### 3/5 — Don’t like it

*2025-06-11, version 109.5*

Sorry but don’t like this as much as the older design. There’s not enough detail on the class booking info. Eg: beginner class, intermediate, advanced etc.

### 3/5 — Slow

*2025-05-13, version 108.8*

This app is painfully slow.

### 2/5 — Love the gym but really don’t like their new app

*2025-04-20, version 108.8*

The group class booking system is so weird and annoying now. Why would you try to fix what wasn’t broken? I don’t like the weird text list of booked classes. I want to see them on the timetable like before where it’s easy to see them and tell them apart. Especially now I need glasses and have to squint to read the tiny text that’s all mushed together. I’m younger than many of the members at the gym so I doubt I’m the only one squinting and struggling to read it. You need to make this more user friendly especially as there are a lot of older members. I don’t like using this app now. Had no problem with it before the update which also kicked me out and made me have to get my password reset because I then suddenly couldn’t login using the same login info I had been using for years…

### 2/5 — Issues with login

*2025-02-18, version 108.8*

ALWAYS says my login details are wrong. Instead of clicking the normal login, I have to pretend to sign up each time I use the app. So annoying!

### 3/5 — Wait list

*2025-02-03, version 107.135*

I don’t mind this new version but would love to know what number I am on the waitlist when I get on so I can keep an eye on whether to be at the gym or not. Thank you!

### 1/5 — Horrendous update

*2025-02-01, version 107.135*

The new app is terrible. Glitchy and often unusable. Got rid of key features like being able to set reminders to book classes, and being able to see where you are on the waitlist. Slow, buggy as hell. No apparent improvements since it was released despite widespread discontent here in the reviews and on my gym’s Facebook group.

Honestly at the point of looking at other gyms - I almost exclusively do classes, and if you make it this painful to manage my bookings then I’d rather go elsewhere.

### 1/5 — If it ain't broke don't fix it

*2025-01-30, version 107.135*

The new app which was updated in January is definitely not an improvement. Many issues with it and I would prefer the old version. No email to verify a class booking. Also, no ability to add a workout from a class to the app to record. This was available in the old version. Crazy notifications (1 am) in the morning for a class that is happening in under 48 hours. It makes you think you have a booking that day. Not impressed at all. If I could delete and use the old one I would. I hope you will take this feedback into consideration. Also, not able to give a rating for the trainer like previous app. Also can't see how long the class will be unless you actually click on the class. Please bring back the old one this is terrible!

### 1/5 — Tonya

*2025-01-28, version 107.135*

Why would I want social media at the bottom of my fitness app? In my option social media is a complete waste of time it’s only use is to promote people’s businesses whether they are individuals making money or businesses such as Fernwood .At the bottom of my fitness app I want to be able to quickly access my fitness program

### 1/5 — Not happy

*2025-01-24, version 107.135*

Slow, not friendly

### 1/5 — Love the gym. Hate the app!

*2025-01-21, version 107.135*

TL;DR —> the GYM is amazing. The staff the ownership the trainers and the community is fantastic and has been one of my favourite experiences at the gym. ❤️❤️❤️

However - the app is very disappointing.
The previous version of the app was fantastic and easy to use giving a holistic view of all the classes available at the studio. Now you have to go search for reformer sessions separately and group classes separately.
Really inconvenient in scheduling and arranging workouts for the week.

Secondly, the all bookings page doesn’t tell you the day of the week on which the session is booked. Just the date. Understand this is a minor detail but makes a huge difference to know the day and date to organise the week.

The font and colouring of the new version is incredibly non user friendly. It’s incredibly dark and black which I can understand is stylistic but the font is very hard to read and not user friendly.

Lastly, when swiping back the screen doesn’t go back instead the side tab opens. To go back one must physically click the back button. Not user friendly again.

Disappointed in the update of the app. Minor suggestions but makes a huge difference in the user experience.

### 1/5 — Old App was better somehow

*2025-01-17, version 107.135*

How did you take an outdated clunky app and make it worse? Please put it back the way it was. My favourite features were creating a filter for the timetable to not see the classes I didn’t want to take like Virtual classes, and instructors I don’t like. Why in the timetable split up? Also when you’re looking at Group Fitness, half of the name of the class is cut off so you can’t even see if it’s a virtual class.

