The food, in a similar package with other delivery packages in that hall according to the photo sent to me by the deliverer, was obviously stolen by the deliverer himself, who is the only person that knows it contain food. Fantuan refused to refund the money. This was very disappointing and annoying. SCAM !!! ### 1/5 — Horrible experience The order takes forever to get to my place *2025-08-13* Since I placed my order at 5 PM, the delivery person has been wandering around at a location two miles away until 6 PM. After contacting customer service, they replied that they would follow up with the delivery person. Nearly 20 minutes later, the delivery person was still in the same spot. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and asked if I could cancel the order (at this point, over an hour and a half had passed, and the restaurant was only about a mile away from my home). Customer service responded with, “We’ll give you a $5 discount coupon, please continue waiting.” Excuse me??? Do I need your $5 rn? What I need is to eat my dinner as soon as possible, not a $5 discount coupon I can’t eat. Until I reminded them again that over an hour had passed, and please change the delivery person (cause customer service doesn’t want to cancel the order), finally they find a new delivery person and it only takes less than 20 minutes to pick up my order and delivered to my place. Really disappointed experience. ### 1/5 — Purposefully Deceptive and Buggy Experience *2025-07-27, version 6.60.0* I came across Fantuan via the Order tab of a restaurant on Google Maps. I’d never used it before but wanted to support what seemed like a Chinese-run business. At first, the experience seemed promising—Chinese language support, visible discounts, and a $10 coupon shown in the checkout line items. There was also a “1-month free VIP trial” checkbox, selected by default, claiming to save me $11—though it wasn’t clear how that was applied. Then I noticed the $10 coupon wasn’t actually applied, despite being listed in the line items. A tiny “not applied” badge required manually tapping through another screen to confirm the coupon. This felt intentionally misleading. Next came payment issues. I used iPhone’s credit card autofill (which I use regularly), but every card I tried failed with an error. Worse, there was no way to exit the “Add Card” screen, so I had to refresh the page. After doing so, the app told me I had already placed an order—even though I couldn’t add any cards. I had to check all my credit card accounts manually to confirm no charge. The only remaining payment option was WeChat Pay. I reluctantly used it, and while the payment succeeded, Fantuan (in Google Maps) lost all order context after jumping back from the WeChat app. I had to download the Fantuan app and log in just to confirm my order was received. Later, I realized I had been charged $10 for the “VIP” membership—despite it being presented as a free trial. Customer service explained that because I used WeChat Pay, which doesn’t support auto-renew, the free trial converted into an immediate paid membership. This was supposedly shown on the checkout screen, but I was deep-linked into WeChat and never clearly saw that change. Their stance was: “You should’ve read everything.” The only chance I could’ve prevented this is I should’ve converted the RMB amount back to USD to double check in the WeChat app. The entire ordeal took over an hour—longer than just picking up the food myself. The delivery was also about 30 minutes late, though that part wasn’t a big issue for me. In the end, what was supposed to be a fast and convenient experience turned into a frustrating, misleading, and buggy process. Now I’m stuck with a paid VIP membership I’ll never use again.
