## What is Fiber Color ID?

Fiber Color ID turns a fiber number into a color, and a color back into a fiber number. Built by a CFOT-certified fiber technician for splicers, OSP technicians and engineers who need the right answer in a handhole, not a spreadsheet back at the office.

WORKS BOTH WAYS
- Enter a fiber number and get its tube or ribbon, its position in that unit, and both colors with the marking.
- Or pick the colors and markings you can actually see on the fiber and get the fiber number back.

THE WHOLE CABLE ON ONE CHART
- Every tube or ribbon is a row, every position a column, and every cell carries that fiber's number in the cable. Zoom from a 12 out to a 6,912.
- Tap a tube and a position and the crosshair lands on the fiber.
- Every color is also named in words: a two-letter code over each column, the full name beside each tube. Readable if you are color-blind or holding a black-and-white copy.

DASHES OR BINDER THREADS, YOUR CALL
Above 12 fibers in a tube, manufacturers mark the repeat in different ways. Some print dashes on the fiber. Others group the fibers under colored binder threads and restart the colors under each thread. Tell the app which your cable uses (dashes, threads or both) and how many fibers sit under each thread. Tubes over 12 start on threads of 12, and one tap switches to dashes.

COLOR STANDARDS BY COUNTRY
TIA-598-C (USA) is the default. DIN VDE 0888 (Germany), S12 (Sweden), FIN 2012 (Finland) and Type E (Televerket / Ericsson) are built in. The app never guesses which one your cable follows. You pick it, and it remembers.

WHEN THE CABLE FOLLOWS NO STANDARD
A manufacturer with its own order, a cable old enough that nobody publishes its color code any more. Build the sequence yourself, up to 13 positions including a natural uncolored fiber. Name the colors the way your crew says them. Set which color the repeat marking is printed in. The app does the arithmetic off your sequence, labels every answer as yours, and one tap puts you back on the standard without deleting anything. Share a sequence with the crew as a short block of text. Importing is free.

BUILT FOR REAL CABLE
- Loose tube and ribbon construction.
- Standard counts from 6 up to 6,912 fibers.
- Custom cable counts and custom tube or ribbon sizes for non-standard builds.
- Every fiber in the unit drawn out with yours ringed, so you can check the app against what is in your hand.

WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL
Every answer is arithmetic done on your device against color tables built into the app. No account, no sign-in, no network connection. It works in a vault, a manhole, a splice trailer, or anywhere else with no bars.

NO ADS, NO TRACKING
No advertising and no analytics. The app does not collect information about you or about what you look up.

FREE AND PAID
Free covers standard loose-tube cables up to 144 fibers and importing a sequence someone else built. Country standards and the dashes-or-threads setting are never locked, because a wrong color is a wrong splice. There is no trial clock.

A single one-time purchase unlocks ribbon mode, custom tube and ribbon sizes, counts above 144, the interactive cable chart, and building and exporting your own color sequences. It is priced for the cables a preset color card cannot handle: a high-count ribbon cable, a tube size nobody printed a card for, a sequence your crew had to work out by hand. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. If the store cannot be reached, an unlock already recorded on your device keeps working.

WHAT IS STANDARD, AND WHAT IS CONVENTION
Colors follow TIA-598-C unless you choose a country standard or define your own. How the repeat is marked above 12 fibers, and what the markings look like past a double dash, varies by manufacturer and product; where there is no published rule, the app says so rather than guessing. Where your cable sheet disagrees with the app, trust the cable sheet, and please send us the cable structure so we can look at it.

## Frequently asked questions about Fiber Color ID

### How does Fiber Color ID convert fiber numbers to colors?

Fiber Color ID uses built-in color tables based on selected international standards or custom configurations. You enter a fiber number, and it displays the corresponding tube/ribbon, position, and colors with markings.

### Can Fiber Color ID work without an internet connection?

Yes, Fiber Color ID is designed to work completely offline. All calculations and color tables are stored on your device, making it usable in areas with no signal.

### What fiber optic cable standards does Fiber Color ID support?

Fiber Color ID supports TIA-598-C (USA) by default, and also includes DIN VDE 0888 (Germany), S12 (Sweden), FIN 2012 (Finland), and Type E (Televerket / Ericsson). You can select the standard relevant to your cable.

### Can I use Fiber Color ID for non-standard fiber optic cables?

Yes, Fiber Color ID allows you to build custom sequences for manufacturers with unique color orders or older cables. You can define the sequence, name colors, and set repeat markings.

### Does Fiber Color ID have ads?

No, Fiber Color ID is ad-free and does not track user data. The developers prioritize a clean user experience without interruptions or data collection.

