### 3/5 — Good but…

*2025-03-31*

Very good, the only problem is that there is no language option

### 3/5 — Good, almost great

*2024-09-30*

The best parts of this experience is how it evokes the feeling of the original books. But that’s also probably it’s biggest drawback, too. Flipping pages is interesting to start, but grows tedious over time when I’m used to simply scrolling my text like I’ve done everywhere else for years. The stat sheet is interesting, but to have to “pull it out” to see more items like inventory took a while to figure out. Thankfully, the app does offer some interesting items like auto-map generation that you’d otherwise have to do manually. Having to create your character through the intro pages of the book is slow and unintuitive, probably best broken out into its own “character creation” screen per book. And I’m kinda shocked that the app doesn’t have ANY achievements, which take advantage of the digital format. Ex: Make it through a book successfully, unlock an alternate cover image. Make it through a book without rerolling your character, unlock new flair for you avatar. There’s a deep well here to draw from. The thing is I get that nostalgia and intricacy can make for a compelling download, but to have me coming back to look for new books to buy means I have to really enjoy the experience, and there are just a lot of modern niceties that a digital device allows for that this app doesn’t take advantage of, relying mostly on the “how can we make this look like a teenager trying to play this on their overcrowded desk in their room at home.” Which has its place, don’t get me wrong. I just wish there was a more modern mode too.

### 4/5 — Slow Updates

*2024-03-03*

The way the books feel in the app is pure nostalgia. They practically drip the 80’s. They are, in short, awesome. However, the updates are very slow. As of writing this, it has been over a year since the last update was made and the last books added. I don’t know if this means that these are all the books were going to get, or if things are just going slowly, but be aware of this. Either way, the app is worth getting.

### 3/5 — Good but no option to clear map

*2023-11-21, version 1.451*

Great nostalgia trip and looking forward to more books to be included like Scorpion Swamp and Midnight Rogue. My only gripe is that there doesn’t appear to be an option for clearing the map of a book you have already read so either myself or a family member can have a fresh adventure.

### 2/5 — Cannot buy books

*2023-06-13, version 1.451*

No matter what I do, the app will not let me purchase new game books. Whenever I try, I get an error telling me to connect to the internet first. I’m on my home wireless which makes no sense…

### 4/5 — Thank goodness for the free play mode

*2023-05-18*

Firstly, I wish to express condolences to the app makers and the community for the recent passing of Russ Nicholson. His illustrations helped practically define the fighting fantasy books with his vibrant and captivating images, both capturing the grimness of the fantasy world depicted as well as illustrating the worlds the player was launched in crystal clear detail.

Onto the app itself- I enjoy the series very much having recently brought a few copies and played through them. I don’t have the time or energy to scribble and write down stats these days, and so I’m glad that on the app, there is the free read mode that lets you re-roll, as well as the jostling dice physics to keep flipping over the dice until you reach the number you want. Sometimes I just want to see what happens in the story and not be screwed just because I didn’t have the one item I needed because I turned left instead of right at a junction and so forth. That would be the only downside to the gamebooks I say.

I see that the app is updating with more releases and so I have one request, or two- could you add howl of the werewolf and sword of the samurai? Sword of the samurai is the only book I ever completed properly, and howl of the werewolf is no longer in print and is so rare and expensively sold by second hand price gougers that I can’t get a hold of it.

Otherwise, a very enjoyable app and good fun. An unexpected treat brought to my attention thanks to the group on Facebook.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t start

*2023-05-04*

Im giving this two stasrrs because of the nice startup screen. Unfortunately that’s what all I’ve seen of it so far. The screen comes up and there’s appropriate background sounds but nothing happens- if tappes, swioed, aind drugged every spot on the screen and I got nowhere. I waited an hour for the app to load but but it didn’t. It might be good, but I certainly wouldn’t know.

### 3/5 — Fighting fantasy

*2023-01-06, version 1.443*

I loved these books as a kid. They are great to relive. Would have given five stars except they have only 14 books. Why not upload some more books?

### 3/5 — Gold in Warlock of Firetop Mountain

*2022-12-09*

I love the presentation in FF Classics of the books. Like others I'm was a disappointed that I've had to rebuy individual titles bcos previous near-identical apps no longer run. I was playing Warlock of Firetop Mountain live on stream and there seemed to have a problem with the gold pieces not being recorded on the sheet or in memory, thus taking away all options to use gold within the game - frustrating and game breaking (when playing medium Adventurer difficulty where options are controlled). Please fix this! ( iOS 15.7.1 iPad Pro)

### 3/5 — Crash after dice roll

*2022-12-04, version 1.443*

There’s an unfortunate crash that’s possible any time the dice are rolled on screen. The game saves often, but it does make it a bit frustrating to get through.

### 4/5 — Well done

*2022-06-06*

Nice experience on the iPad! It would be great if the Character & Knowledge Sheets and Fight Controls could be set to the left side of the screen (for the lefties). Also an iCloud sync for the bookmarks/game saves would be nice to pick up a game on a different device.

### 4/5 — More soundtrack options

*2022-05-20*

I would like more soundtrack options. Maybe one that fits into bustling markets or cities would be good, or something with ocean sounds for seafaring portions. Overall though I’m loving this app!

