## What is FeralScan Pest Mapping?

Pest animals cause significant damage to our environment, the economy and society. This App can be used at any time to record the location of pest animals in your local area, record the problems they are causing, and record control actions you undertake. Your records will be submitted to the FeralScan community pest animal mapping website www.feralscan.org.au, to help develop and maintain an up-to-date picture of pest animals throughout your region. This information can be used to monitor populations, and to better target pests through coordinated pest control programs. Future versions of this app will include additional species, and more advanced mapping and data recording features. Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

## Key features

- Record pest animal locations
- Document pest-related problems
- Log pest control actions
- Contribute to community mapping
- Monitor pest populations
- Target pest control programs

### 2/5 — Not operational

*2026-01-24*

I tried to input info but this app doesn’t recognise latitude or longitude for Australia. Useless.

### 2/5 — Glitchy

*2024-12-20*

App is glitchy, repeat sighting button doesn’t work on iPhone iOS 18.1.1

### 1/5 — New versions less helpful

*2024-06-03*

It used to be easyb to just look at the deer or rabbit sightings around Newcastle as the 'front map' showed all the sightings. That way I could decide where to go to cull rabbits etc. Now the map is blank. To see any further requires that
I log in AGAIN, but the log in details are always rejected! Even though my details are the same as I used to log into the website.
Get your act into gear, I have complained about this for 2 years.

### 2/5 — Terrible app

*2023-11-03*

This app is feral. I do not like it. Can't login, it doesn't even seem to try. Multiple pop-up alerts appear right after each other cancelling the previous pop-up alert. (very bad coding!!)

The screenshots of the app in the help tab/section does NOT even match the actual app.

The big wide buttons with gradient shading reeks of bad design.

Technology version 1.55 - This wording tells me the app developer NewtonGreenTechnologies used a templates system equivalent to wordpress for websites. They must have whipped the app together in a few days and charged for many months of work??

Very disappointed with this app. At least fix the login issue!!

Thank you

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. We apologise if you are experiencing difficulties with the app or website. The current App is being upgraded and will address the problems you have highlighted. If you would like to record observations of pest animal activity in your local area, please contact us via the Website and we would be happy to assist you. Thank you.

### 1/5 — No Point in Using This App

*2023-09-01*

Hard to use. The information given by users will not help with conservation practices. The idea of eradicating animals is abhorrent.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback and sharing your concerns. For people recording problems with introduced pest animals, we often provide advice about how to reduce the problems using non-lethal techniques. For example, better fencing to reduce fox predation of backyard poultry or domestic pets. Regarding conservation practices, a lot of community reports are indeed helping enormously to reduce the damage pest species cause, and all reports from the community are very helpful. Please visit the Website for further information or advice.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-08-23*

This App is amazing.
I like that we can report the pests and help eradicate them. Australian wildlife is more important.

### 5/5 — Great for mapping pests in my area

*2020-09-29*

I see a lot of uneducated/ignorant people review bombing to say that cats aren’t pests. You couldn’t be more wrong. Cats kill 377 MILLION birds per year and 655 MILLION reptiles.
Furthermore, ‘outdoor’ (stray) cats live 2-5 years. Indoor cats live up to 17 years. Educate yourselves and keep your cats inside.

### 1/5 — Absolutely Terrible

*2020-05-25*

First thing that happens is they ask for my location. NO. Now apparently toads. TOADS. Need to be found and killed. They’re everywhere. Same with fish. Foxes, cats, deer, pigs, and more are “pests.” Soon they want to add goats. That shatters my heart even more. Goats are my favorite domestic animal. This app want to kill wildlife and pets. PEOPLE OWN THESE ANIMALS! People would die for them. And to kill them? Some people may not feel the need to go on in life. And guess what else, it’s not hunting season. If someone from Apple is reading this please remove this app from the App Store.

### 1/5 — This app is crap and should just be gone

*2019-08-06*

So this app is for killing animals? Wth? What did animals ever do to you? Dogs? Cats? Those aren’t pests! You even ask for a location and expect me to trust YOU with my email? I don’t trust apps that are getting rid of “pests” my location. Thats like saying to a killer “Oh I live down the street” this app should be gone. Animals are harmless. Deer aren’t PESTS. Mice are the only LOGICAL ones, plus, pests are mostly BUGS. Learn facts before you make an app.

### 4/5 — Update with goats etc

*2018-10-31*

Handy and easy to use.Needs other animals added. I could add goats in our locality pretty much all the time. And the LLS has our locality mapped as goats unknown/absent.
