### 4/5 — Good lite app

*2012-11-12, version 1.3*

This app gives you a good feel for the high quality of app you will get when you purchase the full version! Well worth upgrading to the full version! Thanks Hamaguchi!

### 4/5 — Phrase app

*2012-11-06, version 1.3*

The animations on this app are great and I really like the recording feature to check for accuracy. I also like the repetition from the cat after the phrase is given. Great app!

### 4/5 — Great for speech delay

*2012-10-30, version 1.3*

I really liked the app. A great practice to putting words together and saying them. Being able to record and then hear your self is a real bonus. I like the clips of the phrases being said.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2012-10-28*

Love this app! Great for teaching sentence formation to young children. You touch the picture and hear the word then the child can record their own sentence and have it played back to them. It is simple and easy for kids to figure out by themselves. Highly recommend.

### 4/5 — Sentences!

*2012-10-27, version 1.3*

This app would be great for young kids with articulation problems. It could also be used to help support students in writing complete sentences. Many young kids do not understand what a sentence is and this app would be very useful for that!

### 4/5 — A great app for first phrases

*2012-10-27, version 1.3*

Simple to use and easy to follow - there should be a little more time for recording, but otherwise a wonderful app and I recomend it!

### 4/5 — Great!

*2012-10-26, version 1.3*

I have used this app with children with special needs and developmentally disabled adults. Engaging and provides great practice.

### 4/5 — good job

*2012-10-24, version 1.3*

nice lite app. great for expressive and receptive language development. good for non readers and readers alike. only thing I would change is the recording time length.

### 4/5 — Great Phrase App!

*2012-10-23*

This app is great for teaching early phrases. I like how they can llisten to it more than once then also have visual cues to help them remember it. For those who can't read yet, they can tap the words. This is good for both receptive and expressive speech, as well as cognitive. A little longer recording time would be good.

### 4/5 — Awesome

*2012-10-22, version 1.3*

What a great app. I love how they can hear the sounds as they are
Saying them. She plays with this everyday, what a great source of help.

### 4/5 — Nice Lite app

*2012-10-20, version 1.3*

This is a nice early language app. For a lite version you get several variations on verbing combinations. The record feature is fun and the challenge option is a nice addition.

### 5/5 — What a fun app!

*2012-10-19, version 1.3*

This app was so fun to play with! It actually has the character DO the sentence that you create. However, I would get the full version as it has more options.

### 4/5 — Nice Lite Version

*2012-10-18, version 1.3*

Nice app for speech and putting together phrases. The pictures and animations are cute, colorful, and simple with little distraction. This version features the cat only, and has fewer options for customization than he full version.

### 4/5 — Great place to start

*2012-10-18, version 1.3*

Easy beginner app for phrases. Lively animation with vivid colors. Simple instructions for the first time user. A comparison between the lite and full version is found in the information tab.

### 4/5 — Fun App

*2012-10-17*

This is a fun app to use with young children beginning to learn following directions. The animations are cute and preschoolers love them. It's easy to use. There are 3 different phrase formats to choose from. The phrases often need to be tapped a couple of times to be activated. This is frustrating for the user to tap on the phrase and not have anything happen.

### 4/5 — nice

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

this app is wonderful for young children to get used to words and how to use them. very user friendly for little minds and fingers.

### 4/5 — Great speech app

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

Great speech app, the full version is even better........well worth the money! This is a great speech app and will help many children. I like the animations and the recording features. This will help my little guy with his receptive language and expressive language! Thank you.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn't work for long

*2012-09-09, version 1.3*

I used this app quite often and the kids loved it. Unfortunately it doesn't work right any longer. I get the same verb every time. I tried changing things in settings but it didn't help. "Drop the___" gets old real fast. I'd love the app if this could be fixed.

### 2/5 — Needs improvement

*2011-12-12*

There should be a way to disable the pause button because my clients with autism fixate on pushing it repeatedly. Also, they should disable the feature that pauses activity each time you touch the screen bc younger children tend to want to touch the cat which pauses his activity. There is also a problem w/ the record button freezing each time the app launches

### 3/5 — Cute little app

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

Nice little app better responses on this app. Quicker responses on iPad than iPone app. Good for therapy sessions but limited uses otherwise.

