### 4/5 — My Bachelor Oregon needs updating

*2023-02-14, version 3.24.34*

And the names of the runs need to be updated as they have changed at Mount bachelor ski resort in Oregon.
Also, the summit chair lift is not shown.

### 3/5 — Was expecting more

*2022-12-02, version 3.24.27*

When I import a GPX file, it only saves the track not the individual waypoints. Which is useless to me when I create a file with different way points and tracks it should all save in the app.

### 3/5 — Continuously has to renew purchase

*2022-07-26, version 3.24.20*

The app is phenomenal, but every single time I open it I have to renew my purchase. It has become extremely frustrating, multiple times mid-download of an offline map the download has cancelled because the app wants me to hit a button to renew my purchase…

**Developer response:** Hey there,
Thanks for your feedback. Please reach out to support@fatmap.com and we would be very happy to help you solve the issues you mentioned.
In the meantime, please always ensure you have the latest version downloaded. We look forward to hearing from you directly! Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 3/5 — A step in the right direction

*2022-03-27, version 3.24.8*

Overall I find it useful for backcountry skiing, but it’s missing a couple features that will prevent me from renewing.
1. You can only import a gpx route from a computer, and not directly into the app from you iPhone.
2 Downloading offline maps is problematic. It’s slow to start( if at all), and takes forever.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review and feedback! We've passed your suggestion for GPX imports across to our team. We've recently updated our offline map downloads and would love to hear your feedback! Feel free to get in touch with our team at support@fatmap.com. Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 4/5 — Very nice app!

*2022-01-11, version 3.22.1*

This definitely has better imagery than google earth app and the in app slope overlay is very nice! Still new to this and Will update review to 5 stars if I can figure out how to get tracks and routes to work.

### 2/5 — No landscape view

*2021-12-10, version 3.21.12*

I absolutely love the desktop version of FATMAP, so this review is specifically for the app and not the product. The lack of the ability to tilt your phone and view the map in landscape mode is absolutely backbreaking. I love mirroring my phone to my TV and looking at map apps that way when planning a tour (I do this a lot with CalTopo), and I can’t do that with this app. I’d probably pay for premium if there was a landscape view.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! We will pass this feature suggestion on to our product team to look further into. Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work offline

*2021-06-11, version 3.19.7*

This app is trash. Software and mapping is great, but takes up nearly a gig of space downloading an offline map and it doesn’t load the topo when you pull it up. FATMAP is better used on a computer and cross referenced with Gaia GPS or another better offline application. Very disappointed. I’ve now tried to use this on two canyoneering trips in southern Utah, a backcountry ski tour in the wasatch and a 3 day raft trip in Idaho. Worthless. I want my $30 back.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your message and sorry that you’re having a problem. We’d love to help resolve this issue directly with you if you can reach out to our customer support team on support@fatmap.com that would be great. Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 2/5 — Loved it but now doesn’t show the ski touring routes it used to

*2021-03-02, version 3.17.1*

Got this app, saw it had a ton of detail on ski touring routes near me (front range Colorado), loved it and got the membership. Now when I go to the area that used to have all those routes and choose ski touring (berthoud pass) it says there aren’t any routes. Don’t know if it’s a bug or what but it’s incredibly annoying compared to how it was.

### 5/5 — Best back country app out there!

*2021-02-03, version 3.14.1*

Hands down the best and easiest app for plaining backcountry routes! Super easy to navigate and excellent customer service! Also pairs seamlessly with other navigation devices including Garmin Inreach! Highly recommend and will alway add this into my planning on any adventure!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the 5* review, it's great to hear how you're using FATMAP for planning backcountry routes! Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 4/5 — Not free any more

*2021-01-02, version 3.13.0*

But still has some decent info

### 5/5 — Accurate Information

*2020-11-08, version 3.8.1*

FATMAP displays beautiful terrain representations accompanied by very accurate route information.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2020-08-16, version 3.3.0*

Best map for adventure I have found

### 5/5 — One of my most useful apps period!

*2020-06-22, version 3.2.1*

This app is my #1 tool for scouting for archery elk hunting in September. The many layers are a huge asset and have changed the way I scout and hunt for elk. Don’t know what I’d do with out FATMAP!

