## What is Field Notebook?

One notebook for bugs, butterflies and moths.
Switch between two volumes, Insects and Butterflies & Moths, and look up names from your own photos. Everything runs on your device, so photos are never sent anywhere and it works without a connection.

PICK A VOLUME, THEN SHOOT
- Choose a volume on the shelf; the guide, photo ID and quiz follow it
- The AI suggests candidate names from a camera or album photo (only a guide, never a verdict)
- Tap the one you think is right to save it as a record

TWO VOLUMES
- Insects: 230 species, from beetles and dragonflies to cicadas and bees
- Butterflies & Moths: 76 species, with appearance tips and family notes

HOW TO BUY
- Browsing the guide cards and keeping records are free. Photo ID is limited to 3 a day (unlimited for the first 7 days)
- One purchase unlocks unlimited photo ID for both Insects and Butterflies & Moths
- The one-time purchase also opens unlimited quiz, a map of your finds, CSV export of your records, and photo tips and observation hints (no ads)
- The all-volumes pack opens every land volume, including ones added later
- Not a subscription. On a new device, use Restore purchase

SAFETY
Avoid touching unfamiliar insects with bare hands. AI results and guide contents are estimates; do not use them to judge whether an insect is dangerous.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-10-09

New in 2.0: switch between volumes. Flip between Insects and Butterflies & Moths inside one notebook; the guide, photo ID and quiz follow the volume you pick. Buy per volume or get the all-volumes pack.

### 1.0.11 — 2026-10-04

• Minor display and stability improvements

### 1.0.9 — 2026-09-24

• Minor display and stability improvements

### 1.0.8 — 2026-09-21

• Improved photo identification for cicadas and some other insects (the general model's correct answer was being overridden by a specialist model).
• When the app is unsure it sometimes showed only one candidate; it now lists up to three. On our sample cicada photos, the correct name is among the candidates for 4 of 5 shots, up from 1 of 5.
• Minor adjustments and stability improvements.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-09-21

• VoiceOver now describes photos and candidate names
• Layouts stay intact with larger text sizes
• Uncertain photos are now shown as candidates instead of a confident match
• For uncertain photos, results are shown as candidates instead of a single definite answer
• You can now choose the app language in Settings
