## What is Family Lists?

A grocery list your household shares. Gift lists where nobody spoils the surprise. And now, a planner for the big family dinner.

GROCERY
Everyone in your household adds to the same list and ticks things off as they go. Add milk on the couch and it shows up on the phone of whoever's at the store a second later. Note a quantity if it matters, "2 bags," "6 pack," or don't bother. Items you buy often turn into one-tap quick picks, hottest at the top, so a weekly shop takes seconds to write. Add something you've bought before and it comes back with its quantity, store, note and photo already filled in.

Give items a category or a store and sort the list either way, or by who added it. Your household keeps its own list of stores, so one typed once is there for everyone next time. A note on an item shows right on the list. Filter down to one store when you're standing in it. A history keeps track of what got bought, and by whom. Check things off with a tap, a swipe or a double-tap, whichever you like.

Your household is its own group with its own invite, separate from the wider family below. Usually that's just the people under one roof, which comes in handy when grandparents are part of the family for gifts but keep their own groceries.

GIFTS
Each person keeps a wish list the rest of the family can see. When Mom buys something off Jim's list, she marks it bought. Dad and Sally see that it's taken so nobody doubles up. Jim never does. What has or hasn't been bought from your own list stays hidden from you, always.

Marking a gift bought is press and hold, so a stray tap in front of the wrong person gives nothing away. Want more than one of something? Ask for 5 packs of Pokémon cards and each person picks how many they're getting.

You can also keep private gift ideas for someone, notes only you can see. Keep one running wish list, or separate lists for Christmas and birthdays. Tag gifts (Books, Clothes, whatever suits you) and sort any list by tag, A to Z, newest or oldest.

If a family member can't keep a secret, turn on Blabbermouth Mode for them and pick whose lists they can't see purchases on. They can still add and buy gifts; they just can't spoil those surprises. You can even keep it secret from them. Tap any gift photo to see it full size.

LARGE GROUPS
Hosting Christmas dinner for 22? Switch on Large Groups in Settings and you get a third tab for big family meals.

Keep one guest list for the whole extended family, grouped by household, with children and high chairs counted separately. Tag each guest with a clan (your side, your spouse's side) and filter the list down. Tick people in as they say yes. Set up tables with a number of seats and pick who sits where; a table goes red when it's over.

Plan the menu by course and hand dishes out, so you know who's bringing the potatoes and which dish is still nobody's job. The app adds up the plates, forks, chairs and wine glasses you'll need against what you own and where you keep the spares. Borrowing four chairs from Aunt Sue? Note it so they go back.

Each dinner keeps its guests, tables, menu and supplies on their own tabs. A household admin picks who can make changes; everyone else can look without editing anything.

Next year, start from last year's dinner. The guest list, tables and menu come with it, along with the note you left yourself about running out of gravy.

HOW IT WORKS
Sign in with Apple or a secure emailed code, no password to remember. Start a family, then send people an invite link or let them scan a QR code with their phone's camera, app or no app. Do the same for your household. Whoever starts one is its admin. Belong to more than one family if you need to (in-laws, a blended family) and switch between them in Settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.3 — 2026-10-18

Editing is quicker: change anything you've already added and it saves as soon as you close the form. No Save button to remember.

Groceries: notes now show right on the card, and your household keeps its own list of stores. Type a new store once and it's there for everyone next time, and you can remove any store nobody's using. Tapping the list while you type puts the keyboard away.

Big dinners are tidier. Guest list and Supplies sit right under the banner, every section has a simple + button, each guest shows at a glance whether they're bringing a dish, and the forms got a fresh, more colourful look. Notes for next time fold away under the headcount, and "Our stuff" is now simply Supplies.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-10-15

Big dinners are easier to plan. Each dinner now has four tabs (Guests, Tables, Menu and Stuff) instead of one long page, and you can edit the dinner from the pencil at the top.

Household admins can now choose who can make changes to Large Groups. New people start as view only, so they can see every dinner, guest and dish but can't change anything until you let them.

Blabbermouth Mode now shows as a small badge in each person's colour, on their Gifts card and in Settings. An admin can also keep it secret, so the person never knows it's on.

Your own wish list has a round + button that stays on screen, so adding a gift is always one tap away. The add-item form has a fresh, more colourful look, and grocery History shows who crossed each item off in their own colour.

The app opens back on Groceries if you've been away for 15 minutes or more.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-10-14

Blabbermouth Mode now works person by person. When you switch it on for someone, pick exactly whose lists they can't see purchases on; they still see everything else. Their card on the Gifts tab shows it, so everyone knows whose surprises are covered.

Tap a photo on a gift or grocery item to see it full size.

Twice as many colours to choose from, and a household can now have up to 16 people.

When a wish list is sorted by tag, bought gifts move together to the bottom. Gifts you'd like any number of now just show ∞, and a new tag is kept as soon as you tap Save. Plus bigger info buttons and clearer wording in Settings.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-13

New: Large Groups, a planner for the big family dinner. Switch it on in Settings and you get a guest list for the whole extended family, grouped by household and clan, with children and high chairs counted separately. Seat people at tables, plan the menu by course and hand dishes out to guests, and see how many plates, chairs and glasses you'll need against what you own. Next year, start from this year's dinner.

Getting started is clearer. When you join, the app walks you through joining your family and your household, each with its own code, and asks you to pick a colour nobody else in the house is using. Inviting people is easier too: send a link, or show a QR code anyone can scan with their phone's camera.

Gifts are now press and hold to mark bought, so a stray tap never gives a surprise away, and bought gifts show green and sink to the bottom. Give any gift a tag, like Books or Clothes, from your own list of tags, and sort any wish list by tag, A to Z, newest or oldest.

A fresh look throughout: colour banners for each section, Settings tucked behind the menu button at the top, and menus that open and close smoothly. And when the last thing goes in the grocery cart, the app lets you know.
