First, it plays commercials before showing the 60-second preview of upcoming coverage, which isn’t helpful when a storm is approaching, and quick updates are needed. Second, when the news team is live, clicking to watch within the app redirects to the WLBT 3 website, where the live stream takes too long to load—again, not ideal during severe weather. Could live updates be integrated directly into the app? Lastly, the in-app radar often differs from other weather apps and even the live broadcast radar, making it unreliable. I’d have no issue paying a reasonable price per month to get the app with no ads and a widget but that isn’t even offered. Going back to AccuWeather if this isn’t improved upon soon. ### 3/5 — Used to be Better *2023-10-16* Pros: ✅ The almost precision forecast accuracy you’d expect from a local station. ✅ Alerts are accurate and on time. ✅ UI is easy to read and navigate. Cons: ❌ No widget for iOS. A really big oof. ❌ Very intrusive with the precision location and activity tracking requests. They don’t need to know what I’m doing outside of their app. This is for data mining and collection which they then sell. Nope. ❌Too ad heavy within the app. And finally, for the biggest oof of all: ❌ Forces ads even during life-threatening weather events when literal seconds count. Station has to make money, but ads should be disabled during severe weather events. Don’t like how the radar loop doesn’t pause at the end. It will crash several times in a row before it finally loads the data. There is no way to report it when it crashes either. You’d think in the year 2025 with the technology we have today that weather forecasts would at least be somewhat accurate. Wrong. A forecast of a 90-100% rain day may not see any rain at all while 30-40% may rain significantly all day. A forecast of light thunderstorms may be tornadoes. This morning for instance the hourly and zoomed in radar map showed it rained all morning in our expanded area. Nope. Not a drop. Either get it right or stop trying. The public is depending on you to plan their days. It’s useless *2023-07-19, version 5.10.500* I used to rely heavily on this application for a quick 60 seconds overview of the weather forecast, but recently they’ve added commercials that are LONGER than the 60 seconds weather forecast. I simply don’t have time to sit thru the commercials to get to a 60 seconds weather summary. The application is of no use to me anymore. Last Saturday, a horrendous storm passed through our area. I got a notification for an update on the first alert app. I opened the alert and there’s a freakin’ commercial…BEFORE we can see what the heck was happening outside! Keep in mind that we’d lost power, so we were relying on the app and Facebook updates 🤦🏾‍♀️. WLBT simply cannot need revenue bad enough to throw commercials on a 60 seconds weather update. ### 1/5 — Never correct with forecast !!!! *2023-07-14, version 5.10.500* This is the worst weather app EVER . It very rarely is correct. They put whatever and then it constantly changes. I guess we all should have been weather reporters , you can just say whatever you want and rarely be right , still have a job and still get paid.
