### 3/5 — Black and white??

*2023-12-30, version 6.0*

I feel like I must be missing something....how do you scan black and white film??? Is there someplace to change it from color to black and white? If so I keep missing it

### 3/5 — Disappointing

*2023-01-21, version 5.9.2*

It does convert the negative into a photographic image but the quality is too poor to use for anything. I’ve given it 3 stars because it did allow me to view the image in colour but I was asked to pay extra to use the functions that would adjust the quality of the image. Unfortunately, even with this function, the photograph wasn’t great. Perhaps I need a stronger light box behind the negative.

### 2/5 — Low quality image; not worth it

*2021-01-31, version 5.9.1*

Nothing like having a normal print made of your negative. Sorry.

### 3/5 — It was good

*2020-10-13, version 5.7*

I loved this app, but it’s been kinda crap since the last update. The scans come out completely off colour now. At first I thought it was something wrong with my camera or chemistry, but nope. The app got screwed up. I would suggest buying if only the old version was available.

### 3/5 — Crashes on Save

*2020-09-01, version 5.6*

Nach dem Update stürzt die App ab, sobald man alles fertig hat und man Save drückt!

### 2/5 — OK, but it really crushes the blacks

*2020-06-04, version 5.5*

So I was kind of hoping it would just invert the image, but it seems to also push the black point, and I lose a lot of information in the shadows.

Playing with the exposure and contrast sliders doesn’t seem to do much to fix this. This was an issue before the last update, but now it seems to have gotten even worse.

Why can’t it just be an invert effect? Why did it have to push the contrast and clip the shadows so much?

If I’m missing something, I’ll take down this review, but this is a serious problem with the app as far as I can tell. Otherwise, I do like the interface and overall design.

### 2/5 — Not worth the download

*2019-12-28, version 5.2*

Terrible quality and the camera function does not work. But it can process images from photos.

### 3/5 — Black and white

*2019-11-18, version 5.2*

I downloaded this app but I don’t know how to cases the black and white setting for black and white film

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2019-10-30, version 5.2*

Old 1940-50’s B&W negatives and more modern colour negatives brought to life easily and clearly ready to get rid of scratches on computer. A joy to use.

### 5/5 — so cool app

*2019-10-29, version 5.2*

thank you for traveling to the past!

### 3/5 — Add exposure option.

*2019-10-06, version 5*

Can you also add an exposure option?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Film scanner pro

*2025-12-23, version 7.0*

Rubbish. It does nothing other than save a negative to the camera roll. Unless you want to pay to change it to a colour photo. And there’s no mention of them when you download the app. Scammers!

### 1/5 — Used to be perfect, but...

*2021-05-11, version 5.9.1*

This app used to be my go-to for inverting the colors of pictures I took of my film negatives with my DSLR. Even though the colors used to have a slight red tinge to them that might have been user error but that’s besides the point as it was always workable.

Now though, the images seem to export in a much lower resolution to the point the exported images are hardly usable. If the developer is able to fix this I will gladly revoke this review as there are very few free alternatives for this type of thing. The way I’ve been using since this app has begun this issue has been a royal pain.

### 1/5 — What am I doing wrong?

*2021-05-06, version 5.9.1*

Other reviewers seem impressed with the results. I put negatives on a pure white screen on my iPad and shoot them with the app on my iPhone. The resulting images look like low res garbage. Is there a step I’m missing? Something I’m not doing correctly? So far… bleah. I really want to like it.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work.

*2021-03-04, version 5.9.1*

Tried it with medium format frames. Kodak Portra. It literally doesn’t work at all - just turns everything blue.

### 1/5 — Data protection issue

*2021-02-14, version 5.9.1*

Why shall give access to all my pics before being able to use the app. This is not in compliance with the data protection statement attached to the app. It says that I can use the functionality no matter whether I grant access. Could you please explain?

### 1/5 — Can’t save!

*2020-09-10, version 5.6*

I got this and am bummed out because I can’t save any of the images! I have iPad with iOS 13. I hit save and it blinks out of the app, no pics saved. Boooo

### 1/5 — This used to be useful

*2020-06-24, version 5.5*

Newest update is useless (iPhone XR). Black and white images are insanely contrasty and not even worth the bother. What happened? This used to be my go-to for quick viewing negs in sleeves and sharing quick snaps with family and friends.

I’ve recommended this app to others in the past but not anymore.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work by using your camera

*2020-05-31, version 5.5*

Using your camera to take a photo doesn’t work. There’s too much reflection

### 1/5 — Very bad

*2020-04-09, version 5.3.2*

Taking only a screen shot when you save. Waste of time.

### 1/5 — Ohne Funktion.

*2018-08-31, version 1.1*

iPhone SE... leider ohne Funktion... fix?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — То, что надо!

### 5/5 — bessere fotoqualität als andere apps

*2021-09-16, version 5.9.1*

bessere fotoqualitāt als andere apps, ich wenutze es für Arbeit

### 5/5 — Such an amazing app

*2021-03-21, version 5.9.1*

After trying some other apps they didn’t work at all I was so excited when this one finally worked.
It’s easy to use and so straight forward. Its really quick and simple.
I could finally see what the films looked like.
I really recommend.

### 5/5 — It’s ok at best.

*2020-11-29, version 5.7*

I appreciate the tool for existing first and foremost, hence 5 stars. The FilmLab app is great, very limited, but it scans my negatives fantastically. The only issues, I can’t import photos to invert, so I downloaded this app that I’m reviewing, so I could invert scans that I transferred from my camera to my phone via WiFi transfer in the hopes of a higher quality scan.

So far the 5 negatives I’ve imported are a deep Cyan color and no matter how much I play with the sliders, it does no good. The options and functions of the slide editors need improvement, the built in inverting format needs tweaking. The usability of the app itself is great. Very simple. If only the actual color science was good, this would be my favorite app ever.

### 5/5 — Exzellente App

*2020-10-09, version 5.7*

Sehr nützlich!!!

### 5/5 — Best!!

*2020-07-30, version 5.5*

Just like me if you found some Photo Negatives at home and decided to use your iPhone which photos are in there, then this app can help.

I tried using multiple apps over the AppStore and many good ones required paid membership and still their quality was poor. This app is great considering the fact that it is free.

For background source, I am using another iPhone. Open up a picture with completely white background. Put the negative on the screen and take pic with this app. Then convert to see the magic. Best wishes.

### 5/5 — Excelente

*2020-06-03, version 5.5*

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-04-15, version 5.3.3*

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2020-02-10, version 5.3.1*
