I give my girls an allowance which they can save. They get allowance accordingly for the chores that they do. I also offer them interest on the money they save which gives them incentive to save. It has actually taught them how to budget, which all kids should know how to do. I also can take money back if they do something that they should not have done or fails to do. In addition to all the excellent features, I’m constantly impressed by the customer service. They respond almost immediately to questions and issues (even on holiday weekends!) and are always ready to help. ### 5/5 — Yes!!! *2021-10-27, version 3.1* This app has become a big part of our family. We have relied on it for years now. It teaches the girls not only about the responsibility of doing their chores, but also about the responsibility of listing them once they’ve done them. Because if they don’t add them in FamZoo then they don’t get paid. This is something we are still working on, but it is an excellent life lesson. I love the customer service. Any time something comes up someone contacts me immediately. The platform uses Facebook as a means to get answers, but I don’t do social media. So I always have questions, and I am always responded to within minutes, hardly ever hours - literally. I pay them but when they don’t do it right I can deduct pay as well. Or when money is borrowed in either direction it can be transferred easily. If my kids get paid for a special chore or project, giving them the money is a snap. The toolbox is deep, with automatic savings, charity, loans, interest, etc. We also love that our kids take responsibility for paying for certain recurring expenses (ie iTunes subscriptions) which forces them to ensure they have funds, to save, and make choices in their spending. I especially like that my kids could send money requests and I could just tap to approve them: this is a great feature in case of an emergency. The same cost no matter the plan. In my opinion, the iou plan should be free, allowing users to get comfortable with the app before deciding to commit financially. ### 1/5 — Money *2021-09-18, version 3.1* It’s ok but the problem is that it sign you out from time to time and won’t let you login again. It won’t even let you reset your password because it tells you your email is incorrect. It looks good on paper but the UI is not intuitive. I consider myself pretty user savvy and was left scratching my head trying to figure out how to even load money. The app is not a “true” app if all it does it being you to their website when you try to access 90% of their “options”. Very upset I paid for this - if they did a serious overhaul of the app I may come back. Until then I’ll remain on the hunt for an app that’s more user friendly. ### 2/5 — The app is slow *2021-09-14, version 3.1* When I use money it doesn’t say I used it then later I check I it says you still have it so I buy something else “your card declined” and then later it says that I tried to buy something for like three times mor so when I activate my card it takes all my money😡😡 ### 2/5 — Not as pictured *2018-12-05* The idea behind the app is good. I have no problem paying money for the services that this app said I would receive. The ability to manage my kids money and teach them financial skills was exactly what I was looking for. However, the app is so complex. I downloaded the app doesn’t show that I have cards activated. It just shows the set up. The pictures show a very simple user face, but the actual app takes me directly to the website. Instead of an app like pictured it’s the mobile website. Everything is tiny it’s super hard to navigate. It’s just totally inconvenient. It’s enough for me to cancel the cards. The only thing that would make me keep it is the fact that you can set up direct deposit to these cards and I already paid over $100 for them. It was a toss up for me between this and another app, I came to this one because it was the better of the 2 in features but the difficulty in usability is enough for me to eat the money i lost and never open the app again. **Developer response:** If the app is showing you the full, complicated web site, then it's been switched to the "Desktop UI". You can get back to the simple mobile screens by swiping to the bottom of the page and tapping on the "MOBILE UI" link in the lower left. It’s almost like you’re just viewing the webpage instead of an app. Hopefully it will be improved and modernized. ### 4/5 — Loved for a long time, but it’s starting to fall behind others *2024-06-19, version 3.1* We are trying another program because it was a free perk with a different account. Although I have loved FamZoo for years, I’m starting to feel it’s lacking. The other program makes it much easier to fund my account using my Deb card, so the funds are available to send to my child immediately if needed. My son is starting to drive and if he ever needs emergency money, that would be a great feature. The other program includes financial lessons for the kids. It allows easy transfers between friends and family members not in the family account. It automatically has spending and savings accounts without a hassle of additional cards that won’t be used. And so on. FamZoo served my family well and I’m not sure we will be completely leaving because I have a 2 year old we stash cash for in here and the other place she can’t have an account until 6, but I now realize how many features I wish FamZoo would implement. ### 4/5 — Great so far!! *2019-12-29* I haven’t been using this for long, but this far it has been great! I set up cards for myself as the primary funder with cards for gas, groceries, (birthday and Christmas) gifts, and spending money. My fiancé has a card that we are using for his “allowance” to track & control his spending; and my daughter has a card that I load her allowance onto for chores. I’m still working on figuring out the ins and outs of the IOU accounts, but I think those will be beneficial too, especially when my daughter wants to buy something or save up for something. So far we’ve used it primarily to gauge our spending each month - I load a certain amount each week onto each card, and we can tell at the end of the week how much we’ve spent in each category and how much we have left over. It’s really been helpful to see what we are spending and where, and adjust our budgets accordingly. It’s also helped us get more motivated to save and pay off debt because the money that is left over from each category gets put towards our emergency fund and our debt. It’s a great way for parents to teach fiscal responsibility, and the cards and app make things very convenient and easy for both parents and kids. And the customer service is great. We named each one for a different budget item. Groceries, Home Maintenance, Gas, Dinning Out, Pets etc. Then each payday, we add money from our bank account (via Apple Pay) and put the amount on each card we need. We switched to this budget plan instead of using cash envelopes in 2020. It works extremely well for us. Customer service is wonderful! If you have an issue, you can email them and I always heard back within the same day. The app provides real-time money transfer from the parent card to the child card with full reporting on all the activity. We use for gas money plus allowance and review the activity with the kids. We recently saw the power of FamZoo when a teenager saw how much money was going to a certain coffee shop. Seeing this, the teenager now makes coffee at home before leaving for school. We had been super slack about paying our kids allowance, and definitely were not doing a great job with teaching about savings and charitable giving. This app changed that. At first, I got frustrated with the complicated setup and figuring out how to load money. However, I got it figured out (with some awesome customer service directly from the owner). Now it is a breeze. Literally, five minutes a month tops. The kids think it is awesome to have their own cards (and feel super cool buying stuff on their own). Love it!