### What is the price of Fiber Color ID?

Fiber Color ID is free to download and use for standard loose-tube cables up to 144 fibers and importing custom sequences. Advanced features like dashes-or-threads settings and country standards are included without additional cost.

### How often is Fiber Color ID updated?

The latest version is 1.5.3, last updated on September 30, 2026. Updates typically include improvements to existing features and support for new standards or cable types.

### What devices is Fiber Color ID compatible with?

Fiber Color ID is available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices. It is rated for ages 4 and up, making it accessible for a wide range of users.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.3 — 2026-09-30

Fix: the cable chart now works with the phone turned sideways. The chart fills the screen, the page scrolls down to the notes below it, and turning the phone back upright redraws the whole chart instead of leaving part of it blank.

Still new from 1.5.2: every color on the chart is named in words, with the full name down the side and a two-letter code across the top, so it reads for color-blind techs and on a black-and-white printout.

### 1.5.2 — 2026-09-29

Field requests and fixes:

- The chart names every color in words, for color-blind techs and black-and-white printouts: a two-letter code over each column (BL, OR, GR...) and the full color name beside each tube, using your own color names if you renamed them. The dash marking also moved off the fiber number onto the column swatch, and each cell writes D, 2D, 3D in its corner.
- Dashes or binder threads, your call. Tell the app how your tube marks the repeat above 12 fibers (dashes, binder threads, or both) and how many fibers sit under each thread. With threads, the colors restart under each thread and no dash count is shown. Tubes over 12 now default to threads of 12; one tap switches to dashes.
- Country color standards: DIN VDE 0888 (Germany), S12 (Sweden), FIN 2012 (Finland) and Type E (Televerket / Ericsson), alongside TIA-598-C (USA), which stays the default. Pick one once and the app remembers it.
- Reverse lookup knows about threads too: pick the thread color you see and the fiber color under it.
- The fiber number box no longer puts a 1 back while you type. Clear it, type 48, and you get 48.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-09-28

THE CABLE CHART

The whole cable as a chart you can zoom: one row per tube or ribbon, one column per position, and the fiber's number in every cell, up to 6,912 fibers.

Tap a tube and its row lights up. Tap a position and its column lights up. The fiber you want is where they cross - the way you read a paper chart, find the tube and run across, instead of hunting for one small cell. Tap any cell and it drops straight into the calculator.

REPEAT MARKINGS ARE NOW WRITTEN, NOT DRAWN

A single dash is still drawn on the fiber. Past that, the chart writes the count - 2D, 3D, 4D - so a 3,456 no longer shows the same two stripes for twenty-three different repeats, and tube 25 no longer looks like tube 37.

The count is arithmetic and always true. What those dashes actually look like on your cable past a double dash is manufacturer convention, not a standard, and the references disagree. The chart says so rather than picking a winner. Your cable sheet governs.

The cable chart is part of the one-time Pro unlock, alongside ribbon mode, custom tube and ribbon sizes, cable counts above 144 fibers, and your own color sequences. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

### 1.4.3 — 2026-09-26

Ribbon tally

The ribbon card used to explain the notation and leave the arithmetic to you. It now lays out the actual run of marks for the ribbon in your hand. Above ten it shows both ways the number gets printed - 15 as three blocks, or as one long bar plus one block - because that genuinely varies from cable to cable. The blocks-and-ticks row names Prysmian MassLink FlexRibbon and Corning Flow. The long-bar row names no manufacturer, because no published sheet for it has been found. The cable sheet still wins.

Twelve fibers to a row

A 24-fiber tube drew all 24 on one line, which left each swatch about as wide as a pencil lead. Rows are twelve now, so the swatches are big enough to hit with a glove on - and a row lines up with a binder group.

Tap or step to the next fiber

Touch any fiber in the diagram to jump straight to it, or use the minus and plus buttons beside the fiber field to walk along the tube one at a time.

Fixes

The target marker floated above the wrong row on any cable with more than one row of fibers. The field reference card now takes its heading and its range from the color sequence you actually have loaded, instead of always describing the standard twelve.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-09-26

Ribbon legend

The "= 10" mark was drawn as a thin vertical line, close enough to the "= 1" tick that the two read the same at arm's length. It is now a heavy bar lying along the fiber — the same thickness as the "= 5" block and twice its length. All three tiles in the key are now the same size.

A reminder of how the printed marks work: they are read like tally marks, left to right and added. Three ticks is 3, a filled block is 5.

Layout

Safe areas are now respected on all four edges, so nothing sits under a rounded corner or a cutout in landscape.
