### 4/5 — What happened to Tasmania?

*2026-01-18, version 4.0*

I love this app- when I’m in Victoria. When are you going to bring back the iPhone version of the Tasmanian edition?

### 4/5 — please Read

*2025-08-24, version 4.0*

it would be 5 star but you removed the map that highlighted where the animal was found which in my opinion was one of the best features. Please bring it back.

### 4/5 — Location identification was better before.

*2025-08-07, version 4.0*

To find where said fauna is located, there was a map of Australia and the fauna location was coloured in. This is the best way to see where they are located.
No more maps in the update which makes it more difficult to see where particular fauna is located.
It takes a lot of time to search the locations online.
Apart from that, not a bad app in general. More updates are needed to add to the fauna database.

### 4/5 — I absolutely love this app

*2023-05-04, version 4.0*

I absolutely love this app and before the recent “update” I would have given 6 stars out of 5 because it’s so great. I use the app regularly on my walks and when I’m out and about.

The reason I’ve dropped my rating back to a 4 is because the maps have been removed!!! Why have you done this? They were SO useful and I used them often.

Please please bring the maps back. If you do, I will immediately raise my rating to 5🌟

Thank you for an excellent app, that will be close to perfect once tha maps are returned. 🤩

### 4/5 — Great but could use more accessibility features

*2021-07-06, version 3.0*

My four year old loves this app, but it would be even more amazing if the names and details could be included in audio for better self guided learning.

### 4/5 — App won’t open

*2020-12-29, version 3.0*

I love this field guide, but currently the App won’t open.

### 4/5 — Could be better

*2020-06-23, version 3.0*

This app is amazing! I constantly take it out for walks to identify wildlife. However, there are a few species that aren’t documented in the app, and I wish there was a function where you could search the common or colloquial name (butchy boy-slater)

### 4/5 — Ability to save species would be good

*2020-05-05, version 3.0*

Love this app and use it regularly in my garden and walking around Phillip Island
What would be a good is a page where you can save and list the species you have in your garden or you have seen in your travels
What would be better is if this list could create a map of distribution based on users data from this page

### 4/5 — Fantastic App

*2019-05-20, version 3.0*

Would love to see a checklist of animals, birds and reptiles you see. Then be able to see all the animals you have seen in another page.

### 4/5 — It was missing the one bird I downloaded it to find.

*2018-11-01, version 3.0*

The app is great, it has an excellent database, however I was in Victoria a few weeks ago and saw a lot of Apostlebirds around the northeastern cities, I wanted to know what they were and after a very long, thorough search I could not identify them through this database. (I later did through google) I tried searching all the different names that google labels the Apostlebirds under and no luck. Maybe an option to suggest missing species could be useful. Otherwise great and functional app.

### 5/5 — Sensational

*2018-01-13, version 3.0*

Wonderfully informative

### 5/5 — Great Field Guide

*2017-11-23, version 3.0*

Living in regional Victoria this guide is great to use when walking around the paddocks and gardens of our property. Thank you for taking the time to produce it and update it.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2017-11-23, version 3.0*

Love this App, great for identifying local fauna. The audio is especially helpful.

### 4/5 — Very good but room for improvement

*2017-06-03, version 3.0*

This app is very good. I think it could be further improved by increasing the comprehensiveness, such as adding more invertebrates and non-animals.

### 4/5 — Great stuff

*2017-05-08, version 3.0*

This is great.

### 4/5 — Togram

*2017-04-09, version 3.0*

It is a great app. It's a pity the Koel is not in it as I have seen it in three different places in VIC. Love the bird sounds.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2016-12-16, version 3.0*

Great app. Thank a lot to whoever made it.
No adds, completely free, great photos.
The perfect field guide.
The sounds for some of the animals are great and I hope they keep putting more on.
I can't say enough how great this is.
I wish I could give this app more than five stars.
Thank so much for making this!

### 1/5 — IOS8 compatibility

*2015-03-09, version 2.1*

Still no iOS compatibility with IOS8.
A real pity that the museum spent the time to create a great app then decided to not support upgrades. As more and more people go to the new iOS then this app becomes sadly irrelevant.

### 1/5 — Lost field guide

*2014-11-23, version 2.1*

After update to IOS 8 - No pictures or sound - please fix

### 1/5 — Won't download

*2013-10-02, version Version 1.1*

YOUR APP WONT DOWNLOAD NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRY ALL OTHER APPS DOWNLOAD EXCEPT THIS ONE

### 2/5 — No pictures and sound

*2014-11-06, version 2.1*

Used to be 5 stars but pictures and sound have disappeared. May be an issue with IOS 8?

