Will use again 💗

### 5/5 — Wonderful, particularly for San Juan Islands

*2026-02-10, version 5.3*

San Juan Island ferries are often off-schedule and difficult to anticipate. This app helps tremendously in planning and scheduling! Far far superior to the DOT fairy scheduling app

### 5/5 — So good! Very useful

*2025-12-29, version 5.2.12*

This is our go to now for all ferry travel with great improvements over the official app. Very thankful for this resource.

### 5/5 — Super helpful!

*2025-11-17, version 5.2.8*

Ferry Friend is reliable and easy to use for real-time WA state ferry schedules. It’s simple to use and provides all the info in an easy to use format - schedule predictions, dock cameras, real-time boat tracking, ability to add ferry passes, and more. The app team listens to customers wants/needs for improvements and is super helpful if there’s an issue or support need.

### 5/5 — Incredibly useful app!

Easy to navigate and read

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2025-08-02, version 5.1.19*

This app makes living with vagrancies of the WSFerries so much easier. I use it all the time. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Best ferry app ever.

*2025-08-02, version 5.1.19*

I’ve been using this app basically since it launched, because I used to commute every day by Bainbridge ferry (it’s more like once a week now). I immediately became an evangelist for it and I share it with everyone: Friends, tourists staying more than a day or two, regular commuters, everyone. It does everything the WSF app does except better: In fewer clicks, with a simpler UI. I’m so glad it exists that I didn’t hesitate for a second to pay for it when that became an option. I’m so glad its creator has been able to make this his job!

### 5/5 — Mind blowing integration.

*2025-07-28, version 5.1.19*

Love the stability and complete integration with everything you need to monitor and manage your ferry experience!

### 5/5 — Wonderful, particularly for San Juan Islands

*2025-07-25, version 5.1.19*

San Juan Island ferries are often off-schedule and difficult to anticipate. This app helps tremendously in planning and scheduling! Far far superior to the DOT fairy scheduling app

### 5/5 — Eased soul

*2025-07-23, version 5.1.19*

Ferry system is a nightmare. This app smooths out the bumps as much as possible. Well designed, well thought out, relies on multiple sources of data to ensure accuracy, and it so much better than the official WSDOT app.

### 5/5 — So easy

*2025-07-11, version 5.1.19*

So good. Just found this and love it. I love being able to keep my favorite ferry at the top, the swipe option is super convenient and it seems to be fairly well updated in delays. LOVE. IT

### 5/5 — Best app ever

*2025-06-23, version 5.1.19*

Can't imagine living without this app, it is so helpful and well-designed.

### 5/5 — Local knowledge!

*2025-06-07, version 5.1.15*

This app has the features that a regular ferry rider understands. Ghost boat support, clear interface, clean design and a friendly vibe.

### 5/5 — FerryFriend Is Awesome

*2025-05-15, version 5.1.12*

As a Vashonite, me and my family take the ferry a lot and rely on FerryFriend to keep us in the know - especially as schedules and timings can vary a lot! This is an essential app for anyone who uses the ferries - highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Your source for WA ferry info!

*2025-05-08, version 5.1.12*

An efficient and helpful app. Great job!!

### 5/5 — Take my money!!

*2025-05-07, version 5.1.12*

Delighted to finally pay for his amazing service! This app is a life-changer for islanders. Interface and usability is everything islanders dreamed of and more, short of somehow fixing the actual WSDOT ferry system 🙃. Every new update being more amazing tools and info. FerryFriend forever!!! ❤️❤️❤️

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — The update sucks

*2026-06-12, version 6.1.0*

I regret updating this app. The update is very visually busy and difficult to navigate. I'm trying to figure out how to revert it to a previous version.

I commute by ferry most days and have used this app for 2 years for ferry alerts, vessel mapping, and reservations. It used to be really useful! If I can't figure out a way to revert the update I'm just gonna delete it and use the wsdot app instead, which is clunky but is better than this.

### 1/5 — Point defiance

*2025-09-03, version 5.2.3*

Always late, short on staff

### 1/5 — Another developer who needs to learn to budget

*2025-08-21, version 5.2*

This app is not complicated or elaborate. It’s not fun to use, or pleasant to look at. It was not a feat of engineering to make. But it had one job, which was to marginally improve the formatting of some publicly available information. And it was ok at it. In return, its developer was granted a lifestyle of freedom and opulence that few can dream of.

But as always, it wasn’t enough. Inspired, perhaps, by rent seeking everywhere, the author of this short work decided that for the privilege of using bookmarks, you should now pay him $3/month to exist.

I’d rather use a WSDOT website. Which is saying something.

