## What is Field of Depth?

Field of Depth represents depth of field and angle of view visually - as an interactive graphic, on a map and in the real world via augmented reality.

The distance to the object can be entered directly in the respective view, aperture and focal length can be changed intuitively by rotating the lens symbol or using sliders.

While the graphic view makes the depth of field easy to recognize and experience, the map allows you to judge in advance which focal length is the right one for a motif. The Augmented Reality function works perfect on shorter distances to find the right aperture for a sharp image of an object.

Different combinations of cameras and lenses can be added to the equipment list, which allows for a quick change between the equipments.
New equipments can be added easily by entering sensor size and lens parameters. The entire equipment can be exported and transferred to another device, for example.

## Key features

- Interactive depth of field visualization
- Map-based focal length planning
- Augmented reality for close-up previews
- Adjustable distance, aperture, and focal length
- Customizable camera and lens equipment lists
- Exportable equipment data

### 5/5 — Great app idea for visualization!

*2026-04-05*

Love the app, great work! My only gripe is that every page supports swiping to go back a page and i feel like it’s taking control over everything, especially the focal length slider, it’s very difficult to un-zoom the focal length, I just ask for a setting (maybe under the “i” button top right) to disable swipe to go back as I never use that feature 🙏🏽

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-04-28*

This is not working. The instructions are minimal and I don’t see the same screens sots from the video. Please provide instructions or a refund. Thanks.

### 5/5 — Dankeschön

Sehr anschauliche App, selbsterklärend und mit der Konzentration auf das Wesentliche!

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2019-11-05*

There are several D of F apps out there, but this one beats them all with its visuals. You set the camera and lens you’re using, the focal length (if it’s a zoom) and your aperture, then you can move a slider up or down and two lines move up and down the y-axis showing the minimum and maximum distances that are in focus. As a bonus, it even shows the angle of view determined by your focal length.

One minor quibble for me: some of the labels are dark blue with black type, which is hard to read. I’d prefer a different choice of colors.

Note: another reviewer said it wouldn’t go below f/2.8. Not true. When you add a lens to the app, you tell it the maximum aperture of that lens. If it’s a f/1.4 lens, for example, you enter that information (just once) and the app will go to 1.4 for that lens.

**Developer response:** Thank you very much! I have put the colors on my list for the next update!

### 1/5 — Do not get!!!

*2019-11-04*

Absolutely worthless. It does not calculate below F2.8 which is when depth of field is even more critical and the only reason I paid for the app.

**Developer response:** Hello! The minimum aperture depends on the current lens. Please go to the Equipment List, choose an equipment and either edit it's lens or create a new one. Please email me (address under Settings -> About) if you have any further questions!

### 5/5 — The Best

*2019-11-02*

I’ve tried a few other depth of field calculators over the years but none are as intuitive and well designed as this one.

Everything from adding your gear to visualizing your depth of field to even seeing the calculation that was performed to arrive at the result is easy to use and displayed in a simple and modern GUI.

Nice work!

### 5/5 — Sehr schön gemacht.

*2019-09-29*

Die Kamera-Ausrüstung kann man auch weiterleiten - gut.

### 5/5 — Gesucht und gefunden

*2014-08-15*

Sehr nützlich und gut gestaltet. So macht das ganze Spaß. Bitte nicht sterben lassen und weiter ausbauen!

### 5/5 — einfach gut!!! simply the best ... !!!!!

*2014-04-22*

Das ist das nützlichste dof-Tool weit und breit ! ! !

useful the best for all ! ! !

### 2/5 — Nicht empfehlenswert!

Die Entfernungsskala gibt mir zu denken. Ansonsten sieht das Teil gut aus...
