## What is Filament Swatches?

FilamentSwatches is an app that allows you to manage and store your different 3D Printing filament colors.
In addition, you can use the app on iPhones with an NFC chip to read from and write the swatches to NDEF-compliant NFC tags that you can then stick onto your physical printed filament samples.
This allows you to form a digital link between your physical samples and information about the filament that was used to print them.

The app encodes the filament information as a URL that is saved onto the NFC tag. This way, any NFC reader can be used to view the information saved on the tag.

Personally, I use the app together with 25mm NTAG215 black NFC tags that I stick on 3D printed mini filament spools.

die Idee der App ist es selbst NFC Tags zu schreiben und diese wieder auslesen zu können. Das Auslesen von den NFC Tags auf den Filament-Rollen der Hersteller ist bisher kein Feature, werde ich aber auf meine Liste aufnehmen.

Eigentlich wäre die App perfekt für meine Zwecke. Aber das Schreiben von NFC Tags funktioniert nicht. Ich bekomme immer die Meldung das der Speicher auf dem NFC Tag nicht reicht. Ich habe schon einige ausprobiert und alle waren leer. Oder ging es hier eine Lösung?

Not many apps to take inventory of your filament so was happy to find this one. However most of my spools don’t have a tag and I can’t enter it manually. When you try to save a custom under material there’s nothing to pick and won’t let you save. Would be great if it wasn’t just a nfc tag maker and you could scan the qr on most filaments or at least put them in manually. Other then that the app is clean non cluttered and has a lot of potential.

thank you for your review! You can create a new material type in the „Materials“ tab. After that, the material picker will show it when creating a new filament. I should probably add some info text or create a few default materials to make this more clear.

The idea of the app is to create your materials in the app, so you can write the information onto generic NFC tags. You could then stick these NFC tags onto filament samples of the corresponding material. At least that was the original use case I developed it for.

### 5/5 — Nice app. Just what I was looking for. A few suggestions.

A few suggestions to make this app even more useful.
1. Give an option to search
2. Give option to group by color/brand or any attribute.
3. Would be great to have an option to add custom attributes to filament. If that is too complicated, having a “notes” attribute will do for now.
4. Make this app open source if not already so others can contribute. I know iOS too :).
5. Add iCloud syncing so swatches are stored across all my devices.
6. Give option to export everything to an excel/svg sheet. Import option would be a bonus too.
7. You made this app very good, please add more functionalities. Having some form of discord server will help share more info.

Regarding the source code, it is already available on my GitHub under https://github.com/iComputerfreak/FilamentSwatchesApp.

Feel free to open a pull request if you want to contribute :)
Keep in minid though, that I started this app when I was still a student so there is no real architecture behind it right now.

I am not sure if a Discord server for only us two would make sense at this point, but if you are interested in contributing, feel free to reach out to me at dev@jonasfrey.de and we can exchange Discord usernames :)
