## What is FieldMedic?

|| FieldMedic — Remote & austere medicine ||

FieldMedic is the offline clinical reference for medics who work where definitive care is hours or days away — expedition, military, maritime and remote practice. 129 conditions, 44 medications, guided triage, smart kit lists and full patient records, all working with no signal.

|| WHAT'S INCLUDED ||
Conditions — 129 conditions across First Aid, Trauma, Emergencies, Environmental, Tropical, and Specialist Areas, each with structured symptoms, step-by-step management, medications, and evac criteria. Favourite for instant access.

Symptom Checker — Select a primary complaint and the app works through a focused sequence built for that presentation, scoring conditions across 27 clinical pathways. Hard confirmation rules fire the moment a critical condition's defining features are present.

Vital Signs — NEWS2 scoring with action guidance for each score. Shock Index calculated automatically. Log readings to a patient file to track trends.

Medications — 44 medications with pre-administration safety checklists, field dosing, interactions, and contraindications. Verify all dosing against current guidelines.

Smart Kit List — Pick your terrain — and the app recommends what to bring. Every item maps to the conditions it treats, so you see what your kit covers and catch critical gaps before you leave. Tag where each item is packed, and when you treat a condition the app shows which pouch the drug is in. Export as PDF.

Patient Files — One file per person, just like real medical records. Create a file for every team member before departure — history, allergies, medications, emergency contact, photo — then add incidents as they happen: AMPLE history, vitals, treatment notes, triage priority, and ATMIST handover. Full evacuation management — ETHANE scene reports, planning, and timestamped comms logs. Protected by Face ID.

Medic Team & Peer Sync — Set up your medic profile (name, role, photo) and link with nearby medics to build your team — their names appear on records they author. Sync patient files directly between devices — no internet, no server.

|| FIELDMEDIC PRO ||
The free version includes the full conditions browser and symptom checker. A one-time Pro purchase unlocks: complete management protocols, medication safety checklists, patient files with incident timelines and evacuation management, pre-departure screening, the smart kit list generator, vital signs history, medic profiles, and peer sync.

|| FIELDMEDIC BEACON (SUBSCRIPTION) ||
Beacon is an optional auto-renewable subscription that adds the connected layer: encrypted cloud backup, whole-team sync, the Records Portal, and pre-screening import. It requires the one-time FieldMedic Pro purchase.

|| CLINICAL STANDARDS ||
Compiled against published sources including BNF, NICE, JRCALC, WHO, ATLS, Wilderness Medical Society, Resuscitation Council UK, and Oxford University Handbook of Expedition and Wilderness Medicine. Full source list at fieldmedic.app/clinical-standards

|| OFFLINE FIRST ||
All content is stored on device. No internet connection is required after install. By default, patient data stays on your device and is never sent to any server — continuously mirrored to protected on-device storage (included in your iCloud device backup) and exportable as a restorable backup file. Optional FieldMedic Beacon adds end-to-end encrypted cloud backup and team sync, and only ever uploads when you turn it on.

|| IMPORTANT ||

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.1 — 2026-08-07

New clinical content, reviewed against UK guidelines.

• Tranexamic acid (TXA) and lidocaine added — each with pre-administration checklists, and local-anaesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) management for lidocaine.
• New reference for adrenal crisis / Addison's, with expanded hydrocortisone guidance and a new side-effects section on medication cards.
• Head-injury reference updated with the Canadian CT Head Rule to support evacuation and imaging decisions.
• Cervical-collar guidance revised in line with current remote-practice evidence (manual in-line stabilisation first).
• Anti-sickness medications consolidated into a single, clearer tab.

Content now spans 129 conditions, 44 medications and 94 kit items. Various refinements and fixes throughout.

All clinical content is referenced to UK guidelines (BNF, NICE, JRCALC, WMS, RCUK). FieldMedic is a reference tool to support decision-making by trained practitioners — always verify against your local protocols.

Introducing Beacon — an optional connected layer with end-to-end-encrypted cloud backup, whole-team sync, and a desktop Records Portal. Off by default; your encryption key never leaves your device.

### 1.9 — 2026-07-17

Introducing FieldMedic Beacon — the optional connected layer (subscription).

• Cloud Backup — automatic, end-to-end encrypted backup of your records. Restore everything onto a new phone with a recovery code.
• Team Sync — your whole team's patient files stay in step over the internet, encrypted so only your team can read them.
• Records Portal — open your records on a computer after the trip to review, export to spreadsheet, and print handovers.
• Pre-screening import — bring your group's medical forms straight into the app.

