The Linux desktop app works well for me so far, but I haven't been able to use the iOS app here successfully at all. My first real use case (and reason for signing up) is to share large video files (for example, a much longer than necessary elementary school musical), beyond what Ente supports. But attempting to do literally anything with the files mov files uploaded from Linux results in either a hang or a crash. I hope this isn't the rewrite that I've seen discussed in places. I guess I can look forward to that. ### 2/5 — Needs some work *2026-04-23, version 3.0.35* I love what this app can do. I also love that it’s based in the EU, however, the UI is very buggy, especially if you rotate from portrait to landscape on an iPad. Sometimes the sorting options menu doesn’t open either. Despite having an account set up page, you cannot sign up using the app. You have to do it online. I tried to on the app for like 20 minutes. ### 3/5 — Notes 😭 *2026-02-24, version 3.0.35* I decided to move my Apple Notes to Filen, and it was an absolute nightmare. At first, I thought everything went great and smoothly, but soon I found out that I hadn’t transferred anything at all, because everything either disappeared for an unknown reason or simply wasn’t saved. I also noticed an interesting “feature”: when you change the note type (for example, from plain text to rich text) while you already have some text in it, the text just disappears. Don’t get me wrong — I really like the app, and I can see you have some really good and convenient ideas, like Notes and Music, for instance, but the implementation is really not good enough to use those features. The biometric login feels like a step backward with the new prompt, load times feel longer with the app’s lock features having a delayed load when the app is brought into focus from inactivity, and QoL features such as gallery navigation have seemingly gone away. ### 4/5 — Something Different *2025-10-26, version 3.0.28* I’ve been looking for a Mega replacement for a while now and finally, Filen could be the one. I like the clean UI both on IOS , Web and Desktop, it even has a Linux client. It might not be the most feature rich in its current state, but it gets the basics right and the team are rapidly improving the service, not to mention the customer service team have been swift and dealt with the few bugs I’ve encountered. I’ve gone ahead and purchased the 100GB Lifetime starter option while it still lasts. Please introduce a proper shared folder system like Dropbox and Google Drive and I will happily migrate all my data over. ### 4/5 — awesome *2025-09-14, version 2.0.73* great and affordable, one thing i’d love to see is the ability to map different albums to different folders with camera upload ### 3/5 — It’s good enough for me, but annoying *2025-08-25, version 2.0.73* On desktop, the app works pretty great - however the IOS app has a couple of weird bugs and overall design issues that have not been resolved since I started using it about 2 years ago. Sometimes uploading files from the camera roll will just straight up not work or throw an error, more often with larger files, super annoying. Also thumbnails just don’t work correctly for videos, half of the videos in my drive just don’t have thumbnails. You also can’t open audio files within the app. Only reason I’m still using this service is because I did the one time payment for 100GB, which was a steal, even with all these issues, though it doesn’t seem like they offer this anymore. ### 4/5 — Happy so Far *2025-06-20, version 2.0.73* Have been looking for a OneDrive alternative that just syncs specific folders between laptop and cloud, gives me access on my phone to what I need, and is e2e encrypted. There are some bugs and some parts are clunky, but these are skin deep complaints, I really like what you're doing and will hopefully be migrating to Filen over the next year. The uploading is also very slow when it does work. completely regret signing up for this ### 1/5 — Crashing *2025-11-17, version 3.0.34* The app crashes when you try to upload stuff with the current few versions of IOS. This is making it very very difficult to upload my photos and videos I pay filen to host. This is shaping my opinion of this company. I’ve tried different settings, networks, etc. It just crashes whenever accessing photos from my albums after a like 20 seconds. So even if I select photos to upload and it starts uploading it’ll crash. I’m having to keep re-opening the app over and over and over to get a few photos to actually go through. I’ve restarted over 60 times trying to get some vacation photos up as it uploads like 1 photo per crash. I have full access to my photos in my settings, my phone and the app are fully up to date, I’ve done more troubleshooting than I probably should have. Please fix this broken application. ### 1/5 — Was good until the latest update *2025-10-25, version 3.0.27* The app worked fine until the latest update. The previous version has a feature where you could only upload photos from the phone that were taken after the upload feature was available. The latest update broke that. It automatically disabled photo upload and if I enable it, the app starts uploading all the photos not just the recent ones. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2025-10-13, version 2.0.73* I made the mistake of trying to use Filen to transfer my files from my old google drive and back up my apple photos. Huge mistake. I’ve basically lost all my google photos - nothing is there except empty folders. Also, Filen stopped backing up the iPhotos last February. And it claims I haven’t taken any pictures since. Not so much. It’s not a storage issue as I’m only using 10% of what I paid for. Support wasn’t helpful for the iPhone backups. It’s not like I can do much about the destroy google photos. ### 1/5 — Constantly deleting my data *2025-07-27, version 2.0.73* If you are storing top secret files like nuclear launch code, this is for you. They delete ALL your data every couple months, the recovery keys do not work, and there is no autofill for the password. If all you want to save is important pictures that you don’t need to see everyday but would be sad to lose, this app deserves 0 stars. I don’t need this kind of hassle to try to see photos or videos. This will be the second time everything I uploaded is being deleted. Customer service is useless because everything is automated so they cannot stop it or find any of your info. If you have photos that you probably should be deleting anyways cause you don’t want other people to see them, sure this is a useful app. But my cat pictures are not going to cause a major security breach or cause me any harm if this data was leaked. I will use Facebook to store my pictures from here on out. I obviously won't be doing anything else with Filen since my main reason for using it is to upload videos. ### 1/5 — Unfortunately broken *2025-04-22, version 2.0.73* Really wanted to like this based on the design principles but it’s frankly unusable. For starters, can’t upload pictures, whatsoever — (latest iOS version) any attempts results in “media not found” message when selecting images. I’ve given it a chance many times but It’s been like this for months despite app updates and full OS reinstall. Cannot upload even a single image from photos. Really? Manually uploading a PDF from files works, mercifully; but trying to share public link (the whole use case I have ) ..fails to do anything . The toggle switch just… does nothing.. really? Unfortunately utterly unusable and easily the worst out of the storage providers apps I’ve used. Have had to delete. Sorry about the bad review guys but just being honest. This shouldn’t be on the app store if barr minimum functionality doesn’t work . I found Filen after shutting down my iCloud that was spamming me by Apple. Do you need a way to backup your iphone photos without paying thousands of dollars to a multi-trillion dollar company? This cloud service makes a great backup option! Great customer service too, I had reached out more than once and the kind people there were quick and efficient at getting my issues resolved quickly. I highly recommend this. With my data safe and encrypted it’s a winner for me, I’ll will certainly take a subscription out. Technical support was fast and helpful within 24 hours.