### 3/5 — Good app

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

The lite version has 4 simple verbs and 2 verb+prepositions and stores data for 3 users. The full version has more verbs etc and stores data for 15 users. I like how the student can see and hear the elements of the phrase. The cat then demonstrates the action.

### 3/5 — It's okay.

*2012-06-20, version 1.3*

Don't love the animations (look like really simple power point) and the child I did speech therapy with needed longer to record her phrase. We ran out of time nearly every time.

### 3/5 — First int words

*2012-04-19, version 1.2*

It is good for speech l pathologist but need to fixed ASAP . Please I want to play first with my kids and then buy full version

### 3/5 — A suggestion..

*2012-03-05*

I would really like this app if the child had to repeat the phrase and the app could detect if s/he was saying the phrase aloud in order to make the cat character do the animation. It would greatly encourage speech for kids with speech delays. Then it would really be a fantastic app.. My suggestion for a future update!

### 4/5 — First phrases

*2015-04-20, version 1.7*

I like these but I think that when you upgrade you should get credit for the light version you already purchased so that on first phrases you should have the option of a $.99 credit or the $.99 upgrade.with picture the sentence you should get credit for picture the sentence light.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2013-05-04*

First Phrases HD Lite has clean, simple graphics and it is easy to understand how to use this app. It has great parental settings for different elements of the app like Narrator, Levels, Phrase Format, Repetitions, Verbs, Characters, and Recording.
This will be a great app to work on simple sentences with my 4 year old son who has autism and developmental delays. This lite version makes me want to get the full version!

### 4/5 — Good stuff

*2013-01-14, version 1.3*

My favorite part about this series of apps is that you can record your voice. The kids hear is spoken and then get to practice it themselves. That is really good for building their fluency.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2025-03-01*

My grandson is now talking in phrases after using this. He loves the videos. Would love an app to improve articulation from this developer for this age too. Their apps are always well done.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for your kind review. We are glad you are enjoying the app! If you ever have any issues with it, please shoot us an email at info@hamaguchiapps.com

### 5/5 — Great for speech therapists!

*2016-12-07*

Kids love this app, I have had great success using it to get longer phrases and repetitions.

**Developer response:** Thanks! We're really glad the app is working for you! (Sorry for the delay in responding--Apple is just now allowing developers to respond to reviews.)

### 5/5 — A favorite for use with young children

*2013-05-07*

One of my favorite apps! The lite version gives you a very nice taste of what the full version contains- it is actually very full featured for a "lite" app- my young students are really engaged by this app- I use it with my preschool students with special needs- this has been enjoyed by young students with apraxia, autism and/or language impairment. They really seem to think they are "telling" the character what to do. It is great for children with speech and language impairments.

### 5/5 — Great Lite APP!

*2012-11-12*

The lite version provides 4 simple verb forms plus 2 simple verbs and preposition forms. There are different levels and three different uses can be added. The graphics are simple and engaging. I love the recording ability. I like that this app is so very simple to use!

### 5/5 — Great

*2012-11-04, version 1.3*

Great app and a great developer. I have found this app very useful and highly recommend getting the full version. The animations are great also.

### 5/5 — Great 2-3 word sentence app!

*2012-11-04*

For my speech-delayed toddler, who is learning to form 2-3 word phrases, this is a great app. She does need adult support to navigate the app and keep moving the or react direction. The app covers both receptive and expressive speech. The graphics are clear. The app is customizable and allows the user to see and hear the phrase, watch the animation of the action, and then record the statement for playback. Great app!

### 5/5 — Just as great as the full version!

*2012-11-03*

I love the wide range of features on the App! Many different ages of children can benefit from using this educational game. I especially enjoy the "easy play" option in which even toddlers can effectively create a phrase. This App is great for children with speech delays or for children who could just use some help learning how to create logical phrases.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2012-11-02*

I love the pictures, animations and the ability to record and hear the students own voice! I purchased the full version that includes so many more features!

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2012-11-01*

I just love this developer. Fantastic characters and scenerios. Child can record their voice and try again if they don't get it right the first time. Excellent PICS that are easy to understand. Easy 3 word phrases that are commonly used. Great way to get your child to work on phrases instead of just 1 word replies.

### 5/5 — First Phrases HD. Lite

*2012-10-30, version 1.3*

By: Papadiz

This was fun for a lite version for early learners. App functioned as expected. I could envision learners wanting the full version for the increased number of characters and options.
