### 3/5 — Needs controller support

*2022-08-18, version 2.0.1*

Fun game. The fact that it isn’t compatible with controllers is a big loss.

### 3/5 — No Controller Support

*2021-10-14, version 2.0.1*

A lack of controller support for this is disappointing. Further research finds that Square Enix doesn’t give controller support a lot. Last purchase from me until they add it in.

### 4/5 — No controller support

*2021-03-30, version 2.0.0*

Finally came around to buying the iPad version after owning and playing on psp. The graphics are clean, sound is great. Everything is there except proper controls. Ff4 has control support and works out wonderfully but this ff3 iPad version does not and is VERY DIFFICULT to control at times. Mainly the virtual analog stick. The sensitivity between walking and running is ridiculous to the point I wish it was more of a toggle that I can click to turn running Off or Always On. It can get extremely hard to just walk into a door to get inside anywhere. I don’t understand Square Enix lack of control support on iPad games such as this, Valkyrie Profile and Final Fantasy Tactics. I really don’t get it. Do they not read or see complaints and reviews? How much more positive reviews would be for one simple fix? I understand things get busy but people are spending hard earned money for these games. They aren’t free.

### 2/5 — Controller support?

*2020-11-14, version 2.0.0*

Got a cutscene 8 months ago, but still no controller support?

### 4/5 — Mediocre

*2020-07-13, version 2.0.0*

The story is good, it’s nice you thought of this for iPad, now people like me can enjoy this.

It would be nice if you could remove the credits during cutscenes, they kinda mess up the feel.

I have one question— how do you turn your guys into Toads so I can do the tower.

Overall, great game, and it’s FREE so AMAZING job

### 4/5 — Great improvements, missing key feature

*2020-02-29, version 2.0.0*

... still no controller support o.0

### 4/5 — Mfi support please

*2020-02-28, version 2.0.0*

Update very Nice but ipad pro mfi impossible

### 4/5 — Instructions on saving are misleading

*2019-11-23, version 1.6.4*

The notes on Saving in the Control Hints specifically say “Auto quicksave automatically saves your progress as you play the game.” So I naturally assumed that there was some kind of autosaving happening as I was playing the game. So I was shocked to discover after dying at the very beginning of the cave in Kazus that there was no autosave data I could resume from and I had to start playing the game over from the very beginning.

These instructions about saving are extremely misleading. What if I had been playing the game for a lot longer before dying for the first time and then discovered I had to restart the game from the beginning?

### 3/5 — No feature parity with MFI controllers

*2018-05-21, version 1.6.4*

The iPhone version of this game seems to support MFI controllers but the iPad version doesn’t, it would be great to see this updated as I had assumed support was present when I first bought my controller

### 3/5 — Beware the iPad version, no controller support

*2017-03-24, version 1.6.4*

I mistakenly bought this game thinking it was a universal app and that I could use an MFI controller like on the iPhone version. Well, you can't. I can't fathom why Square-Enix would have controller support for a 4-6 inch screen display, but not for the larger iPad screen.

I'm guessing they won't ever update this either. I also noticed the opening cutscene that plays in the beginning of the game menu is gone and it's just the word version. Not sure why they removed it but there's some really bonehead decisions going by on around here.

Just beware before you purchase. Technically I should blame the Nimbus companion app for not clarifying that FFIII controller support is only on the iPhone, but yeah...

### 4/5 — Not controller compatible

*2017-01-09, version 1.6.4*

Great game, but while almost all the other ff games are compatible with game pads, this one isn't. Hope they'll fix it soon.

### 4/5 — Supports only the IPad unlike some of the other FF which support both the iPad and the iPhone

*2016-12-06, version 1.6.4*

I just got the iPhone 7 plus and tried download all of the Final Fantasy versions to it finding out that this is iPad version is not supported unless I pay another $15 for no major difference. I'll still give it 4 of 5 stars because it is still a great game.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Saving glitch.

*2026-01-11, version 2.0.1*

Played about an hour and quick saved. Got killed in the mythrill mines and saved data was missing. Waste of money

### 1/5 — If you ALL save data is deleted!

*2025-12-01, version 2.0.1*

I have saved data to the cloud as the game suggested just to die and have it all deleted a more than once. It makes the game unplayable to the end. It doesn’t matter if you save or not. It wipes all saves when you die.

### 1/5 — NEW “HARASSMENT” POLICY

*2025-01-12*

To those who may be as yet unaware, Square just put out a new policy taking a stand against harassment. They now reserve the right to refuse services or deny your right to purchase their products for engaging in behaviors that may exceed socially acceptable norms… but they have listed asking for “changes” to a game as an example.

I’m not kidding. Requesting a change be made may just be enough to get you SUED. That is also not an exaggeration! Square has specifically said they will pursue legal action, and their policy is vague enough that mere CRITICISM may be enough to land you in court if they don’t like what you have to say!

UNACCEPTABLE TO THE NTH DEGREE.