### 1/5 — $4.08 $4.08 Totals: Phone Cases: 2 Phone Chargers: 2 Phones: 1

*2025-03-16, version 5.1.8*

$3.60 $3.60 Totals: Default Apps On Home Screen: 7

### 1/5 — Doesn’t reflect cancellations

*2024-12-18, version 5.0.6*

The ferry was cancelled due to mechanical issues and they didn’t even reflect it in the app even though it was an all day thing. Seems like a very simple thing to do

### 1/5 — Losing features to subscription model.

*2024-12-05, version 5.0.3*

I liked the app but features are being put behind a subscription paywall. I think ad revenue was a better choice with a paid “pro” option instead of a plea for money subscription model.

### 1/5 — Feature regression

*2024-12-05, version 5.0.3*

Favoriting a route is now a paid feature. I understand the need to monetize the app for development, but it would've made sense to introduce new features for the upsell, instead of removing basic functionality to force upgrades. The latest update gives a bad customer experience and undermines trust.

### 1/5 — 5.0 Is Terrible

*2024-12-02, version 5.0.1*

I have loved this app for years, and it's saved me a lot of headache as someone new to the area when I first used it. The new update is full of invasive microtransactional bloat. Why does it need and keep asking for my location? Why is the favorite route option now locked behind a subscription service? The routes are much harder to navigate to, and the readability of the app is gone with all the UI changes.
If the creator needs more support, then ask for it. Turning people's generosity into a near requirement to use the app normally is malicious.
Really disappointed.

### 1/5 — Another developer who needs to learn to budget

*2024-12-02, version 5.0.0*

### 1/5 — This is unacceptable

*2024-07-24*

What is the point of using this app when nothing is updated? We have been sitting at the ferry landing in Anacortes for over three hours and the app says we are supposed to be arriving at Lopez right now on the Yakima. The Yakima, meanwhile, is parked at the landing with its lights off, probably out of commission. Again. No one has updated us on the situation. No ferry workers are to be found anywhere. I had to gather info piecemeal from other passengers who are also stuck here, and the latest rumor is that we will have to wait two and a half more hours. But of course, the app doesn’t have any updates.

This is unacceptable. The worst part is, I’ve been told from people who live on the islands that this happens all the time. I don’t plan on ever returning to the San Juans, solely due to the incompetence of those running the ferry system.

**Developer response:** I’m sorry about your experience. The app is not affiliated with Washington State Ferries but relies on their information feed (which as you experienced can be seriously lacking). I do what we can to augment the information provided by the state but am sometimes severely limited as you were.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — BI Resident

*2026-08-24, version 6.2.5*

Use it every day to hold my ticket, check on status and follow location of ferries.

### 5/5 — Best ferry information

*2026-08-19, version 6.2.4*

This app is far above and beyond the WSF information that one can find. Accurate and timely. If you have to take a ferry in WA state you need this app.

### 5/5 — A must have!

*2026-07-27, version 6.2.2*

Thank you for helping me get myself, residents & guest to and from Lopez!

Literally it’s a joy to use your app!

### 5/5 — What did you do without this app??

*2026-07-27, version 6.2.2*

This is a great app. The predictions on car volumes for future sailing is incredibly helpful. And the ability to see how many rides are remaining on the multi-ride tickets is huge!

### 5/5 — Must have

*2026-07-14, version 6.2.2*

This is a gotta have it kinda app if you use WSDOT ferries at all. Super user-friendly and easy to navigate. I recommend to all

### 5/5 — The app you NEED for WA Ferry travel!

*2026-06-12, version 6.1.0*

The best. Love it! Highly recommended. Affordable.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2026-06-10, version 6.0.0*

A++++ for this app. I’ve ridden Wa. State Ferries for 50 years and along the way everything has gotten more and more complicated. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, you need is on this app (schedules, alerts, allotments, availability, real time maps, direct link to reservations, and more) and it’s so easy to navigate. I think it was designed by someone who knows what they’re doing.

### 5/5 — Love this App

*2026-04-17, version 5.4.4*

A must if you are a regular ferry user. Easy to use. Keep la track of your multi ride ticket usage.

### 5/5 — I love this app

*2026-04-11, version 5.4.3*

I just downloaded this app a few days ago because I HATE the WSDOT app and cannot read the ferry schedules they are so unnecessarily confusing. This app SAVED ME! I love everything about this app. The schedules are easy to read, the predictions and wonderful, and I love the ease of everything. I willingly will be supporting this app because it is so wonderful(: ⛴️🦦

### 5/5 — What a great, easy-to-use app!

*2026-03-27, version 5.4.2*

This app is sooo helpful! It’s easy to navigate and has a pleasing, understandable interface. I just moved to Vashon Island and have used it about a dozen times this week.