### 4/5 — Great

*2022-05-12, version 1.440*

Great app - and wonderful to have these books on the go.
But..... so...... slow..... to update with new books: still missing numbers 4 and 8 out of the first ten for a start, and the app has been out for years......

### 5/5 — Childhood excitement and memories relived!

*2022-04-25, version 1.431*

Fantastic interface and content.
I read them with my two kids, who always like ‘you must fight!’

### 5/5 — Great entry into game books

*2022-04-24, version 1.431*

I absolutely love this app! The books are all well priced and work really well and smoothly with the built in dice roller

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Purchases are temporary?

*2025-03-02*

Purchased house of hell. Played it. Went to play it an hour later, but I had to repurchase? It’s going to cost money every time I play? Too expensive!!!

### 1/5 — App won’t load

*2025-02-27, version 2.006*

This app won’t get past the loading screen.

### 1/5 — Poorly executed

*2024-06-05*

Full of bugs, poorly developed.
Does not serve well the original books and clunky to use.
Better to purchase either the real ones or the epub format.

### 1/5 — Never loads…

*2024-03-02, version 1.451*

Frozen on the opening load screen indefinitely…

### 1/5 — Fix the glitch

*2023-06-18, version 1.451*

This would have more stars if I constantly wasn’t kicked out of the game. When I’m rolling the dice for a battle it kicks me out and I can’t keep going. If this is fixed the game would be so much more better.

### 1/5 — Won’t load

*2021-09-27, version 1.431*

Just spent 20 minutes trying to load up the game after downloading it, not impressed as I remember the books were quite fun. Shame

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work.

*2021-07-20, version 1.428*

Been waiting for over 5 minutes for it to load.

### 1/5 — Boo!

*2021-04-13, version 1.41*

No fun!

### 1/5 — Accessibility?

*2020-11-25, version 1.41*

There is really no reason whatsoever for a simple game book app to not be accessible with voiceover. The fact that this one isn’t is shameful. I suggest that if anyone is looking for well done and inclusive game book provider they should instead take a look at choice of games, who are clearly superior.

### 1/5 — Not free

*2020-10-19, version 1.41*

Booklets for purchase....and waaaay over-valued

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Starship Traveller

*2025-08-30, version 2.017*

Really enjoying this app. There are some icon display issues and typos for Starship Traveller.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-03-27*

Brings me back to my childhood years. Wish it was easier to retrace your steps, miss one thing and it is the end. Still stuck in the maze in the Warlock of Firetop Mountain.

### 5/5 — Nostalgia Heaven - New Comer’s Delight

*2024-12-28*

I remember these back in the day. I loved mine. Only had a couple but went through them endlessly. When I got older and had kids, bought a couple for my son. He tried them but lost interest quick as it just didn’t hold his attention like modern gaming. That was about 10 years ago.
Fast forward to present day. Cleaning out his nightstand and found the “Citadel of Chaos”. Picked up and started playing/reading again. Still loved it. Looking for an easy/modern “Adventure sheet” thinking that surely with todays tech there has got to be something automated out there. Did a web search, found a few things, then searched the App Store….WOW….JACKPOT!!!
My friends….let me tell you, if you ever had ANY small inkling with these books in the past then this app is a no brainer. If you were even remotely curious about these books then there is no better way to get started than this app. If you are a new comer looking for an old school narrative adventure. Then I am delighted to tell you…your search is over.
This app has done this experience perfect. PERFECT!!! It is so awesome. Old school feel with all the convenience of modern tech. Bravo to the developers, they couldn’t have done no better. So many cool little touches like atmospheric background music and effects to smooth old school dice combat with a modern touch. Works perfectly. Adventure sheet is lit!! So Awesome! Bookmarks to save your progress. They thought of everything!!
Comes with one free adventure, and the books of the past can be purchased for 2.99 a piece! A steal!!! Bought Citadel of Chaos straight away and started my adventure. The developer has successfully created the experience I had as when I first played as a kid. So awesome. Thank you for that.
Friends…do not hesitate, do not doubt. Download now and let the adventure begin!!!

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2024-10-03, version 1.470*

Love this compilation of classic fighting fantasy books. Only wish is that it would be updated more. Have nearly 60 FF books available. Wish we had many more of the earlier books in this app

### 5/5 — Translation

*2024-06-11*

Fantastic app but it will be very nice to have localized version. I’m French and I miss the translation. I bought several books and I hope for free update.

### 5/5 — Superb

*2023-12-03, version 1.451*

I had these in the 1980s as a kid and not only re-lived the excitement (and frustrations) but so great they kept the original top notch illustrations! Excellent job

### 5/5 — Childhood nostalgia

*2023-07-18*

I grew up on these books. Being able to play them on mobile is a blast of nostalgia. And the extra features like maps and collectible artwork are a great extra touch.

### 5/5 — Fighting Fantasy Collection

*2022-10-25*

I love these gamebooks when I was younger first editions (showing my age) and then finding out you can download them on to your iPhone was like heaven. I have purchased some single books on here and still have them but some have been taken off the Tin Man Games list. My question is will there be more games added to the classics collection?

### 5/5 — Good app

*2022-08-14, version 1.441*

Great app. Please add "demons of the deep", it was my favorite.

### 5/5 — At last

*2022-05-23, version 1.441*

Finally conquered