### 1/5 — No Controller Support

*2021-09-05, version 2.0.1*

Sadly no controller support for this version of the game forces me to give it a one star review, seeing as I have waisted my money on it. I will go back to playing the iPhone version which does have controller support. Seriously, why can’t you transfer the controller support from one over to the other? You need to take controllers for mobile games seriously and it’s frustrating as a huge fan of Final Fantasy (the only game I consistently play besides Minecraft) to not have a decent way to access the catalog when you are so close. You have provided the support for so many other games flawlessly. I don’t understand the issue, considering you are charging a considerable amount for the game. It would be totally worth it if I had controller support but I feel ripped off and my money was waisted on this purchase. FWI, I purchased this game a while back and am still fuming about it.

### 1/5 — No controller support

*2020-08-25, version 2.0.0*

Seems like a fundamental oversight. Disappointing.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2020-08-09, version 2.0.0*

there's no sound coming out of the game at all

### 1/5 — Controller support?

*2020-08-09, version 2.0.0*

So you’ll give the phone version of FF3 controller support but not the ipad version? I’m just going to stop buying apps from SE because obviously you do not care for your supporters.

Why is it SE keeps getting worse and worse with app updates? But they’ll definitely keep their prices up and keep taking eveyone’s money.

### 1/5 — Don't buy it

*2019-04-20, version 1.6.4*

Don't buy any iOS game from square Enix as they may pull them off the shelf.

### 1/5 — No controller support

*2017-11-30, version 1.6.4*

Great game, but please add support for controllers.

### 1/5 — Need controller support

*2016-01-31, version 1.6.2*

The iPhone version of the game has been updated with controller support and yet after so long the iPad version, which needs support for controller more than the iPhone version, still doesn't have it.

It's sad that nowadays game developers focus so much on freemium games with basically no decent content, and do a crappy job with paid games that doesn't make money on user addictions.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Still lacks controller support in 2025.

*2025-10-15, version 2.0.1*

The game itself is a good game, but it hampered by not having controller support. I would not have bought it if I’d known I couldn’t use a controller on it, as you apparently can on the pixel remasters.

### 5/5 — excellent and charming, simple RPG

*2024-12-21, version 2.0.1*

trust me when I say I have, if not played every "talked about" rpg, at least tried, both on playstations and PC, and I found most of them not worth the time. The simplicity in the story of this one is its strenght: you don't have to follow details you don't care about.

This one reminds me of Zelda The Minish Cap, which I really loved. It's just charming and really very good.

### 5/5 — Excellent Remake

*2022-01-17, version 2.0.1*

Please, add controller support, is the only thing missing!

### 5/5 — Final Fantasy III iOS Update Is Great!

*2021-04-22, version 2.0.0*

1st, this game is phenomenal, very fun to play, great place to start for ANYONE interested in diving into Final Fantasy. The storyline is great, gameplay is challenging but not too tough, music is SPOT ON & what I expect from this incredible series. I’ve been playing Final Fantasy since 1987 & currently working on FF IV The After Years & FFIV & FFVIII Remastered for Nintendo Switch & I can say that FF3 is one of THE BEST in the series! Can’t wait for Final Fantasy Orchestra Tour this year in Chicago! Download FF3! You won’t be disappointed! No controller needed, ignore the other reviews! 5 STARS!

### 5/5 — Superb

*2020-09-06, version 2.0.0*

Quite simply, if you like Final Fantasy, then get this - the story is simple but engaging and gameplay is brilliant. Great to play on the iPad. Buy it!

### 5/5 — Controler

*2020-02-27, version 2.0.0*

Is this version of the game going to be able to use controller. The Iphone version can but the iPad version should also need controller access.

### 5/5 — Enjoyable plays well

*2018-12-25, version 1.6.4*

Enjoyable game, on par with the ds version on a bigger screen. Well worth the money

### 5/5 — Enjoyed thoroughly!

*2018-01-11, version 1.6.4*

Final Fantasy III is one the last FF games that I have downloaded from the Apple store. Mostly because I heard that it was slow (it is a bit at the beginning) and that the final dungeon is very long & difficult (yes it’s a bit lengthy but by that time the game becomes really challenging & fun). Just prepare well, save often, and if you are like me and don’t want or have time to slog around looking for where to go next, there are several free guides & walkthroughs online that will help. Probably a bit antiquated compared to more modern FF games, but I really think that if you enjoy classic RPG (I remember playing Ultima which gives you an idea of how old a gamer I am) you will most likely enjoy FF III. Great graphics, awesome music, and after the obligatory warm-up it becomes a wonderfully unique game playing experience.

### 5/5 — Fantastic RPG

*2016-11-04, version 1.6.4*

Full screen and smooth even on old iPad 3. Highly recommend it. Get it now while it's 50% off.

### 5/5 — Excellent game!

*2016-08-30, version 1.6.4*

Awesome gameplay, very happy with my purchase. Was a little standoffish to play this 3D version but I am very glad I did.

Not a good game for those who hate level grinding because you have both character level and 23 job levels to master (though, you certainly don't HAVE to grind all jobs and character level to 99.)

Well worth purchasing, any Final Fantasy fan will enjoy the game. Game mechanics are virtually flawless.
