### 2/5 — Bad Display

*2025-09-24, version 1.0.3*

The display settings are not right for the newer iPhones. If you’re on any phone after 8 don’t bother buying.

### 3/5 — Super Technik, Lokalisierung fehlt

*2025-09-21*

### 4/5 — A Little Different

*2024-09-24*

Cheesy guitar music? Check! Avatars that look like marionettes? Check! Elements from FF1, FF4, and Chrono Trigger? Check! A god named Bastardo? Check . . . But I mean, that one’s a bit much. This one is fun. While it’s an improvement on FFD1, what it loses is much resemblance to typical FF game play. The gâcha feel to this game gets redundant at times, with all action scrolling from right to left. The first part is still a lot of fun, while the second part tacked on at the end is mostly visual novel and very little video game.

### 4/5 — Wait for the ending

*2024-03-29*

A very loooonngggg and drawn out game, you fell like you’ve completed it 100 times but then it’s somthing else… but the ending, if you can push through, is brilliant. Good RPG :)

### 2/5 — Fun but held back by its gacha past

*2024-01-19*

This game is enjoyable enough for what it is, and despite the gacha origins there's little grinding to be found, but sadly it just isn't very substantial.

The story is haphazardly thrown together with you often being sent to random spots for no other reason than they were the last places mentioned in a conversation. The gameplay is pretty simple and will be very unlikely to present a challenge until several hours in.

My biggest gripe with the game is probably the art style, which more resembles some generic cookie cutter jrpg gacha than any classic Square series. I'm not even opposed to different art styles, it's just that this one is so overplayed in mobile games that it's hard to ignore.

### 4/5 — Controller support

*2023-11-13, version 1.0.3*

This game would be 5* but I can’t play with a controller that’s a must fir a true console experience

### 3/5 — Please add controller support

*2022-05-01*

Please add controller support

### 3/5 — Some shortcomings

*2019-10-20, version 1.0.3*

1. No full screen support for the X series/iPhone 11 series. Par for the course as far as Square Enix games go on iOS and Android. Cannot reliably expect updates.
2. Touch responsiveness needs to be fixed. At times touches just do not register.
3. This is a personal complaint, but I wish it were closer to the first Dimensions game. This is basically just battles with a wave enemies approach. No true exploration in the vein of the classic FF games. Story is a bit lackluster and the fact that you cannot explore makes it a bit boring.

It’s fun to pick up from time to time, but it’s not something I can play for hours unfortunately.

### 4/5 — Where is X support?

*2018-12-20, version 1.0.3*

Fun game but can’t believe it is only a year old and doesn’t have full X screen support.

Please add it!

### 4/5 — Better Than Expected

*2018-10-02*

FFD2 does a lot of things right - and a few things wrong.

The bad: The title - FF Dimensions 2 - is misleading to those of us who played the first game. No random encounters. No towns or dungeons to explore. No overwork map to blaze across. Meanwhile, FFD 1 had all of those elements. I personally feel that the game should have been called something else - many folks were disappointed enough by these changes that they never have the game a chance - which is too bad, because for what it is, and what it’s trying to be, FFD2 is quite good.

The game starts slow - it take some time before your characters start getting new abilities to make the fights more interesting. I almost quit at one point - but I’m glad that I didn’t.

The good: Everything else. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and experimenting w different party combinations. Battles are fun and fast, and the game is absolutely loaded with countless FF franchise references and details, making the game extra fun for those of us who have played many of the earlier FF games (e.g. The Tower of Babil music is a great remix of FF4’s original ToB music). Overall, the playable characters are enjoyable and have personality - maybe not as deep or as great as some past characters from previous FF games (Edge, Locke, Barret, Celes, etc.), but still enjoyable nonetheless.

Put in over 50 hours, was well worth the sale price of 7$. Got my money’s worth.

### 2/5 — Okay but really not worth it

*2018-07-14*

The elements are all messed up. Fire and water are the normal colours but earth and air are mixed up. They also don’t override the usual way. Fire and water hurt each other as earth and air do. This is not normal and takes time to adjust. The story starts out very engaging but drags on and on and on until you either just skip everything or quit playing.

I’d give this game a miss. I felt so agitated just trying to get through it. A game should not be like this.

### 4/5 — Squaresoft remix of the mobile era?

*2018-01-16*

The storyline is a semi-decent amalgamation of the original Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. It's moderately entertaining with a decent play time (I obtained and maxed out every ability in the game and hit level 99, clocking in about 65 hours). However, most of that time is really letting the game play itself with autobattle. It's really only a handful of fights where you need to intervene directly.

