I think what the dev meant by “double entry accounting” is that you actually have to input twice which account the transaction goes from (and to) because the app just completely ignores your first input. Entering one transaction is basically three menus, 5 or 6 taps plus you entering the amount. Do I really want to do that 10 times a day? I basically have a combined checkbook & ledger & I only have to make one entry. Reports are easily generated & easy to read. The ONLY problem I have is I don’t have a way to open/print Transaction Reports because of their zip file format. Kind regards, C ### 3/5 — A bit lost *2022-05-01, version 1.8.7* This app seems to be what I’m looking for but I’m confused as to why it seems like a free app but after downloading and creating 1 journal I get the option for a 14 day trial or pay 4.99. I don’t mind paying if it is worth it so I shall make that decision after my trial time but I feel a bit deceived. I was comparing this app to free ones, now I need to reconsider and compare to paid apps. The developer stopped supporting and doing bug fixes or enhancements years ago. Both mobile and Mac versions are quite good for basic bookkeeping and easy to use, but if you have any problems you’re on your own! It’s also not being updated to support later MacOS and iOS versions. My biggest issue was the failure to reliably sync attachments. I had to restore them from backups multiple times. Because of the lack of support and development I stopped using it and migrated all my data to Moneydance. It’s a much more sophisticated and comprehensive app for the Mac, and is very well supported, but its mobile companion has very limited capabilities. ### 1/5 — ICloud geht nicht *2023-12-15, version 1.8.7* iCloud funktioniert nicht ### 1/5 — Lost license suddenly, restoring loads infinitely *2023-11-17, version 1.8.7* In a middle of using the app it suddenly asked for purchase. I switched phones, and both the old and the new one downloaded, but can no longer access my saved information because that older version “expired”. So I’ve lost years of financial data, even though I had purchased the full version. Finances 2 does link to the first and can not recover the lost data either. I hated the format of the new one and never started using it. You’d think if we purchased an app we wouldn’t randomly lose all the data we paid to have stored in it. ### 1/5 — Had an older version *2022-02-23, version 1.8.7* The first finances worked just fine, bought it, used it (still using it, though it’s now full of pop-ups since the 2nd version came out, and got the texts grayed out in the settings…). The second version makes my iphone 13 mini hot, and lack’s functions the first had. I don’t understand why you have to make the first one unusable just because you make an other version. Please remove the pop-ups from the finances 1, and let the people who bought it once use it without sanctions. ### 1/5 — Finances 2 *2022-01-02, version 1.8.7* Terrible App will be getting refund. Nothing like the first version. Terrible remake ### 1/5 — Syncing Doesn’t Work *2022-01-01, version 1.8.7* The app itself is great. It’s a good double entry accounting program. However, syncing does not work. The app hangs indefinitely when trying to restore a purchase. Syncing with iCloud works only a fraction of the time. The app seems to not receive updates anymore. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this app any longer. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for *2025-05-26, version 1.8.7* So happy with the capabilities of this app. Best double-entry accounting app I could find that I wasn’t an outrageous price or some sort of subscription. So easy to set up, easy to make single and recurring entries, and it’s neat that you can set up your own envelope budgeting system easily within the app. My previous app didn’t do subcategories and now I know that I was right for wishing for them! ### 5/5 — Good app, but the weekly report is missing, there's no way to replace it *2025-02-20, version 1.8.7* Good app, but the weekly report is missing, there's no way to replace it ### 5/5 — Super App, beschränkt auf das Wesentliche *2024-12-04* Ich finde diese App toll, sie ist frei von unnötigem Schnickschnack und leistet genau, was ich brauche. Vor jedem größeren iOS-Update habe ich allerdings Angst, dass sie danach nicht mehr funktioniert, das ist mir nämlich mit der Vorgänger-App Finanzen so gegangen. Zum