## What is Fieldmark?

PictureThis charges $39.99 a year after a seven-day trial and its App Store reviews are full of "Scam! Will auto charge you a full year." It also always gives you an answer, because a confident answer converts.

Fieldmark is $29.99 a year, and the first thing it will do is tell you when it does not know.

IT WILL TELL YOU WHEN IT DOESN'T KNOW
Every identification carries a confidence band. When it cannot reach the species it rolls up to the genus and says so. When the photo is not enough, it says "not enough evidence" instead of picking the most likely thing and sounding sure about it.

FIELDMARK NEVER SAYS EDIBLE
Not for a mushroom, not for a berry, not ever. In published testing, three identifier apps got poisonous mushrooms right between 30% and 44% of the time, and two of them returned false death cap identifications. What Fieldmark does instead is name the dangerous lookalikes for whatever you are pointing at, and show a banner you cannot dismiss.

A KEY, NOT A SHUTTER BUTTON
A photo cannot show you the volva under the soil, the spore print, or whether the stem is hollow. For fungi and foraged plants Fieldmark runs a real dichotomous key and asks you — because those are the features that actually separate a good dinner from a liver transplant.

WHAT IT COSTS

$3.99/month, or $29.99/year — $2.50/month, 25% under PictureThis, with 188 identifications a month.

There is a seven-day free trial on the annual plan. On day seven it becomes $29.99 for the year — that sentence is on the paywall, in the same size as everything else, before you start. Cancelling in Settings before then stops it. You will not find a story like PictureThis's in this app, because the thing that produces those stories is the small print, and there isn't any.

WHAT WE DON'T DO
• No trial that turns into an annual charge you were not told about, and no tiny cancel button. The date and the amount are on the paywall.
• No credits, no coin packs, no consumables.
• You are never charged for an identification that fails.
• No weekly subscription. No ads.

Fieldmark is an identification aid. It is not a substitute for an expert, and for anything you intend to eat it will tell you so in those words.