Beacon is zero-knowledge: nothing is uploaded unless you turn it on, and your encryption key never leaves your devices. Requires FieldMedic Pro.

Also in this release:
• Vital signs — NEWS2 SpO2 Scale 2 (COPD) with a supplemental-oxygen option
• Updated head-injury and cervical-spine guidance
• Kit list — assign each item a pack location and see where a drug is packed at the point of care
• Reliability and performance improvements throughout

### 1.8 — 2026-07-02

One file per person
Every expedition member now has a single patient file — medical details, photo, and every incident in one timeline, just like real medical records. Your existing group members and records migrate automatically.

Pre-departure screening
Add files one at a time, import your whole group from a spreadsheet, or scan each member's QR code — generated by a private form at fieldmedic.app/prescreen. Nothing touches a server.

Know who you're syncing with
Set up your medic profile (name, role, photo) in Settings. The sync screen now shows the other medic's profile card — not just a device name. Link with a nearby medic to add each other to your Medic Teams without sharing any patient data, or share a single patient file to a colleague in one tap.

Know where your kit is packed
Tag each kit item with where it lives in your pack (front pouch, trauma pouch, med roll…). When you treat a condition, the app shows which pouch the drug is in — not just that it's in your kit.

Your records, protected
Clinical data is continuously mirrored to protected on-device storage and rides your iCloud device backup. Back up and share a restorable, dated backup file from Settings — importable on any device.

Also in 1.8
• Start an evacuation from inside the patient file
• Hold down a patient, medic, or incident to delete it
• Photos on patient files, your Medic Team, and your profile
• NEWS2 scoring aligned exactly to RCP (2017) bands
• New icons across conditions, symptom checker, and kit list
• Guided Scenario updated to the new patient-file workflow
• Dozens of layout, clarity, and reliability improvements

### 1.7 — 2026-06-03

v1.7
• Offline team sync — share patient records, team & group members device-to-device over WiFi Direct/Bluetooth. No internet, no server; confirmed with a 4-digit code.
• Medical Team records with author attribution on every patient record.
• Vitals: NEWS2 action guidance, Shock Index, capillary refill in history, Vitals Log added to PDF export.
• Redesigned patient records with smooth, swipe-friendly sheets.
• New interactive Guided Scenario walkthrough (fully sandboxed).
• Smarter symptom checker, added migraine + improved headache pathway, and context-aware results.
• Refreshed clinical reference list, plus various fixes and polish.

### 1.6 — 2026-05-29

Clinical content reviewed led by our CMO
Over 65 conditions have been updated following a full clinical audit. Key changes include:
Resuscitation — BLS and AED protocols rewritten to full step-by-step detail. Anaphylaxis, stroke, meningitis, and sepsis management all updated with explicit drug dosing, source-directed antibiotic guidance, and current UK guideline references.
Trauma — Stop the Bleed, chest trauma, femoral fracture, and lethal triad protocols updated with current ATLS guidance. Lethal triad now recognised and confirmed by the symptom checker.
Environmental — Hypothermia and frostbite updated with the hypothermic burrito technique. Soft tissue injuries, ankle, and knee protocols updated to PEACE and LOVE (replacing POLICE). Burns management expanded with Parkland formula guidance.
Tropical — Malaria protocol updated with pregnancy regimens and Malarone same-trip warnings. Snakebite PIB now applies to all bites regardless of species. Typhoid antibiotic guidance updated for fluoroquinolone resistance.

Medications
10 targeted medication updates. Paracetamol and co-codamol now carry cross-warnings to prevent accidental double-dosing. Doxycycline loading dose added. Nitrofurantoin shortened to 3 days per NICE NG109. Malarone updated to UKHSA 2024 guidance.

Symptom Checker
Significant engine improvements. The checker now stops earlier when a presentation is clear, asks questions in the order that best separates the leading candidates, and surfaces serious conditions that haven't yet been ruled out even when they rank lower. Negative answers now actively reduce scores.
Choking now sits under Difficulty Breathing. A new Eye pathway separates Eye Trauma from CRAO in two questions. 23 new discriminating questions added across head injury, spinal injury, hypothermia, DKA, angina vs MI, quinsy, and more.

Suggest a Condition
The Conditions tab now has a Suggest a Condition option at the bottom, matching the existing Suggest a Medication.
