## What is Fanficly?

Fanficly is a calm, private, and unofficial home for the Archive of Our Own (AO3) fanfiction you love. Designed from the ground up for a premium reading experience for FREE, it is available across your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook with automatic iCloud synchronization.

READ WITHOUT BORDERS
Fanficly is completely private. You can use the app to browse, search, and read without ever logging in. Your library, reading history, and bookmarks are stored locally on your device and synced securely via iCloud. No tracking, no ads, and no analytical servers.

SEAMLESS IMPORT & DRAG-AND-DROP
Bring your favorite stories with you. Queue and import AO3 links directly from Safari using the system share sheet, or drag and drop EPUB files directly into the app. Export your library or individual works back to EPUB, PDF, or HTML anytime.

A READER CUSTOMIZED FOR EVERY DEVICE
Enjoy a reading layout tailored to your environment. Adjust fonts, font size, line spacing, paragraph spacing, character spacing, bold text, and margins. Fanficly remembers your settings per device type using per-device presets, so your iPhone automatically opens your compact phone layout, while your MacBook instantly uses your wide desktop preset. Read in continuous scroll, swipe by chapter, or horizontal page-by-page. Your place is saved down to the exact paragraph — and the Home Screen widget shows your last-read story with its progress, so you can jump straight back in on any device.

LISTEN ON THE GO
Tap the headphones icon to have any chapter read aloud. Fanficly uses your device's high-quality local text-to-speech engine, allowing you to listen in the background, from the lock screen, or using your own cloned Personal Voice. Zero data usage, 100% free.

YOUR LIBRARY, YOUR WAY
Create custom folders, pin important stories, and star your favorites. Follow works to be notified when new chapters drop without needing an account. Save your favorite search queries and tags, and sort your library with custom category sorting to keep everything perfectly organized. A progress bar on every started story shows exactly how far you've read.

DISCOVER & CONNECT
See what's trending in the Popular tab — the most-loved fandoms, ships, and characters. Follow your favorite authors and be notified when they post something new, no account required. Log in to open your AO3 bookmarks in their own tab, and read or post chapter comments in the app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.0 — 2026-07-10

What's new in 1.7.0

• Show images in stories — a new opt-in reader setting renders authors' embedded artwork inline, in every reading mode. Off by default; the classic text-only reader is unchanged, and downloaded works stay text-only offline.
• Fewer network timeouts — requests to AO3 are spaced out correctly and transient hiccups are retried, so search, browse, and story loading are far more reliable.
• Finishing a story now counts — reading to the last line reaches 100%, earns the Finished badge, and shows up in your Stats. Reading time is no longer over-counted while a story sits open beneath other screens.
• Safer iCloud sync — backups from different devices now merge instead of overwriting each other, restoring can no longer discard downloaded chapters, and reading-time totals stay consistent across devices.
• Deleted reader profiles stay deleted — removing a typography profile no longer resurrects it through iCloud sync.
• Widget fix — tapping the last-read widget can no longer rewind your saved reading position to an older spot.
• Subscriptions & follows — all your AO3 subscriptions sync (not just the first page), a signed-out session can no longer clear them, author follows are checked reliably in background refresh, and notification permission is requested the moment you first follow a work or author.
• Popular tab — ships and characters are now ranked from live AO3 data again.
• Search fixes — typed tags no longer autocorrect to more popular lookalike tags, a crash on some international characters is fixed, and a temporary network error no longer sticks to a tag until relaunch.
• Page-by-page fix — paragraphs can no longer get cut off with "…" when reading page-by-page with the controls hidden (most visible on Mac).

Everything still runs on your device — no ads, no tracking, no account required.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-06-25

What's new in 1.5.1

• Fresh new look — a brand-new app icon and a refreshed indigo theme throughout the app.
• Popular tab: discover what's trending — the most-loved fandoms, ships, and characters — and open their top works in a tap.
• Authors tab: follow your favorite authors (no account needed) and get a notification whenever they publish something new.
• Bookmarks tab: log in to browse your own AO3 bookmarks right inside the app, and save any of them to your library with one tap.
• Chapter comments: read threaded comments on any chapter, and post your own reply when you're logged in.
• Reading progress in your Library: every started story now shows a progress bar, percentage, and current chapter — finished reads are marked, too.
• One-tap bookmarking: save a story straight from any search, browse, or author results row.
• Listen your way: jump straight to any chapter from the narration bar while a story is read aloud.
• Reader & polish: distraction-free reading with text selection turned off, a clearer chapter badge for works in progress, tidier kudos counts in lists, plus fixes to widget resume and page layout.

No ads, no tracking, and no account required.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-06-15

• Custom Folders & Multi-Folder Association: Organize your library with greater flexibility. You can now associate a single work with multiple custom folders and manage them easily using the new Edit Mode.
• Screen Awake & Reader Improvements: Stop the display from dimming or locking while reading with the new "Keep screen awake" toggle in Reader Settings. Also resolved unstable page count issues in page-by-page reader mode.
• Extended Search Capabilities: Keep the library search bar persistently visible at the top. Search specifically within custom folders, search by author name alone, or combine author and title fields directly in the search bar.
• Mac Catalyst Clipboard Import: Paste an AO3 URL anywhere on macOS (global ⌘V) to instantly import and open it.
• Utility Widgets Suite: Five new beautiful widgets for your home screen:
  - Reading Streak: Track daily reading streaks with a visual weekly activity calendar.
  - Subscriptions: View live update alerts for followed or subscribed works.
  - Folder Shortcuts: Jump directly to your custom library folders.
  - Saved Searches: Quick launch buttons for your favorite search queries and tags.
  - Recommendations: Spotlights a random starred or unread work from your library.
• General Enhancements: Swapped reader toolbar icons for better usability, removed the redundant Following filter, and refined overall widget layouts and spacing.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-06-10

• Compact Widget Redesign: The last-read home widget now features tighter, space-efficient padding, a vibrant red gradient background, and a custom open-book app icon.
• Library Metadata Search: Find stories instantly with the new search bar pinned to the top of your Library. Search by title, author, fandom, character, tags, or custom folder names.
• Simplified Library Filters: Streamlined the Library view by removing the redundant "Following" filter, keeping focus on your saved works.
• Reader Toolbar Upgrades: We swapped reader buttons in browse and search modes—putting the "Save to Library" bookmark icon front and center in the toolbar, and moving "Share & export" into the "..." Options menu.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-06-10

• Home Screen widget: See your last-read story and its progress at a glance — tap to jump straight back to your paragraph. Progress syncs across your devices via iCloud.
• Native Mac app: Fanficly now runs on macOS (Mac Catalyst), with arrow-key page turns and ⌘ +/− interface zoom.
• Reader profiles: Save your typography settings as named presets and switch between them instantly — remembered per device (phone, tablet, Mac) and synced via iCloud.
• Character spacing & bold text: New letter-spacing and bold controls in the reader, from the Aa menu or Reader settings, applied across all three reading modes (continuous, swipe-by-chapter, and page-by-page) and synced across your devices via iCloud.
• Custom folders: Group saved works into your own folders to organize your Library, kept in sync via iCloud.
• Fresh look: New app icon and in-app branding in AO3 maroon.
• Faster & smoother: Quicker work-description loading, snappier page-by-page mode in long stories, and the reader now pre-warms when you open a story so it opens without a hitch.
• Stability & polish: Fixed a rare hang while saving your login session, corrected the keyboard focus outline, centered the sidebar title, fixed a list row separator alignment glitch, and condensed the story toolbar into a single options menu so the chapter and text controls are always visible.