### 4/5 — Great app

*2020-06-15, version 3.2.0*

Solid app, has everything I need to find or plan a new outdoor activity

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Really wanted to try this app

*2023-02-23, version 3.24.35*

I’m an avid Strava user and really wanted to use this app. Unfortunately it would not load properly. During the setup process, as soon as I got to the section in activity preferences, it simply stalled and would not allow me to continue. I tried restarting the app, rebooting my phone…and uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Every time it got stuck at entering preferences. I use a second generation IPHONE SE with the newest IOS. May not be compatible with older models

**Developer response:** Hey there! FATMAP is compatible with iPhone 5 and above.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work anymore.

*2022-10-04, version 3.24.25*

First tried this a while back and it was very promising. Now it won’t load maps and recalling saved backcountry ski trails state “may have been removed from database”.

### 1/5 — Cannot sign in

*2021-08-30, version 3.20.2*

I cannot give this app more than one star because I could never sign-in. I tried several angles, email, apple ID, nothing. Just an endless loop, each time delivering me back to the verification of my email page. And every time I gave my email, it bounced right back to the same request, without ever opening the app.

### 1/5 — Stop blowing up our local stashes.

*2021-01-04, version 3.13.0*

It’s a cool app, but it takes the romance and barriers out of back/side country skiing. The pursuit of powder is meant to be challenging, that’s half the fun of it. The challenges of finding lines and good ski terrain help filter out those that might not have the skill set and awareness to ride these areas. Especially in this day and age where every other bro has a touring setup.

### 1/5 — Horrible business mode that screwed over past users

*2019-11-27, version 2.25.1*

I was so excited when I first found this app and started using it. It was great. There were some features you could use for free:

Downloadable Maps
Limited overlays
Etc.

And there were some features that you could access once you purchased a membership.

Until recently, I used this app regularly for scouting my trips into the back country. Then, in the latest major update this company decided that they would require the membership for most of the previously free features like overlays and downloadable maps.

It’s absolutely disgusting when companies offer some features for free for a long time and then all the sudden decide to make those features paid features.

I was going to buy the membership until they pulled this horrible business decision to screw over it’s past users.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for your message. We’ve listened to your feedback and the price has been lowered and terrain tools will be going back to being free again this week. Feel free to contact us on support@fatmap.com for any more info. Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 1/5 — You WILL be charged $60 if you dont cancel your free trial

*2019-11-21, version 2.25.1*

I didnt realize that they will automatically charge you for the app after your free trial is up. Pretty shady if you ask me......that kind of crap gets an automatic one star in my book.

### 1/5 — New update not working

*2019-03-24, version 2.17.0*

I’ve loved this app / map and have been using all season long-however today’s update isn’t allowing me to look at maps in the US. It keeps saying “we detected a problem in your last session, the map has been moved to a safe location”. Super frustrating as I’m trying to find runs.

### 1/5 — Gorgeous Piece Of Junk

*2018-07-01, version 2.6.2*

Could potentially be great. Not sure where they get their info, but only 4 mountain biking trials within 100km??? Went to a popular area and says “looks like an area our local experts haven’t covered”........ ugh😕 So many basic sensible things missing. Incomplete garbage

### 2/5 — Flash over substance

*2022-11-29, version 3.24.27*

Gave this app (and others) a chance for one year before canceling. It neglects basic functionality in exchange for 3D animations that serve no purpose other than to show you that the programmers figured out how to display a 3D map eye candy, which they impose upon the user at nearly every click so that you lose the display you’re working with. Perhaps useful for recording activities to share 3D maps with your friends or strava… but not really for navigation.

**Developer response:** Hey! Sorry to hear you're not enjoying the user experience. If there are particular navigation features you feel FATMAP is missing, please send them to hello@fatmap.com.

### 2/5 — Would be great if it worked

*2022-05-28, version 3.24.16*

It just simply doesn’t work. Constantly freezes and I just can’t get anything done on here

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent , impressive

*2023-08-28*

These guys have put some work into this app - and it has become outstanding. Exceptional high res downloadable 3d maps. Really cool data on trails. A premium subscription is not cheap but I may be canceling my ONx subscriptions for this one. Recommended.

