## What is Firewalla?

Firewalla is a vital security addition to every home and small business with network and IoT devices.

Imagine yourself settling in for a nice, quiet evening. You go to check on the sleeping baby and out of the corner of your eye you catch the baby camera turn towards you...somebody else is watching. Hackers are like a burglar constantly checking all your doors and windows looking for a way to sneak in.

Firewalla can help you to secure and manage your personal network, discover vulnerable IoT devices. Firewalla has the ability to discover devices that are open and can be infected (or already) by the Mirai virus.

Security Scanning

1. Inside scan, find all the devices that may be infected with Mirai virus or can be infected with it.
2. Outside scan, search for ports that are open from the Internet side.

This app will also control the Firewalla Box.

### 5/5 — Learning and loving it!

*2026-08-17, version 1.69.2*

Short story: Had my home network already set up and placed my Firewalla gold Plus between the Blackhawk modem (bypass mode) and the router. I noticed that I wasn’t tapping into the capabilities of the firewalla as the router. Therefore I placed my ASUS BQ16 pro router into AP mode(which I was very happy as the router) but the Firewalla appeared to have more surgical functional tools. (if that makes sense). Setting up the Firewalla as a router, I soon realized that the unmanned switch I was using in my network wasn’t the best option. Configuring the vlan on the BQ16 pro wireless and the Firewalla gold plus gave me the understanding and confidence to purchase (and hopefully configure) a manned 8 port switch. (Will let you know how it goes. Loving it!!!)

### 5/5 — My choice for a decade now

*2026-08-15, version 1.69.2*

High quality hardware and the easy to use app and outstanding support, makes it a great selection for a layered security solution. I’ve had a few of their firewall devices. Currently have the rack mounted Gold Pro and am anxiously awaiting the release of the new rack mounted Switch I preordered as soon as I saw them available.

I’ve used Firewalla hardware for a decade now. Let that settle and let me add that the only failures and problems I’ve had were self inflicted.

I’m not one to let things be, if/when I think a setting modification may improve performance.

I tweak, often just to verify before making changes “permanent”, which I have yet to accomplish.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-08-11, version 1.69.2*

Using this app with the FW Purple for a few years now and it’s extremely reliable, and very stable. Great product!!

### 1/5 — Broken

*2026-07-27, version 1.69.2*

This keeps killing my internet connection

### 5/5 — Impressive

*2026-07-25, version 1.69.2*

Really great management features. Maybe sometimes a little UX poor but still outstanding.

### 5/5 — Coming from FortiGate

*2026-06-19, version 1.68*

These firewalls are one of if not the best purchase I have made for home. I work in Cyber Security and the ease at which you can set this up and secure your family is amazing.

The app runs the entire firewall and makes managing time limits and access to sites a breeze.

Amazing product, amazing app.

Highly recommend both hardware and software.

### 1/5 — Terrible Pair Process

*2026-06-09, version 1.68*

So we put I’ve had a Firewalla going on two years. I get a new phone and try to pair with my existing firewalla. To my surprise, the parenting process is only ‘ wait five minutes while the box turns on’ which indicates that the onboard or the pairing process is related to turning it on. Mine is already turned on.. why do I have to wait five minutes when it’s already turned on?? but that’s not the point why can’t it detect it on either my android or my iPhone to be able to add the device (via Bluetooth)

This is frustrating because then you go to the health files, which are only iPhone based btw, and there’s zero documentation about the problem. I’m having with both my phones.. ME thinks that there should be at least a this is what you should do if it doesn’t pair while it’s on article .. so here I am without being able to review any of the functionality that I am most interested in reviewing. I have a support ticket at least I think what’s a support ticket sent by the app with no response. Is the device working well who knows? Am I getting hacked? Who knows?

### 5/5 — Great protection

*2026-06-08, version 1.68*

No subscription required yet the protection is as good if not better than those I do provide a subscription. A great option for cyber security protection.

### 5/5 — M

*2026-04-19, version 1.68*

N/A

### 5/5 — Reliable, Powerful, and Intuitive

*2026-04-06, version 1.68*

I have Firewalla Gold SE is a game-changer. The hardware is high-quality and the app makes managing complex network rules incredibly simple. It provides perfect stability and deep insights into network activity without any lag. A must-have for anyone who values network security and professional-grade features in a user-friendly package.
