## What is FERA?

FERA is a wildlife atlas you travel rather than scroll. Turn a globe in relief, descend into 32 wild places, and meet each animal with every fact tied to its source.

The country is grass. The mountain is the hiding place. The water is warm here.

THE DESCENT
• Three depths to every route: the world, the place, the animal
• Fly across the globe, descend into a habitat, then approach its animal
• Some encounters arrive through a short, quiet film; others as a held image
• Follow the plates in order, turn the dial, or filter by region and class

THE GLOBE
• One Earth in relief on a black ground: land by height, ocean by depth, ice where the ice is, lit at each place's own hour
• Turn it by hand and it holds where you leave it; lean in with two fingers; touch a bead to travel there, and see the animal standing on its pin
• Coordinates move with the journey and settle at the destination

THE PLATES
• Thirty-two routes at launch, from the Serengeti to Atka Bay, Svalbard to the Pantanal, Jigokudani to the Skeleton Coast
• Every image is an authored illustration made for this atlas, inspired by the real world, and disclosed as such inside the app
• Ambient soundscapes are optional and remain off until you ask for them

THE FIELD NOTES
• Every factual claim is tied to the exact revision of its source
• Height, mass, range, and conservation status are sourced, never estimated
• A scale drawing places each animal beside a 1.75 m adult human

QUIET BY DESIGN
• No account. No ads. No tracking. No server
• The complete atlas ships inside the app and works without a network connection
• Nothing counts you, notifies you, or plays until asked
• Type scales, motion respects Reduce Motion, and every gesture has a button

An atlas used to be a promise that someone went and looked. FERA keeps the modern form of that promise: it shows you a made image, says plainly that it is made, and gives you the source behind every factual claim.

New main features : 
A new Earth : The globe is no longer bronze, the land is colored by its height, the ocean by its depth, and the ice by where the ice really is. Both the object and the flat edition draw the same picture from the same map.

Controls that hold : The world stays where your hand leaves it. A throw travels as far as it was hard and comes to rest. A Recentre pill appears while the world is turned, and a double tap brings it home.

The animal on the pin : Once the globe stops, the selected animal stands on its bead as a silhouette, and the caption names the species after the place.

Filter the plates : Choose a region, a class, or both. The dial and the globe dim what is filtered out; plate numerals never change.

Additional features : 
Turn the plate at the encounter : Swipe, or use the buttons, to move to the neighboring animal without leaving the page.
iPad : A View menu and a Go menu, arrow keys, zoom, a scroll wheel and a pointer hover all reach the globe.
Accessibility : At the largest text sizes the cover's descent button works again; the globe no longer takes the touch.