**Developer response:** Hey Austin! Thanks a lot for the review, we're stoked that you're enjoying our app. happy adventures! team FATMAP

### 5/5 — Quickly becomes indispensable and addictive

*2023-08-27*

The level of detail in 2D and 3D maps is extremely useful to accurately plan routes. The ability to take a map onboard has helped me orient when exploring unknown new routes. The ‘flyover’ overview has become a priceless way to evaluate new routes and to relive (and share) great adventures. The growing volume of crowd-sourced data is helping create a repository of first-hand information on trails that more generic mapping software can’t provide (though you are in direct control of what personal data you share.) The “Guidebook” feature is a convenient way to document the best routes of your choosing, including notes and photographs. Superb already, and getting better.

**Developer response:** Hey Ricardo, Thanks so much for your feedback and comments: We're stoked you're enjoying FATMAP. Have a great day!

### 5/5 — Excellent for hiking

*2023-07-27*

I’ve used this app for over a year for hiking. It has all of the trails as well as cross country ski trails, forest roads, snowmobile trails, etc. The 3D feature is very helpful. I download the maps before I head outdoors. The app works on Airplane mode and I can always see where I am and where my next trail junction is. It’s never steered me wrong or let me down. Love it.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the great review! happy adventures, team FATMAP

### 5/5 — FATMAP love + feature request

*2023-02-23, version 3.24.34*

I’ve been using FATMAP for a year now for all my backcountry tours and backpacking around the world. Creating routes and downloading maps is easy and effective.

One feature request that I have is a modification of the Waypoints feature. It’d be nice if there were several color options for how they appear on the map. For example, I like marking some backcountry snowboarding “runs” with one color, say blue, and then it’d be nice when I mark a fork or a pass or a peak with another color, so they don’t get mixed up.

That’s all I got. Still loving the app and integration with Strava.

**Developer response:** Hey there! Thanks for your suggestion and the great review! cheers, team FATMAP

### 5/5 — Coolest mapping software in history

*2022-10-16, version 3.24.25*

The team at FatMap are obvious legends of the mountains as they have made an incredible piece of software for adventure enthusiasts from a usability perspective. How other popular apps have not gotten on the 3D orientation game perplexes me. Layer in avalanche slope terrain and you have the most powerful and user friendly route planning app I’ve ever seen. I’ve used Gaia, Strava, caltopo, AllTrails, MTBProject, and many others but always come back here.

Only advice for the team is to keep layering in the more advanced features that professional adventure folks are willing to pay for in regards to route planning like real time weather integrations.

**Developer response:** Hey Thanks so much for your review! We're super stoked you're enjoying FATMAP. We are constantly improving the map and will definitely look into adding more professional layers!
Have a great winter
Team FATMAP

### 5/5 — The best app for skiing

*2022-10-06, version 3.24.25*

Much better UI than others and the gradient map is unique

### 5/5 — A useful tool for fun in the alpine!

*2022-04-02, version 3.24.10*

I usually use Gaia or CalTopo, but FATMAP may soon replace those apps as my go to tool for mapping. Its slope angle shading tool is handy for planning backcountry ski trips and approaches / descents in new terrain, and I appreciate how easy it is to share route and route information, with my colleagues and my clients. The 3D view is fun, too!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the awesome review!! It's great to hear how you use FATMAP for planning your trips! Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 5/5 — Fantastic app for adventures

*2022-03-10, version 3.24.1*

One of the best apps around! This app is indispensable for outdoor adventures and objectives. I also use Gaia and CalTopo but always use FATMAP as well. To me, FATMAP is more unique and has some fantastic features. It’s easy to download maps for offline use and the explore membership is well worth it as well. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this app enough!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the awesome review! Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 5/5 — 3D Maps, and offline!!

*2021-10-28, version 3.21.6*

This is the only good app that has offline 3D maps. It’s huge compared with no offline, and usually no 3D maps at all.
The map visualization is very smooth, even when u add tons of waypoints to it. Great great implementation of the 3D map, better than G_Earth. Easy to share with friends!!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the great review! Cheers, Team FATMAP

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2021-04-16, version 3.19.0*

By far the best hiking app - easy to use, nice UI, great 3D maps, well curated trails
