for a player choosing to date guys but not wanting to have a romantic relationship with Ortega, the interactions got a little frustrating. Kind of felt like he was the only real option and he was constantly thrown at you.

Regardless of the things I didn’t love, I really adore Fallen Hero and will replay it. Also excited for the next book!!

### 4/5 — It is good

### 5/5 — Be gay. Do crime.

Lots of real and diverse characters. The queer experiences are written very well.

### 5/5 — Beautiful story

*2023-06-03*

Honestly so good better than 99% of books out there, I first played this 3 years back but I replay it once a year because of how good the story is, much love to the creator ♥️♥️♥️

### 5/5 — Review correction

*2023-03-08*

I made a previous review stating how great the game was then said I couldn’t find the full version, turns out I did but it just felt so short because I was so invested, wish there was even more I am so attached to this game, anyway, how the devs are still working on it.

Good luck dev team, great game!

### 5/5 — The best “Choice Of” Game I’ve played so far

*2023-02-02*

I’ve played a LOT of these games but this one is by far my favourite.
The story is complex and emotionally rich, the characters are easy to understand and become invested in, without being cliched in the slightest.
Cannot wait to play the sequel

### 5/5 — Top Tier

*2022-07-25*

It’s not easy to write compelling dramas in text adventures, this is among the best.
Is just part 1, but has its own climax and dénouement, so that’s just something to set expectations accordingly.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Absolutely astonishing

*2022-07-21, version 1.0.2*

This game really lets you make and shape your character, from remorseful to unhinged murderer. There’s optional romance and inclusive gender identities. I cannot wait for the sequel

### 5/5 — WOW!

*2022-03-06*

You have to play this game. Amongst all the interactive fiction games I have played, this one is hands down the best of them all. Every single choice you pick matters, and the story itself is full of mystery and intrigue that will leave you guessing at every turn. It’s so incredibly well written, with just about a million different ways you can replay it over and over as I have done; and you’ll unlock different parts of the story at every replay. Seriously, get this; you will NOT regret it.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Stellar Writing and Choice System

*2021-04-19*

This was really incredible. The thing I normally hate the most about this kind of story is they normally force you into one route right away, or you fail. That wasn’t how this one felt at all, I felt like I really could choose different things.
The writing was also just. Phenomenal. I’ve always wanted to play a game as this. Regretful villain who’s doing what she feels like she has to but is just falling apart on the inside, and this is the first story I’ve seen that really captures that super well. For me, I hope Ortega is (eventually) able to reach her, that’s the ending that would make the most sense for my character I think. But the writing in general has been so so strong in general, so I’m not too concerned about it. Like at first, I flirted with her as Eden, because I wasn’t thinking, and then I literally got called out for how manipulative that was when I was feeling bad for fighting her and. Ugh. So good. Just absolutely stellar. I also appreciated how the PC is not just a self insert character. Like obviously you push her in different directions, but she has her own underlying personality that you can’t just overwrite. Like no matter how much I’m making the choices that this feels wrong, it’s still the decisions she’s making, and it all just feels so thematic and true and ugh. This is the favorite story I’ve read in a very long time, and I’m a writer myself so I read a lot.
I have never left a review on any app before but I had to come here and just say that that writing was so incredible, I am so impressed and I am so anxiously excited for the next one, whenever it comes out.

### 5/5 — Very nice

*2021-02-28*

Excellent game, waiting for the next title
