## What is FilmMate?

As a film photography enthusiast, I want metering that is simple, reliable, and truly on the film camera’s side—not another digital workflow to learn, but a way to get aperture, shutter, and film speed sorted before I press the shutter. That is what FilmMate is for.

FilmMate uses the iPhone’s rear camera for real-time metering, calculates EV100, and shows whether the exposure is normal, overexposed, or underexposed. It supports average, center-weighted, and spot metering; tap the preview to move the metering point. When you need time to compose, you can lock the reading.

Expose the way you shoot: aperture priority, shutter priority, or manual. It supports ±3 EV exposure compensation, 0–10 stops of ND, and focal-length assistance. Suggested shutters respect the shutter range of the bodies you add, so recommendations stay within what your camera can actually do.

Add your go-to film cameras and stocks to a list and switch them from the meter in one tap; ISO can follow the film currently in use. A Sunny 16 reference helps you check classic daylight scenes—sunny, cloudy, shade, and more.

Metering stays on device; metering frames are never uploaded. No account, no ads, no behavioral analytics. Phone metering depends on the device and conditions, so results are a guide only—not a substitute for a dedicated light meter. But when you head out with a roll in your pocket, it is the handy square you will reach for.