### 1/5 — Pretty but woeful functionality

*2025-01-12, version 107.135*

I admit the old Ferny app was looking a bit dated, however, it worked well. The new app, while very smart looking, is a huge step backwards in terms of functionality.
1. Classes are all separated out. Fine for those who only do Group Fitness, or only do Reformer Pilates, etc. But for those of us who take full advantage of what Fernwood has to offer it is a pain in the bum to have to jump in and out of different pages to book our sessions.
2. Reminders about the next day’s sessions come in at 1am! Previous app had them send 24 hours from each class. Great timing and didn’t wake me up in the middle of the night. Please revert to this.
3. New app sends a generic “you have a class in an hour” notification. What class? Please go back to the functionality of the old app which told me which class I’m going to. We’re busy women, juggling lots of things and appreciate some help with do I need my yoga mat or my pilates socks?
4. The app is sending reminders for “class in one hour” for classes which have been cancelled, often days before. I don’t need this unnecessary panic. Please fix immediately!!
I’m looking forward to some updates coming out very soon to see this app be more than just a pretty face.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible app!

*2026-05-05, version 109.93.6*

This app is awful. I keep getting the “try again” message, and booking times loaded are always incorrect. Very frustrating!

### 1/5 — It’s very bad

*2025-08-22, version 109.5*

There’s issues with accessing the app. It’s hard to login it says wrong password and you try again and put the password and it allows u into the app and then logs you out and you can’t log in since it says wrong password again.

### 1/5 — App Not Functional and It Has Lots of Issues

*2025-07-20, version 109.5*

The app doesn’t work when trying to use the booking session and most of the time doesn’t have the correct cut of time set up.
Love the gym but the app is terrible.

### 1/5 — Love the gym, HATE the app

*2025-06-02, version 109.3*

This is not a review of the gym itself, I absolutely love my Fernwood gym! This review is purely about the app which is really poor.

Strangely, my previous review seems to have been deleted which is disappointing, as I was simply pointing out genuine issues that exist. While I acknowledge that there have been some improvements, like finally being able to see the full timetable on one screen, many problems remain.

The user experience is seriously lacking. It doesn’t feel like someone with UX design experience was involved in creating this app. It’s incredibly slow and not due to internet issues. Booking a class takes far too long, with noticeable delays on every screen. Even after pressing “book,” you still have to wait several seconds for the tick to appear confirming your spot.

A frustrating change is the removal of automated calendar integration. This used to work perfectly, and now I have to manually add each class to my calendar, and again wait several seconds for this work. This step feels really clunky.

You can no longer see your position on the waitlist, which was another useful feature in the old app. If I’m first on the list, I’ll likely attend and hope for a spot, but if I’m third or fourth, I’ll make other plans. That small feature made a big difference.

Another feature that’s gone is the ability to set reminders to book classes each week. Now even though the full calendar view shows a “Book” button, it doesn’t allow you to book more than a week in advance. The only way for you to figure this out is to click into every screen to get to the book button for it to then tell you can’t book.

This is a great example of “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” The previous version had issues, but it was far more functional. It feels like little thought has gone into what your end users actually need from a fitness app.

Overall, this app is still far from what Fernwood members deserve. It’s a poor user experience that makes engaging with the gym more difficult, not easier. I really hope Fernwood continues to invest in improving this and takes into account the feedback from its members.

### 1/5 — Behaviour bad

*2025-04-17, version 108.8*

Staff behaviour I don’t like jt . They always sitting the chair . Like gossip.when i call them they coming late.
I am a new member but there behaviour very rude..

### 1/5 — Worst app update in the history of apps

*2025-04-15, version 108.8*

This has to be one of the worst app updates ever to have been considered - it looks like very little UX was considered. It’s clunky, takes way to many clicks to book a class and no health data has been migrated from the previous app. It lags, I feel like we’ve gone into dial up on a smartphone. They’ve eliminated the auto add to calendar once you book a class so it’s another button to push on an app that already lags.
This is an externally frustrating app to use and even makes me consider calling the club to book over the telephone rather than suffer through the app.

### 1/5 — Poor quality app!

*2025-02-26, version 108.8*

UPDATED, I’ve got more to say about the apps latest update.

Not a gym review – I love Fernwood, but the app needs serious work.

