## What is FieldMonitor?

FieldMonitor gives you wireless monitoring & control for Canons, Panasonics, Sonys, and Teradeks.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT buy FieldMonitor without reading this ENTIRE description!

Test your camera with its native Wi-Fi app to make sure your workflow and recording formats are supported BEFORE buying FieldMonitor. Make sure you have the controls you need with the native app, and that image quality and lag are acceptable. Contact me if you have any questions.

• FieldMonitor has the same latency, resolution, and reliability as your camera’s native app.

• If a camera control or feature does not work with the native app, it won’t work with FieldMonitor.

• FieldMonitor has NO playback, review or download capability.

• In areas with busy Wi-Fi networks and/or sources of radio interference, performance cannot be guaranteed, whether using FieldMonitor or your camera’s native app.

WHAT IT DOES:

FieldMonitor™ lets you monitor picture, exposure, and color on supported Canon™, Panasonic™, and Sony™ cameras, and Teradek™ H.264/HEVC transmitters. FieldMonitor runs on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Silicon (M1) Mac.

Use markers to show safe areas, aspect ratios, and framing grids. Desqueeze anamorphic images, cropped to your final aspect ratio. Flip the image on either axis. Focus Assist helps you nail focus. Use a waveform monitor, vectorscope, histogram, false color, and 3D LUTs.

With iPhone 5S or later, iPod touch 6G or later, iPad Air or later, iPad mini 2 or later, and iPad Pro, you can see a false-color picture with adjustable levels.

With a supported camera and lens you can start/stop recording, control exposure and color settings, and zoom or focus remotely. Controls are designed for fast, realtime adjustments.

See the FieldMonitor website for details.

SUPPORTED SOURCES:

• Canon: EOS mirrorless and DSLR cameras that support video recording in Wi-Fi remote mode when using Canon’s Camera Connect.

• Panasonic: Lumix cameras that transmit a live view while recording when using Image App or Lumix Sync. GH3 and earlier cameras do NOT support video recording in Wi-Fi remote mode.

• Sony: only Alpha and RX cameras that transmit a live view while recording when using Imaging Edge Mobile. A5000, A6000, A7, A7R, A99 and earlier cameras do NOT support video recording in Wi-Fi remote mode.

• Teradek: H.264 and HEVC encoders only (Cube, Serv Pro), not uncompressed (Bolt).

• More info on the FieldMonitor website’s support page.

LIMITATIONS:

• FieldMonitor does not work with cine cameras or camcorders, only “hybrid” still & video cameras (mirrorless or DSLR).

• Audio is not transmitted from cameras, only Teradeks.

• Camera Wi-Fi images are 512x288, 640x360, 320x180, or 1024x576 depending on the camera. Teradeks support 240p to 1080p.

• “Smart Remote” Sonys do NOT allow use of Picture Profiles, S-Log, or S&Q Motion when using Wi-Fi remote control. Focus points can only be set in photo mode.

• “Ctrl w/ Smartphone“ Sonys do not display focus area, battery level, and/or storage info. Focus points can’t be set in the app with most cameras other than A1, A7Siii, and FX3, in video mode only.

• Fujifilm legacy support: ONLY X-T3 and X-T100 are supported. X-T3 only records 1080p / 29.97 fps; X-T100 only records 720p / 24 fps. See https://www.adamwilt.com/fieldmonitor/support.html#Fujifilm for other limitations.

### 5/5 — Lumix s5iix

*2024-11-09*

I have just been playing around with it for a couple days. It’s well worth the price, as a cell phone / field monitor holder is around the same price haha.

A lot of functionality, scopes/af / wave forms/ it’s quite impressive.

As for connecting consistently: 1. Turn camera on, go to wifi, turn on connection to phone
2. On phone connect through wifi to your camera
3. Open the Lumix app / either works (it’ll confirm it’s under control)
4. Open field monitor app.
5. Be impressed for its price.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review!

### 4/5 — Update required

*2024-10-30*

Ok

**Developer response:** The app gets updated when I find bugs or add new features. What update do you think it requires?

### 5/5 — Excelente! Usando na Lumix GH6

*2024-02-16*

Achando perfeito até agora. Muitas possibilidades e configurações avançadas.
Conectou tranquilamente na minha Lumix GH6

Latência de imagem aceitável para uma transmissão sem fio!

Recomendo

**Developer response:** Obrigado pela gentil avaliação!

### 5/5 — G85

*2024-02-01, version 10.3*

This app has taken my G85 video rig to the next level.
Seem less and professional
Thank you

### 1/5 — Inutilisable avec ma Sony RX 10iV

*2024-01-09*

### 2/5 — Meh

*2023-12-20, version 10.2*

It didn’t work for my cámara I want my money back 🥲

### 3/5 — needs an update for recent cameras

*2023-09-25*

The app doesn't seem to work with the recent sony cameras that do not use imagin edge, like the zve1, a6700, a7 R5 that use the creator's app instead.
Great app otherwise, but really needs an update !

### 1/5 — So laggy. Freezing.

*2023-07-16*

Canon M50. iPhone 11 as monitor. Very laggy and the feed only lasts for a few seconds before it freezes. This really lets the app down. All the other features are great but if you can’t see what your filming in real time it renders it unusable. Tried all the tips and tricks listed in the notes but to no avail. Very pricey for how bad it operates. Kinda feel duped.

**Developer response:** Sorry you feel duped. I try to make it clear that you should test performance with your camera's free native app before buying FieldMonitor, but sometimes that message doesn't get through. Not sure what it is about your setup that's causing the problem, but the symptoms you describe typically occur in very crowded RF environments with many Wi-Fi networks and high network congestion / interference. FWIW I've run FieldMonitor with the M50 Mk II and it worked fine. If you can't make it work you should ask Apple for a refund.

### 5/5 — Funktioniert auch mit der Sony ZV-E10

*2022-11-10*

### 5/5 — Worth the price

*2022-04-30*

Life saver. Panasonic doesn’t offer external monitor support on the G7 and their official app doesn’t offer full screen monitoring (why???). You could shell out $300 for an atomos recorder (more than I paid for the camera body), or you could spend $20 on this very capable app. It’s surprising usable. I’m not sure if you could rely on this for super professional work, but for my use case it does the job. It seems like the developer maintains the app fairly well, so hopefully this can be a good long term solution for me. Keep up the good work!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the kind words!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 12.1 — 2026-05-23

• Improved false-color rendering quality.
• Teradek settings: added “Use Hardware Decoding”. If you see a lateral chroma shift with some streams (e.g., Cube RTP/RTSP 1080p), turning hardware decoding off should fix it.

### 12.0 — 2026-02-19

False Color improvements:
• The underlying image can now be rendered in color instead of grayscale. Control it with the Color switch in the False Color panel.
• False Color can be computed pre-LUT or post-LUT. Control it with the False Color switch in the Level panel.
• The false color image now shows Focus Assist effects.

### 11.3 — 2026-01-29

Changes for Canon cameras:
• Audio meters displayed for more models, like the R6II.
• Non-adjustable controls were sometimes shown as adjustable for some cameras; this is now fixed.
• Shutter & aperture status decoding changed; should be more reliable for all Canons.

### 11.2 — 2026-01-08

• Updated for iOS/iPadOS 26.
• Fixed Panasonic 17:9 display (was shown as 1.86:1, now 1.89:1).
• Fixed LUT import from email and iCloud Drive.

### 11.1 — 2025-06-26

• FieldMonitor connects more reliably to recent Panasonics.
• “GH6 Forced Reset” is now “Panasonic Forced Reset” as it applies to GH6 and to newer cameras as well.