### 3/5 — Would love to see an update

*2022-09-25, version 3.0*

I rely on this app sometimes heavily while out in the field. Bird calls need to be added as majority don’t have them registered.
Could probably add a few more species in. It’s a great app but could definitely do with an upgrade

### 3/5 — Has great information but many animals weren’t there

*2019-10-22, version 3.0*

It has lots of information but I was very disappointed to find out all the animals I was researching weren’t on the app. Please add the Tasmanian devil as they are endangered.

### 3/5 — Well Made App - Limited Field Guide

*2019-09-30, version 3.0*

This is a really well made app, with good quality entries for the animals listed. Would be a great resource for young kids.

Unfortunately I’ve found that it’s not much use as a Field Guide because their are so many animals and birds not listed.

I’ve downloaded and deleted this app multiple times over the years. I’ll see a bird or animal that I’m unfamiliar with, get curious and do a google search to try and identify it, get recommended this app, download it, realise what I’m looking for isn’t there and that this all feels a bit familiar, remember the last time and delete the app again. Bit of a frustrating cycle.

I totally understand that there are size limitations in order to have the app function offline. It’s a great app, just no good for identifying less common animals.

### 3/5 — Great app, please update.

*2015-03-16, version 2.1*

This was a wonderful resource until ios8 update, now the are no photos in the app. Please do an update. Prior to ios8 would have been a five star review.

### 3/5 — Victorian field guide

*2014-12-26, version 2.1*

Great program, but after last update, most pictures have disappeared

### 3/5 — Good....

*2014-10-29, version 2.1*

It's quite a good guide but needs more bird sounds. There's barely any. Not even for a cockatiel

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love this app …

*2023-04-14, version 4.0*

… but really missing the maps in the recent update.

Hopefully there will be more funding - audio files for more of the birds, frogs and other wildlife calls would be nice!

The photos are great, but often we can only hear our little friends out there in our gardens or in the wild.

### 5/5 — Amazing resource

*2022-09-08, version 3.0*

This app is very useful and easy to use,
Would absolutely love to see this get an update!!

### 5/5 — Great guide to Victorian fauna

*2022-02-24, version 3.0*

I love this app, which I’ve had and used for years. It’s so interesting to learn about the birds, mammals, reptiles, fish and even insects and aquatic invertebrates that are found in Victoria. As well as descriptions and distribution maps, it has photos and sounds/calls, so is particularly useful for identifying birds in my back garden or in the bush. You can also see how common or endangered different creatures are. Well done Museums Victoria, for producing this app.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2021-10-08, version 3.0*

This app is amazing. Always helps me to identify the wildlife I see in Australia.
Can you please update the one for WA as it’s not working anymore with the last iOS version for iPhone ? Thank you for your amazing work!🙏🏼

### 5/5 — Very accurate

*2021-01-16, version 3.0*

I love this app and use regularly. The sounds for the birds are so helpful. Recommend it highly.

### 5/5 — Thank you Natural History Museums

*2021-01-03, version 3.0*

I downloaded this app with low expectations, thinking it would be a light guide with few species. What a surprise to find most of the animals you are likely to see in the bush or shore are here, with all the essential information required for accurate, or at least approximate identification, and a description of the biology of the animal. This is a fantastic initiative and a gift to all residents and visitors to Australia. And there is one guide for every state and territory! Thank you Natural Museums of Australia.

### 5/5 — So handy and easy to use

*2020-07-30, version 3.0*

It’s simple to use and the voice calls from birds to toadlets is excellent. I use it often and have found it is so easy to use.

### 5/5 — The ultimate in usability

*2020-01-03, version 3.0*

This app is perfect for quick on- the- spot id. Obviously it cannot be comprehensive but it gives a good overview for those of us curious about things outside our main areas of interest. I use it for lizards, jellyfish and insects but supplement it with a bird app and plant websites, areas where I want more detail. I use this app very often and cannot do without it.

### 5/5 — Thanks so much

*2019-10-31, version 3.0*

Thanks to Museum staff who must have put a huge effort into this. It makes a very compact field guide to carry in the pocket Fantastic!

### 5/5 — Love it... but add this feature and it will be awesome!

*2019-02-01, version 3.0*

Add the ability for users to take photo’s and feed back to the museum staff with the location. If the creature is not in the list it can be added, if it is in the list then it will help to build the picture of known locations