The latest app update is frustrating and feels like a step backward. It seems no one with solid UX experience was involved in the redesign. Here’s what I’ve noticed, SO FAR:
1. Timetable:
You can’t view the entire timetable easily, which is a fundamental feature for any gym app. As someone who enjoys all class types, this limitation is extremely inconvenient.
2. Waitlist Problems:
Some classes don’t allow me to join the waitlist, even though the gym confirms there is a waitlist. It no longer tells you where you are on the waiting list.
3. Calendar Integration Issues:
Classes do not automatically or add or remove themselves to/from my calendar despite the settings being correct, this previously worked on the app.
4. Booking Experience:
Booking a class is now cumbersome and time-consuming. Previously, a single click was sufficient, but now I have to click into each class, wait for the process to complete, and deal with delays before seeing the confirmation tick. It takes twice as long to book classes compared to the previous version.
Classes can only be booked a week in advance, however all classes appear as if you’re able to book them, previously it told you when you could book the class from. And yet another feature which has been removed is the ability to set reminders to book classes once they were open for booking.
5. Notification Failures:
Notifications for coming off the waitlist (when I can actually add myself) are inconsistent. On the flip side getting notifications in the middle of the night about upcoming classes. Again this was something that worked perfectly well within the old app.
Without reliable notifications or calendar updates, I have no way of knowing if I’ve been added to a class unless I manually check the app.
6. Overall Clunkiness:
The app feels slow, clunky, and poorly designed. These “little” inconveniences make it a chore to use, which is disappointing for a tool intended to enhance the gym experience. I also find my self needing for “force close”the app frequently because it freezes.

The app designers should consult UX experts to improve functionality and create a seamless user experience. At this point, I dread using the app and am tempted to ask the lovely reception staff to book my classes instead. I’m all for digital enhancement, if it’s done well with user and front of mind.

### 1/5 — App issues

*2025-02-10, version 107.135*

Since the app has been updated the usage is quite bad. I can’t even open my app some days, which means I can’t book or cancel classes. This is super disappointing when you’re paying money for a service and you can’t as intended. My current app just shuts itself down whenever I try to open it. I’ve tried resetting my phone and that doesn’t work, I also can’t update the app or troubleshoot at all. I’ll just have to wait until it is fixed. The app was fine how it was before and worked perfectly. Understanding issues come with change, especially system and app changes. However there is no informations or comms on what to do, when it’s being fixed and what to expect.

### 1/5 — THE OLD APP WAS SO MUCH EASIER AND CLEARER

*2025-02-09, version 107.135*

THE OLD APP WAS SO MUCH EASIER AND CLEARER, EVERYONE I KNOW HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT YOUR NEW APP. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY DID YOU HAVE TO CHANGE IT COMPLETELY. IMPROVEMENTS ARE GOOD BUT NOT WHEN YOU COMPLICATE IT.
PLEASE BRING THE OLD APP BACK AT LEAST 40 OF YOUR MEMBERS THAT I PERSONALLY KNOW HATE IT, SO I WOULD THINK EVERYONE ELSE FEELS EXACT THE SAME!

### 1/5 — New Fernwood app is terrible

*2025-02-05, version 107.135*

Too many glitches eg. If you accidentally book two classes, you can’t cancel.
Unlike the old app, you cannot see what position you are on the waitlist.

*2026-01-29, version 109.5*

I walked into a complete new and very much improved gym last night for the first time in 18 years since I was a last a member of Fernwood gyms in Ferntree Gully. I was immediately seen and Rose was extremely friendly, caring, patient towards m and understanding and supportive of my weight loss, improved health, fitness and strength goals. I felt excited snd also calm as I was been well looked after and I am very happy to have joined the gym yesterday and completed my first workout. The facility manager and hypoxi coach were also fantastic, encouraging and extremely efficient and helped me in fulfilling my needs and goals and also worked hard to get me the best deals possible. The women who I met in the gym were lovely and friendly and I look forward to seeing them again snd making my gym experience that much more enjoyable and rewarding. Thank you all so very much, a pleased and grateful new gym member, Magdeline Avramidis xx

### 5/5 — Useless app

*2025-03-19, version 108.8*

So many glitches. When I first joined, you could view machines and how to use them which I found really useful considering some machines do not have a description. Now it's disappeared which is annoying. I don't use the app now.

### 5/5 — Boutique gym

Fernwood gym in Annandale is a wonderful boutique gym with great facilities and passionate instructors ❤️

### 5/5 — It’s ok