Glück hatten das Problem noch einige andere Leute, und der Entwickler hat dann ein Update geschrieben, so dass wir an unsere Daten wieder herankamen. Danach habe ich dann Finanzen2 gekauft und auch der Umzug der Daten hat einwandfrei geklappt. ### 5/5 — So simpel wie ein Haushaltsbuch *2024-10-12* Eine doppelte Buchführung für den privaten Haushalt. So kann Geld sicher und übersichtlich verwaltet werden. Budgetierung wird auch ohne Kategorien einfach über Ein- und Ausgabekonten möglich. Die Salden können minutengenau verfolgt werden. ### 5/5 — Best offline double entry accounting app *2022-06-30, version 1.8.7* This is a very clean and beautifully designed app. There are a few other double entry accounting/bookkeeping apps for iOS. However, this stands out from the rest in terms of features and design. Navigation is very intuitive, adding transactions is very quick and easy (especially with contextually aware suggestions for Payee and Comment), good looking visualizations, and a variety of handy reporting options. There are some handy search shortcuts too (e.g. last week, month, etc). Searching is flexible in that you can search overall or specifically by the comment, payee, or by amount. I’ve been using the app on iOS and MacOS for almost 2 months now and am pretty satisfied. I’ve had iCloud sync fail (reporting an error but can’t quite recall it) but fixing it was simple. The developer has helpful guides and articles (about the app and double entry accounting in general) and a F.A.Q. One page talks about fixing iCloud. Another one for example talks about budgeting using envelope system (most apps you’ll see use this idea). I think it would be nice to have some additional statistics/insights that are human readable (e.g. you spent $300 more on shopping compared to last month). An additional nice to have is custom fields so one could have a transaction date and a posted date. My solution for this is just using the number field (phone number of Payee) as a date for the transaction. When I clear a transaction, I update the actual date field to it’s posted date. The above two are just that, nice to haves. I think this app is generally feature complete. The developer seems to be focusing on their other apps, which is fine given the above statement. Highly recommend trying the app out. There’s a 14 day trial with no feature restrictions so give it a shot. ### 5/5 — Bin sehr verärgert *2021-06-06* Nachdem ich meine ganzen Finanzen in der alten App eingegeben hatte und so Überblick hatte über alles …und dann plötzlich feststellen muss dass ich an alles einfach überhaupt nicht mehr ran komme , bin ich so verärgert dass ich dummerweise auch noch für die neue App bezahlt habe , die absolut gar nicht mein Ding ist und zudem erstmal wieder alles zusammen kriegen muss und eine halbe Ewigkeit dran sitzen werde, weil alles verloren ist und nicht mehr dran komme , was ich mir festgehalten habe ! Ich bin eigentlich stinksauer , dass ich da mein Vertrauen rein gesetzt habe ! Ich werde mir eine andere App suchen müssen ! Denn diese neue Version regt mich nur auf ! Leider umsonst bezahlt aber mich täglich rum ärgern mit dieser App habe ich echt absolut keine Lust dazu ! ### 5/5 — So far, GREAT! *2021-05-01, version 1.8.7* I haven’t had Finances for very long but so far it is the best app that I have found for my business as a DIY landlord. Works well, and does what it says it will do on the tin. I use the desktop and the phone versions together, giving me up to the minute accuracy on my finances. Highly recommended. ### 5/5 — Sehr gut aber *2021-02-01* Ich habe nur zwei ganz kleine Bitten, die wahrscheinlich aus meiner Sicht leicht zu implementieren sind für Sie (aber ich weiß es nicht genau ich bin leider kein Entwickler). 1. Der Kontrast im Darkmode ist leider schwach. Bei Buchungen die in der Zukunft liegen ist der Titel der Buchung in weiß (gut zu erkennen). Das gefällt mir sehr gut. Jedoch ist die Zeile darunter wo z.B. steht „Bankkonto -> Essen“ in einem hellen grau gehalten... Könnten Sie das bitte auch in dem weiß machen, wie der Titel der Buchung ist? 2. Wenn ich in mein persönliches Journal gehe, sehe ich dort ja die bekannten Punkte Vermögen, Verbindlichkeiten, Einnahmen, Ausgaben und Kapital. Ist es möglich, dass man die feste Anordnung dieser Punkte manuell festgelegen kann (bisher kann ich nur die Reihenfolge einzelnen „Unterkonten“ ändern aber nicht die Reihenfolge der 5 festen Einträge.
