### 5/5 — super app

*2015-08-06, version 1.1*

Great app with a lot of options. you can design your own rounds. highly recommended for anyone learning to fight. great shadowbox workouts. Perfect, even if you are just looking for a good cardio workout.

### 5/5 — Best of its Kind

*2014-10-23, version 1.1*

There are a number of boxing-timer style apps on the App Store, but none of them do what this app does. Most of them simply keep track of round times, but don’t allow you to build a customized workout based on your training needs. This app will call out specific techniques for you to practice based on your preferences. You can customize it based on your fighting style and workout goals. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — A very solid product, worth every penny

*2014-03-06, version 1.1*

I bought this app few days ago and I am extremely happy. From other trainer apps available there, this one is absolutely great. What makes it great?
1. Nice, clean and easy to use intuitive interface
2. Highly configurable (although some may think its a minus), but you also have predefined programs. I really like that you can configure more or less defense/offense, more or less body/head shots etc.
3. Big database of techniques to choose from.
4. An awesome option to specify how often a technique can be the lead technique (first one in the combo) and how often it should appear in combo in general.

A few suggestions:
1. Instead of (or in addition to) "lead ..." & "rear ...", add "left …" & "right …"
2. Add few more voices maybe? Try to hire a voice talent to make the voice (which is good already!) sound a little bit more humane
3. Look into making callouts algorithm a little bit more smarter, some of the boxing combos called were a little bit weird, e.g. Cross, Rear Body Hook, Cross, Rear Uppercut. Maybe add an extra logic to randomization algorithm that it should not callout more than two punches on the same side (the example that I provided above consists of four punches with right hand). Having said that, the app is still very awesome and few funny combos should not be something that stops you from buying it.
4. Maybe add a few motivational callouts? Something like "Come on!", "Don't drop your hands!" or "Few seconds left, faster!"

### 5/5 — Took some time to customize

*2014-01-12, version 1.1*

But once I did, this is the best! Thanks for a great app.

### 5/5 — Great App! Responsive Development Team

*2013-12-09, version 1.1*

Fight Trainer is a really well thought out and developed application that provides a variety of options for your training session. I also have a good opinion of the development team as they have been very responsive and very open to addressing questions, comments, and concerns. I have switched from another application as this has better features and supports the iPad format. The app also handles the inclusion of music very well and adjust the audio appropriately so you can still hear the narration.

### 5/5 — Review from a martial arts vet

*2013-11-24, version 1.1*

I have been training for over 23 years and teach over 12 different martial arts styles and I use this app as a staple to my training. More valuable than a training partner shouting out combos due to it being truly random. I use this app an average 5 hours per week and recommend it to all of my students to get them in the habit of "not being in the habit". Also makes a great ring timer for sparring. If you wanna train at weird hours of the night in the comfort of your own home you no longer have to find someone for midnight MIT work.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2013-10-02, version 1.1*

I'm just starting to tap its potential. I'd like to see an "endless combo flow" option, or at least more than maxing out at four, to really get the burn going during my workouts. But still the best trainer I've seen, especially for the martial minded among us. There is no shape like fighting shape!

### 5/5 — Excellent! Best on iTunes by far!

*2013-08-02, version 1.1*

This is my substitution for the Bas Rutten CD's.. however, I've worked with Bas, done many years in Krav, also did boxing and MMA... This is by far the best substitution for the Bas CDs or trainer out on the market today.

[POS] The combinations are perfect and you can slow down or speed up for whatever type of workout you're looking for... unless you're used to hearing someone like Bas scream at you, these combos might not make sense. Learn some of them before you jump in or you might get discouraged early on. Also... this is not an all-round workout mix... this is very similar to a timer with boxing or MMA rounds. You do not have the ability in the vanilla version to schedule sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, etc. You can make it up yourself but I always liked it when trainers screamed out random workouts during rest periods... even if it is shadow boxing.

[CRITIQUE] If there was a way to STOP subduing the volume of music in the background while the combo calls are getting called out, I would be a VERY happy man. During rest periods i have to turn down my volume due to the dubbing. It is so off balanced since I have to REALLY turn up the volume to hear the calls AND hear my music. I think it would be best if there was no dubbing but able to control the volume within the user interface (there is a spot for it but the dubbing negates its value).

[NEG] Does not work when I try to hook up my iPad to the TV... sound does not travel through the TV speakers. Because of the dubbing I have to rely on seeing Combos on the screen sometimes and its a hassle... would rather have music, calls and picture go through TV than my jerry-rigged aux hookup to my speakers.

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2013-02-20, version 1.1*

I've never tried any sort of martial arts or boxing or anything, but this has really for me into it! Plus, I can do it in my living room instead of looking like a dweeb in public :)

### 5/5 — Awsome

*2013-02-03, version 1.0*

Great app need kick combo

### 5/5 — Great app

*2013-02-03, version 1.0*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Virtually useless

*2016-07-25, version 1.1*

Like others have said, app does not work in sleep mode. Virtually useless when trying to listen to music and train at the same time.
Also, the weird robotic "coach" could use an update. You make $5 on every download. You can probably afford to hire a voice actor.
Will hope for updates.