The game was originally designed as a freemium mobile game and it's painfully obvious how the focus used to be on the business (enticing people to spend money on the microtransactions) rather than making a game that's genuinely well-crafted. It's been redesigned to eliminate the microtransactions. but with the deterministic drops of the signets, it feels a bit broken, since some abilities are clearly junk that are not worth upgrading, and yet, it just becomes the norm to do so because everything is handed to you as the result of story progression.

It's OK as a pay-once game that it currently is but definitely isn't the best that SE has to offer. 4 stars just because I somehow managed to max everything out without uninstalling.

### 4/5 — Decent but repetitive

*2018-01-11*

It's a fun game to be sure. Nothing like the first Dimensions.
Took me 40 hours to actually beat the game, and a majority of it is grinding side quests to be strong enough to get by. All in all it's really easy though, apart from a tower in the game, the final boss, and 4 or 5 other fights. You gain abilities like you do in FF9, and there's no fast way to get gil, or anything, really.
I enjoyed it, but by the end of the game I was bored and disappointed, and the characters are as corny as can be the whole time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bad sequel.

*2022-05-09*

This has nothing to do with it first game. I mean the first dimensions was literallly one of the best FF since tactics, in my opinion.

### 1/5 — Langues ?

*2021-01-19*

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2020-04-04*

I cannot express how much of a disappointment this game is. I have been playing FF games since FF3 on snes. I was excited about the new dimensions after the first one completely took me by surprise and I loved that game. This game should be free. It plays like one of these free “pay to play” games. No strategy, story is.... not good. SE, you guys are the heavy hitters on the block. FFT is possibly the best game, maybe 7? But it is all about FF series. This one needs an enormous “update” called a redo or remodel. Enjoy my 15 bucks guys, you got me on this one.

### 1/5 — Riddled with bugs, unplayable on iPhone XS Max

*2019-05-16*

DO NOT PURCHASE

First off, the buttons don’t respond to taps. I’m not sure if it’s a compatibility thing or some kind of obvious bug they failed to pick up, I can tap to speed up the talking, but in combat and on the world map my tap doesn’t work on anything. I have to spam tap multiple times for the game to register.

Second, even when it is playable, the game plays like Brave Exvius, which is sqex’s freemium game. Final Fantasy Dimensions 2 is supposed to be a classic JRPG experience, that allows the players to explore the maps and travel to towns and fight monster encounters along the way, and they made it out to play like a mobile freemium money sucking garbage! Truly shameful!

Bottom line: not worth the money, I wish I didn’t buy it.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2019-01-09, version 1.0.3*

Half the time you have to click on an box multiple times. Got to a point where I can click on anything at all. Fix it please. I paid good money for this app that doesn’t work right.

### 1/5 — Not worth buying

*2018-09-24*

I love final fantasy, I’be played them all... even the ones not worth playing
I loved final fantasy dimensions 1!
This game is nothing like the original... you can’t customise the classes and it’s WAY TO EASY.

### 1/5 — Not good enough

*2018-02-08*

Auto save didn’t work lost so much progress

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2017-12-28*

I’d give it less than one star if I could.

I saw it and bought it straight away, based on the first game.

The story is interesting, but what I hate is the battle system; which is just a rehash of energy based games, where you can fight battles etc using energy, and they try and get you to buy more when you run out or you have to wait to recharge your energy.

This game doesn’t have energy, but everything else is in there for this type of genre. And this is the problem I have with it.

Square Enix have spent a lot of the last few years trying to reinvent both the wheel and fire. Fair play to them for trying but sometimes you have to accept that some people like tradition.

### 1/5 — Ahh to me... it’s surely not a true FF....

*2017-11-24, version 1.0.3*

It’s an interesting game but not a true FF title... it’s more like another “Auto” game... this is ruining not only mobile games but now platforms... a good time killer just to look down at the screen every 30 seconds.. give me the classic Squaresoft back.. haha

### 1/5 — In Name Only

*2017-11-17*

It's like FF13 with the whole dreaded hallway where all you do is just hit forward and auto battle; only they've taken the go forward thing out. What a waste, this is nothing like the previous dimensions game where at least you got the first chapter free to see if you liked it. The Japanese version does this, but here nope it's paywall locked. It's such a boring game, and that's it's real damping trait.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — ONLY LISTEN TO THE 5 STAR REVIEWS

*2025-04-09*

Anybody who gave it a 4 star or less are dumb trolls that couldn’t get passed the very easy tutorial. They are entitled crybabies who still live in their mommies basements. Only believe what the 5 star reviewers wrote!

