## What is Finolio?

The personal finance app built for one person — you.

Finolio tracks every expense, budget, and receipt photo entirely on your devices and in your own private iCloud. No servers. No user accounts. No analytics. We can't read your data because we don't have any way to.

The whole app is yours.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Quick capture
• Scan paper receipts with Apple Intelligence — merchant, amount, date, and category fill in automatically
• Voice journal: hold the mic, speak your expenses, the app splits and structures them
• Universal Clipboard pickup from bank emails or messages
• Apple Watch quick-add — two taps from your wrist
• Lock Screen widgets, Siri Shortcuts, home-screen long-press shortcuts

Intelligence that respects you
• Conversational coach — ask "why did I spend so much on dining?" and it answers, all on-device
• Auto-Draft Budget builds your monthly budget from your last 90 days
• Anomaly alerts when a category spikes 1.5× above its eight-week baseline
• Predictive cash-flow: see what's left by next paycheck
• Spending velocity: today's burn rate vs. your 30-day average

Smarter receipts
• Warranty and return-window tracker auto-detects "30-day return" or "1-year warranty"
• Duplicate-charge detection scans weekly
• Item-level reorder reminders learn your typical buying intervals
• Line-item extraction breaks a grocery run into individual items

Apple-native everywhere
• iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch — one purchase, every device
• Custom emoji and Genmoji category icons
• Calendar binding: trip events auto-tag expenses; calendar bills become recurring
• Reminders mirror: budget alerts also appear in your Reminders app
• Focus filter: Work focus shows only work-tagged expenses
• Mac menu bar widget with a Cmd+Shift+N global quick-add hotkey
• Continuity Camera: scan a receipt with your iPhone, data lands on your Mac
• iPad spreadsheet view for bulk-editing transactions in a real table
• Lock Screen accessory widgets, StandBy support, multiple widget sizes

Behavioral tools that don't lecture
• Streak system to build the daily-logging habit
• Friction mode: optional 30-second pause before saving impulse purchases above a threshold you set
• Anti-anchoring entry hides the amount until you've categorized

Privacy controls
• Privacy curtain — one tap blurs every dollar amount and merchant name
• App-switcher cover replaces the multitask thumbnail with the brand mark
• Export your full database as plain JSON anytime
• Delete every record across every device with a single confirmation
• Optional auto-curtain on every launch

WHO IT'S FOR

People who want a finance app that's actually private. Self-employed users tagging expenses by trip or project. Couples sharing a budget without handing a third party their entire financial life. Anyone tired of "free" finance apps that monetize their data.

WHAT YOU WON'T SEE

• No ads. Ever.
• No subscription gate on core features.
• No third-party analytics SDKs.
• No "data collected to improve our service."
• No bank login, no aggregator, no external account.

The optional cloud AI features (receipt smart-scan via your own Anthropic or xAI API key) are 100% opt-in. Without a key, the entire app runs on your device with Apple Intelligence.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.1 — 2026-08-20

Easier to log — and harder to log twice.

• Tap a store on any expense to see every purchase there • Get a reminder the day before a bill is due; tap to log it • Share a PDF or a short recap from Statistics • On iOS 18, add Log Expense to Control Center • On Apple Watch, roll the Digital Crown to set an amount • Saving the same charge twice in a few minutes now asks first

Also: Pro paywall loads reliably, Email Forwarding reconnects cleanly, and widgets show when you’re over budget.

### 2.1 — 2026-07-07

Finolio 2.1 is our biggest speed pass yet — plus clearer, more transparent guidance throughout the app.

FASTER EVERYWHERE
• The Dashboard, Statistics, and your expense list open and update noticeably faster.
• Search is now instant, even with years of history — results narrow as you type.
• Charts, cards, and transitions settle in a snap instead of drifting in.
• The animated backdrop no longer runs continuously and fully respects Reduce Motion, so Finolio sips far less battery.
• Finolio launches quicker and stays fast no matter how much history you've built up.

CLEARER, MORE TRANSPARENT
• New one-time Terms of Use acceptance on first launch — viewable anytime in Settings.
• Coach now notes its suggestions are general budgeting information, not financial advice.
• Scanned receipts remind you to double-check amounts before saving.
• Spending forecasts are clearly labeled as projections, not guaranteed numbers.

### 2.0 — 2026-07-03

Finolio 2.0 — consistent, quick, and reliable

• The same numbers everywhere. Your watch, widgets, and the app now calculate today's spending and what's left to spend the exact same way, so every screen agrees at a glance.

• Stays fast as your history grows. The dashboard, widgets, and saves now load only what they need — the app stays snappy no matter how many months or years you've tracked.

• Recurring bills, handled. Recurring charges and monthly budget roll-overs apply reliably (even right after midnight) and never double up across your devices.

• Know when you're offline. A clear banner shows when you've lost connection, so a paused sync reads as "saved on your device" instead of looking broken — and it clears itself the moment you're back.

• Safer shared imports & exports. Split-bill files and scanned receipts now reject bad amounts before they touch your data, and CSV exports are hardened against spreadsheet formula tricks.

• Rock-solid email import. The optional Email Forwarding relay never drops a charge when two bank alerts arrive at once, and never accepts a charge it can't verify came from your bank.

Private by design as always — everything on-device unless you explicitly opt in.

### 1.9 — 2026-06-24

Finolio 1.9 — Your money, a step ahead

Finolio now does more than track your spending — it helps you plan it.

• Safe to Spend Today — Your Dashboard now leads with one number: what's actually free to spend today, after the bills and goal money already spoken for before your next paycheck.

• Net Worth — Add your accounts, cards, and assets to see your full net worth and how it's trending. Entered by you, stored privately in iCloud — never pulled from a third party.

• Daily Money Brief — An on-device digest surfaces the one thing worth knowing — an overspend forming, a bill due, a forgotten subscription — with a gentle once-a-day nudge.

• What-If Planner — Simulate cutting a category, canceling subscriptions, or taking on a new payment, and instantly see the monthly impact and how much sooner you'd reach a savings goal.

• Plain-English Automations — Type a rule like "file Costco as Groceries" or "alert me if I spend over $50 on coffee this week," and Finolio applies it for you — parsed entirely on-device.

• Price Tracker — Finolio reads your receipts down to the item, so you can see exactly which things are getting pricier over time.

• Spending Calendar & private benchmarks — A month heatmap shows where your money goes day to day, and an on-device comparison shows how you stack up against typical households.

As always, everything runs on your device. Your data stays yours.

### 1.8 — 2026-06-20

See overspending before it happens. The Dashboard now warns you when you're on pace to finish the month over budget. Tap any slice of your category chart to drill into those purchases, and export any date range to CSV. The Recurring tab spots subscriptions hiding in your spending so you can track — or cancel — them, imported charges file themselves into smarter categories, and statement imports now tell you exactly what came in. Plus added security on email-forwarded charges and a sturdier, crash-resistant foundation.