### 1/5 — Don't buy it

*2015-04-07, version 1.1*

The computerized voice commands are difficult to understand and very monotone. Hard to get pumped with that voice. 5 bucks wasted

### 1/5 — Worst ever.

*2015-02-02, version 1.1*

This app doesn't go fast and it doesn't work with my music playing.

Don't spend the money if you know what your doing in kickboxing, you might as well just train yourself with a timer app.

Such a waste of money.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work in sleep mode

*2015-01-16, version 1.1*

It defeats the purpose of having it. I can't keep taking out my phone with gloves on. I need something so I can put away my phone for the duration of my workout

### 2/5 — I love the app but I cannot stand the voice

*2018-05-22, version 1.3*

This has so much great content but I cannot stand the digital computer like voice that tells me what to do for the training.

Equally challenging is that I cannot listen to my music when I run this app. I hear the voice over the music and it drives me crazy.

I absolutely love this app cannot stand the voice. If it was something even remotely human, that would help a lot. Change that and I will definitely give you five stars. Thank you for all your hard work and I look forward to updated versions

### 3/5 — THE VOICE

*2019-06-06, version 1.3*

The content is pretty good, and the functionality is pretty easy too. But the computerized voice is difficult to listen to, especially when it starts spitting out combo’s it gets a bit difficult to distinguish the moves it is directing you to do. To the app publisher... PLEASE just record a real person! I would change to 5 stars if you did.

### 3/5 — Great app for shadow boxing

*2018-08-11, version 1.3*

This a great app for shadow boxing but I wish it had the ability to allow you to practice techniques as well.

### 4/5 — Great app!

*2015-12-09, version 1.1*

I really love this app, but wish it worked better with pandora. Would also love to be able to save and share workouts with other users.

### 4/5 — New voice!!!

*2015-01-01, version 1.1*

Change the voice to a HUman Voice

### 4/5 — Cool app.

*2012-12-09, version 1.0*

Like the app, but could use possibly a few adjustments. One of them being you should be able to change from saying lead and rear to saying left or right when boxing and kicking. Another cool feature you could add would be to change up the voice or vocal patterns on the announcer, so it sounds less robotic.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Must have for combat lovers

*2021-10-28, version 1.3*

Look up the proper form and get moving!!
The tempo slider bar(from tortoise to hare) is amazing for slowing it all down to focus on form and devious for pumping up the speed of orders to get your body and heart moving.
Customization is king and this app wears the crown proudly.
Well done! Cheers!

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2020-07-19, version 1.3*

Not sure if this app has gotten any updates or support, but I’ve had it for a long time and love the customizability, really if there have been changes they are small and maybe just improvements that I don’t notice, but the app came preloaded with tons of workouts and tons of techniques.
One knit pick, when using music and app, it lowers both music and app volume, I tend to play music on something else/deferent device, if I’m doing a long workout and make sure this app is calling queues on a loud enough speak. With that said, with or without headphones the robot voice is easy enough to understand, but it is a robot and I have not found a way to change the voice.
I would even buy additional voices, I would love Darth Vader or Mr. T helping me keep up with my workouts.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2019-01-04, version 1.3*

Amazing app I just wish the music in the background wouldn’t lower

### 5/5 — Awesome and customisable

*2018-11-14, version 1.3*

I’ve really loved using Fight Trainer. All rounds and workouts are fully customisable. I’ve built loads of different workouts based on time or intensity and keep refining them to change it up. By far the best boxing companion app.

### 5/5 — Great App worth a try.

*2018-08-18, version 1.3*

I’ve been using this app for along time, by far it’s the best app to use if you want to have a good workout , just be told what strikes to throw. Speed at which strikes are called is adjustable. Some reviews complain about robotic voice, honestly you get use to it. I can listen to Spotify while I’m using this app. I hope the developers keep the App up to date, well worth it.

### 5/5 — AMAZING workout and training App!

*2018-02-23, version 1.3*

This App is brilliant for anyone who trains solo. It is so customizable that you can literally apply it to any type of workout. I’ve been using it for about a year on heavy bag workouts just to stay in shape but I wish I’d had this App back when I trained in karate. I LOVE this App!

### 5/5 — Great work out.

*2018-02-03, version 1.3*

Would like to see a method of programming own combos or a list of preset combos that you can add in and have called out during course of round (ie: 1, 2, rear round kick / 1, 2, front round kick, front round kick / 1, 1, 2, front Elbow, rear knee). If this already exists my apologies.

### 5/5 — Try it

*2017-12-08, version 1.3*

Best app ever... I'm writing this after a great workout. I've been using it for years. It never gets boring.

### 5/5 — Does what it says

*2017-11-09, version 1.3*

That is all you can ask for in these apps

### 5/5 — Skip the gym membership and get this app!!!

*2017-10-03, version 1.3*

I had a free week at LA kick boxing club. I was hooked, but did not want to pay the price. I found this app and I promptly went out and bought my own bag and gloves and have been using this app for about three years!
