### 5/5 — Should be renamed Hard as Hell

*2013-10-19*

If you ever read the book or a large number of FF books you will know House of Hell is either the hardest or second hardest of them all! (Next to Creature of Havoc). Anyway the app stays true to the source material and it's virtually impossible to best without cheating.

Like all books you have skill, stamina and luck but this one has a FEAR stat. You roll a die and add 6. That is how much you can get scared before you get scared to death. If you play the game through the perfect path you still get a FEAR score of 12. So even if you roll a 6 and get a max of 12 you are still gonna get scared to death. It has to be some kind of mistake.

Anyway the Sorcery series made by Inkle has amazing graphics and animations. It's let's you choose between being male or female and has better sound. If Tinmangames can take some aspects from Sorcery it could really make some good future versions of FF books.

One final note...$5 is to much. It should only be $3 or it should discount other Tinmangames as you buy more of them.

### 5/5 — Quel plaisir

*2013-07-27*

### 5/5 — A blast of nostalgia

*2013-07-08*

I'd read this as a child, some 30 years ago, and was looking for the books for my son. Hadn't thought of them as iPad apps, but they're even better than the books, as they do the dice rolling, and eliminate my uncanny ability to roll double six every time when I was reading the books! It was great to re-read this with my son, who was enthralled by the interactive roll-playing in the story. I think it's inspired him in a whole new genre, so that was well worth the money. Can't wait to read the next one!

### 5/5 — Quality

*2013-06-17*

This was the first book I read of the fighting fantasy and the translation is perfect. Additional bonus of the French as well. This is great and a real blast from the past.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2013-06-16*

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2013-05-29*

Great that the books I loved as a kid have been adapted for iOS, dice rolling and character points all simply recorded by the excellent interface. The book itself is quite challenging and I'm nowhere near completing it! Recommended.

### 4/5 — Hell of a Game!

*2013-05-20*

It is nostalgic bliss to witness the most welcome return of Fighting Fantasy. House of Hell is a brute of a challenge with an encapsulating storyline too; your fear being ever present. The revamped illustrations are wonderfully rendered; furthermore, the inclusion of a devilish series of fun achievements add to this 'original' RPG experience. Also, there is something deeply satisfying about rolling dice on a game engine.
My main objection is the lack of an all essential progress map makes it hard to govern your location within the house, especially when restarting a quest. Also, could there be a little more elaboration from the books 'instant death' dead-ends. In true FF fashion, these moments can sometimes be a little annoyingly random and offer the player no second chance of survival.
That said, this iPhone experience has whisked me back to the hazy days of childhood. I was delighted to read the legendary 'Steve Jackson's' history of FF introduction. More please!

### 5/5 — Nostalgia

*2013-05-17*

This brought back a lot of memories. I felt the story was immersive enough, the music set the mood (even though it sounds suspiciously like the Halloween film theme), and I love how all the stat tracking is automated. No regrets at all for buying this.

Hoping for more to come!

### 5/5 — WOW

*2013-05-09*

Oh Wow! What a awesome way to bring me back to the past! My only warning is this book is hard, very hard, so if u r looking for a challenge it us for you! Or just get it for old times sake! As good as the original with a fitting soundtrack and edited artwork!

### 4/5 — Très sympa

*2013-04-20*

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Pas de signets

*2016-08-13*

### 1/5 — Crashes out!

*2014-08-29*

Would give this a 5 star rating as I used to love this book when I was younger and the app worked perfect! Now on my iPhone 4S it just shuts down everytime I try to continue! Please sort it as it is a great app

### 2/5 — Ou sont les signets?

*2018-03-06*

### 2/5 — Crash Bang

*2013-07-16*

House Of Hell is a classic. I will reserve this review for later. My app now crashes after updating the information within the app. I press play and crash, back to the desk top. Please fix this and I will re review this classic, sadly unplayable title.

### 2/5 — comment c

*2013-06-16*

### 3/5 — Demoralizing, pitiless...

*2015-12-03*

Screw you- This is an exercise in masochism and self loath. No way out. Does our hero have any recourse? I'll give a few stars more if the there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Well done. I'll look up my grimoires and tomes to see if I can keep track of such juvenile interpretation of dangerous names.

### 3/5 — Super, mais en anglais seulement???

*2013-04-16*

### 4/5 — Great, but needs proof reading

*2013-07-13*

This is a great game. However, the enjoyment is spoilt by the many mistakes in the text. I hope this will be rectified in future updates.

Un vrai plaisir !

### 5/5 — The best Fighting Fantasy app

*2015-04-21*

I have very fond memories of playing House of Hell back in the day, so the chance to replay it as a shiny app adaptation all these years later was an opportunity not to miss. Happily, this game book is still as fun and challenging as it ever was.

The plot is simple and a common horror set up: you are caught out in a storm when your car breaks down and your only refuge is a creepy isolated manor. With that out of the way you are flung into a series of encounters with various Hammer Horror creatures before the finale turns into something vaguely reminiscent of Dario Argento's Suspiria. It is very atmospheric and the art and soundtrack further improve immersion.

There is a fairly narrow path to final victory, but the house has a lot to discover along the way, both on and off the optimal routes, making finding all the necessary secret passwords and hidden rooms good fun. You will become quite familiar with all the rooms if you plan to finish and some effort at mapping is recommended - it would have been nice if this was built in as it has been for a few subsequent Tin Man apps.

This is probably the best Fighting Fantasy title which Tin Man have adapted so far and is one of the best in the entire series. Their app does a great service to the book, with a fantastic looking and responsive interface and plenty of options to customise the experience. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — I skarded :-(

*2014-09-01*

Reputed to be the hardest FF game books and I agree. I never won as a kid and still not yet.

### 5/5 — House of Hell

*2014-07-08*

One of my all time favourite Fighting Fantasys excellent adaption on the Tablet :)

### 5/5 — Que de souvenir

*2014-03-27*

### 5/5 — Great fun, but hard!

*2014-02-13*

Great recreation of the fighting fantasy book, and also really difficult. I read most people need to cheat or go online to find their way through.

The secret to winning is to write down maps and keep lots of notes on a piece of paper. After numerous attempts, the path will become clear and you will be able to win in hardcore mode. Yes, it is a huge puzzle, but one that can be solved after a few days of play.

I am looking forward to all other games by tin man games

### 5/5 — Great!

*2014-01-14*

Was a great game book now a great mobile game. Great presentation and execution although Forest of Doom has an intro sequence. Although a small gripe this is just fabulous and more atmospheric than the books.

### 5/5 — Geniales Konzept

*2013-12-07*

Frissons garantis !
