FamilyJar is an envelope budgeting app built for couples and families who manage money as a team. Instead of guessing where the money went, you decide up front how much each part of your life gets, then spend from those envelopes until they run out.

Not every expense is everyone's business. FamilyJar keeps two kinds of categories side by side:
• Shared categories — groceries, rent, the car — visible to everyone in the family.
• Personal categories — your own coffee, hobbies or gifts — visible only to you.
Your partner sees the household picture without seeing what you bought them for their birthday.

THREE KINDS OF BUDGET, BECAUSE BILLS ARE NOT ALL MONTHLY
Most budgeting apps assume every envelope resets on the first of the month. Real life is not like that, so FamilyJar gives you three:
• Monthly — a fresh allowance every month. Groceries, eating out, fuel.
• Yearly — enter the whole year's figure once, for insurance or a subscription, and the app works out what to set aside each month and shows what has accrued so far.
• Rolling — never resets. Put aside a set amount each month and let it build for years, for the big holiday or the new car.

Set a target and a date if you have one — or don't. A pot can simply be savings, with nothing to reach and no deadline. Track contributions, see progress at a glance, and when your figures drift from the real account balance, type in what the account actually holds and FamilyJar records the difference for you.
