## What is FirstCutAI?

Point your camera at a piece of furniture. FirstCutAI tells you how to build it, what it's worth, or where it belongs.

FirstCutAI is three tools in one, powered by AI. It reads a single photograph and gives you a smart first cut: a real head start you can act on, print, and share. The tilde in our logo means "approximately," and we mean it. Every result is an honest estimate from one photo, not a certified spec or a formal appraisal.

MAKE, for woodworkers.
Saw a $3,400 sideboard and thought "I want to build that instead"? Photograph any piece and get a complete cut list with finished dimensions for every part, board-feet totals with waste factored in, rough-stock thicknesses in quarter notation, a hardware list with suppliers, regional lumber pricing, scaled part drawings, and a finishing schedule matched to the finish in your photo. Enter exact dimensions by hand, or measure the piece in augmented reality with your camera.

Every cut list unlocks five free shop tools that never use AI credits:
•	Cut Diagram, your parts packed onto real boards, with kerf and glue-up strips. It turns the cut list into a cutting plan, so it is a separate tool on top of the list itself.
•	Shopping List, the buy list for the yard, with check-offs that persist.
•	Shop Mode, a big-type cutting checklist that keeps the screen awake at the saw.
•	Wood Movement, seasonal expansion predictions for every wide panel.
•	Finishing Schedule, coats, grits, and products, readable at the bench.

Then go further. Resize This Piece re-engineers the whole design to your target dimensions. Build Plan writes the joinery specs and a step-by-step build sequence for your skill level. Research a piece first to get its style, period, and joinery, with a Wood Match species profile added automatically. Point the camera at a living tree or a rough-sawn board to identify the species, grade, and best uses. Everything you run saves itself to My Projects and re-exports as a PDF anytime.

THRIFT, for buyers, sellers, and estate hunters.
Get a professional-style appraisal from one photo: identification, period, condition, and three-tier value, what you'd get selling it, what a dealer would charge, and what it would cost to replace. Enter the asking price for a Bargain, Fair, or Too High verdict. Guided Inspection walks you around the piece station by station, where to find maker's marks, how to spot replaced hardware, what crazing in the finish means, and feeds your findings into the appraisal as facts. Enter the piece's dimensions by hand or measure them in augmented reality with your camera, and the true size sharpens both the identification and the valuation.

New in 2.0, the Restoration Advisor. Antiques wisdom says originality IS the value. Before you touch a piece, get a conservator-style verdict: Leave As-Is, Clean Only, Conserve, Restore, or Refinish, with the effect on value, a patina-safe care schedule, and repair steps when repair makes sense.

STYLE, for designers and homeowners.
Photograph a house to see which furniture styles belong in it. Photograph a piece to find its ideal setting. Or start from the material: name or photograph a wood species and get its full profile, grain, hardness, workability, history, and the styles that favor it.

EVERYTHING SAVES ITSELF.
Every report lands in My Projects automatically with its photo and full results. Reports on the same piece group together. Star favorites,

BUILT ON HONESTY.
No tracking, no ads, no analytics SDKs. Your photos are processed only to generate your report and are never used to train AI. When wood-ID confidence is low, the app withholds the result and coaches a better photo instead a shaky ID. Every report carries a verify-before-you-act note, because a first cut is a starting point, not the final word.

HOW IT WORKS.

The largest update we've shipped.

New for woodworkers (Make)
•	My Projects: every analysis auto-saves with its photo, full results, and inputs. Reopen and re-export anytime, free.
•	Cut Diagram: your parts packed onto real boards at your chosen width and length, kerf-aware, with automatic glue-up strips and per-group cost. This is in addition to the cut list, a cutting plan built from it.
•	Shop Mode: a big-type cutting checklist for the bench that keeps the screen awake, with progress saved per project.
•	Shopping List: the buy list for the yard, with check-offs that persist and plain-text export.
•	Wood Movement: seasonal cross-grain expansion per panel, climate and grain aware, with a built-in calculator.
•	Finishing Schedule: coats, grits, and products matched to the finish in your photo, now its own bench-legible shop tool.
•	Resize This Piece (AI): re-engineers the whole design to your target dimensions.
•	Build Plan (AI): joinery specs and a step-by-step build sequence for your skill level.
•	Measure with Camera (AR): capture real width, height, and depth instead of typing, now in both Make and Thrift.
•	Wood Match species profile auto-runs after Research and Run All, with grain, hardness, workability, and finishing notes.
•	Cross-tool bridges: Research to "Make This Piece," and Tree or Lumber to "Furniture for This Wood?"
•	View Full Cut List and Full Research Report on screen, not just in the PDF.

New for thrifters (Buy, Sell, Replace)
•	Restoration Advisor: a conservator-style verdict (Leave As-Is, Clean, Conserve, Restore, Refinish) with value impact, a care schedule, and repair steps.
•	Guided Inspection: a station-by-station walkthrough that teaches the appraiser tells and feeds the appraisal.
•	Build a Reproduction: turn an appraisal into a cut list to build the piece yourself.
•	Measure with Camera (AR) in Thrift: capture true dimensions before an appraisal to sharpen the identification and three-tier valuation, the same AR tool woodworkers use.

Better across the whole app
•	Claude Sonnet 5 upgrade: sharper vision and higher-resolution (2000px) photo analysis.
•	My Projects power features: photo grouping, favorites and stars (including whole groups), long-press and three-dot quick actions (Shop Mode, Shopping List, Restoration), multi-select delete, and a folder button on the home screen.
•	A searchable, comprehensive, rewritten Tips and Guide.
•	Full report viewers so the PDF is no longer required reading (scaled part drawings remain PDF-only).
•	Run All now delivers everything the standalone tools would, including the wood profile.
•	Clearer naming throughout: "Make This Piece?", "Run All Reports", "What Wood Is This?", "Appraise This Piece," with screen titles that match their buttons.

Quality, privacy, and reliability
•	App Store privacy manifest added, security hardening, and zero build warnings.
•	Restore Purchases now recovers stuck token redemptions.
•	Clearer redemption guidance, and a fix for Mac redemptions that could leave tokens uncredited.
•	Fixed a Sonnet 5 parsing failure that briefly affected appraisals, plus mode-neutral onboarding.
