## What is Fast Days?

Christians have fasted for two thousand years. Most of us have forgotten when and why. Fast Days helps you rediscover this tradition.

The app calculates every fasting and abstinence day of the year based on the Church calendar — including moveable feasts like Easter, Ember Days, and vigils — so you never have to guess.

THREE TIERS OF PRACTICE
Choose the level that fits your spiritual life:

- Modern: The current discipline (post-1983). Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and Fridays of Lent.
- Traditional: The practice before 1966. All of Lent, Ember Days, vigils, and every Friday.
- Historical Strict: The ancient discipline. Extended fasts, strict Lenten rules, and the full Advent fast.

DAILY GUIDANCE
Each day includes meal guidance explaining what you can eat, a reflection from Scripture or the Saints, and context for why the Church asks us to fast.

BUILT WITH CARE
Fasting is not for everyone, and the app makes that clear. Exemptions for pregnancy, nursing, illness, age, and other conditions are always visible. You can set your exemptions during onboarding and the calendar will adjust accordingly.

WIDGETS
Four home screen widgets keep your fasting schedule at a glance without opening the app.

Ten in-depth articles cover everything from the basics of Catholic fasting to the history of Ember Days and the 1917 Code of Canon Law — written for newcomers and lifelong Catholics alike.