### 5/5 — Not as bad as many are claiming

*2020-04-02*

This game is not bad but it does play very differently than the first in the series. While the prequel focuses on a blend of exploration, story, and combat equally, this game focuses heavily on combat. If you like battles and powering up characters more than anything, then this is for you. I personally like this as I never delve much into lore and prefer more action. You will mostly either be on a world map selecting a destination, in a cutscene or in combat that is arranged in waves of fights.

### 5/5 — Perfekter Mix aus Final Fantasy und CHRONO Trigger

*2019-10-22*

Gameplay optimiert auf schnelles Spiel zwischendurch. Ideal für unterwegs. Nett geschriebene Charaktere. Mit gefällt es.

Nachtrag: Etwas über 35 Stunden für das Hauptspiel benötigt und danach gehts nochmal 10 Stunden bis zu den finalen Kredits. Fazit ich liebe es! Geniale Story, tolle Charaktere! 6 Sterne!

### 5/5 — Initially disappointed, but grew to love it

*2019-06-08*

Now when I heard that a new FF Dimensions game was being released, I was excited because I played the first one and absolutely enjoyed it. After downloading this game and playing it for about 3 hours, I uninstalled it. I was disappointed. Now about a year later, I decided to revisit it with a open mindset. I can absolutely say I love this game. The story starts off realllllly slow but about midway it gets really good. It does a good job intertwining the timelines & introducing characters in a satisfying way. The gameplay is awesome, just playing the first tutorial battle seeing the powerful abilities you could obtain & eventually knowing you’ll be that powerful & even stronger is a great motivation to continue to play. You can even grind out your levels in particular towers to earn currency to buy new abilities and outfits. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a good game. Take your time and try it out before you cast it off.

### 5/5 — For only those specific people....

*2019-04-28*

Truth be told, this game is amazing! But,sadly some people beg to differ. But I atleast implore the people who chanced upon this and are looking at the reviews Incase they see if the game is good or not; to atleast try the game out yourself before believing reviews for the app. See for yourself if it’s good or not. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Final Fantasy Meets Chrono Trigger

*2018-08-03*

I always wanted a remake of Chrono Trigger and unexpectedly found it in the form of this game. I was disappointed at first it’s not a sequel to Dimensions, but this game is AMAZING; the auto-battle system underwent a massive and much-needed overhaul, the combat is well-rounded, the story has you on the edge of your seat from minute one and has you in its grip right until the credits roll, and the initial 15 USD is the ONLY paid part of it, no micro-transactions.

Addendum: while it’s true that for the most part this game isn’t connected to the first Dimensions, that changes in Chapter 5 - and I’m not just talking about the Alba subquest, either. The first 4 Chapters closely resemble Chrono Trigger, but the last 2 completely change the direction of the plot, leaning toward a more Dimensions-esque ending involving the destruction of the space-time continuum and everyone’s most-hated Final Fantasy villain.

### 5/5 — Favorite New Mobile FF

*2018-05-17*

I don’t know why this one has hooked me... but I absolutely love Final Fantasy Dimensions II. It’s a very easily accessible on-the-go RPG, where you won’t get lost wandering around. I love classic FFs, but this is fresh, exciting, and quite comforting. It doesn’t cover the weird aspect ratio of the iPhone X, but that doesn’t bother me. And it proves my theory that any F2P game can easily be made better for the gamer by turning it into a premium game!

### 5/5 — Boring but faithful

*2018-04-20*

The game FF dimensions II is a traditional FF game with Menu turn based rpg. The main stuff which i expect from square enix. But the sad thing is the explore system. There is no map for exploring by yourself and everything is automatic. There game is extremely easy. U will not fail the battles . And the challenging part of the original FF series is not sensible inside the game. Artwork is awful. The music is very simple and the story is not attractive at all.
I gave 5 stars because i’m a big fan of final fantasy series and i must finish the game.

### 5/5 — If your busy but love Final Fantasy

*2018-02-13, version 1.0.3*

I’m 60+ hours in. Between family and work I only get to play randomly. It’s got a lot nostalgia and it’s a long game. If you don’t have time to run the world map but want to play make the purchase. Thanks for reading and take care.

### 5/5 — Juste génial!!!!

*2018-01-30*

Un super square Enix comme on les aime !!!
