## What is Firstlight Bible?

Firstlight Bible is for people who take notes in church and never read them again.

Record the sermon. Type while you listen — every line you write is stamped to the moment it was said, so a half-finished thought can be played back in the preacher's own voice a week later. When it ends, your iPhone writes the summary: the thesis, the outline, the passages named, and what to do about it.

Your recordings never leave your phone. Transcription happens on the iPhone itself, and the audio stays there. The written parts — the summary, the coach, the devotions — are written by Claude. There is no account and no sign-in, and nobody at this end reads what you wrote.

READ
• Nine translations free to read offline, King James and Berean Standard among them
• Highlight, bookmark, and hold your place in several chapters at once
• Compare a verse across translations
• Thirty more over a connection, New King James and New Living among them

RECORD
• On-device transcription, with speakers separated and named — name a voice once and it is found later
• Recordings are carried by your iCloud account — reinstalling does not lose them

NOTES
• One note whether you record or not — the microphone is optional
• Type a passage reference and verses drop straight into the note
• Scan the bulletin, mark it up, keep it with the gathering — its words are read on-device and feed the summary

KEEP
• Notes, highlights, recordings, and prayers sync through your iCloud
• Organize by gathering — Sunday service, Bible study, or one you name
• Search across scripture, your notes, and what was said out loud
• Share any note, summary, or devotion as plain Markdown
• Siri: add a prayer request, open a passage, ask the coach, start recording

ASK
• A study coach that answers from the passage and your notes
• Or talk something through — a hard week, a decision — answered within your tradition, in plain English, with references you can look up yourself
• It asks before it advises, and hands down no verdicts
• Ask about any verse from the reader without losing your place

DEVOTIONS
• A week of devotions from your own notes, prayers and recordings, inside the tradition you choose
• Or request any length up to a year, laid out day by day: "a 30-day couples devotion"
• Each series adjusts when life does: miss a day and ask it to shift the rest along
• Five minutes or an hour, the same day

PRAY
• Requests spoken aloud in a gathering land automatically on your list
• Grouped by person — multiple requests read as lines under one name
• Note what happened underneath each one, and tick it off when answered
• Pray through the list one person at a time, thanks first, in large type

SUBSCRIPTION
Firstlight Bible requires a subscription. It includes a monthly allowance of generated writing — enough for a normal month — and covers your Family Sharing group. Current pricing is shown in the app and on the App Store page. Charged to your Apple Account, renews until cancelled, cancel anytime in Settings.

If a month runs heavy you can add more writing as a one-off purchase. What you add never expires.

A NOTE ON THE AI
The coach, devotions and summaries are written by Claude, and generated writing can be confidently wrong. Read the passage yourself, and check anything you intend to act on or teach.

When you talk something through it is a thoughtful reader and nothing more — not a counsellor, not your pastor, and not someone who knows you. It will not tell you what to do about a marriage, a job, a diagnosis, money, the law or your medication. If something is urgent, it will say so plainly and tell you to talk to a person today.

Reading, notes, highlights, recording, transcription, scanning, and search work offline. Only generated writing needs a connection. Scripture is drawn from public-domain editions; full credits and licences are in the app under About Firstlight Bible.

Advice, alongside study.
The Coach now has two ways in. Study answers a passage or a question about scripture. Advice is for something going on in your life — a hard week, a decision — answered within your tradition, in plain English, with references you can look up in your own Bible. It asks before it advises, it hands down no verdicts, and your notes are not sent with it.

Pray through your list.
A full-screen view for praying rather than tending the list: one person a screen, large enough to read at a glance, thanks before requests, and the screen stays lit.

Siri.
Add a prayer request, look up or open a passage, ask the coach, or start recording without opening the app.

PRAYER
• Requests found in a recording are checked against your whole list before they are added, so the same need does not arrive twice — including when it is worded differently, like "sickness" and "cancer"
• Captured requests name who they are for, on screen and in exports
• The delete confirmation opens on the row you meant, not the header

RECORDINGS
• Recordings are carried by your iCloud account, so deleting and reinstalling no longer loses them
• Tapping a timestamp in a note starts playback about eight times faster — a recording is re-encoded once the transcript, summary and voices are done with it, which in one case took 439MB down to 18MB
• Start and stop from the Lock Screen
• Stop and Minimise stay reachable while you are typing, instead of being scrolled off the top, and stopping asks first
• Finishing in the background is steadier: the stall that produced a second Live Activity is fixed, and the app no longer promises a long transcription will finish while it is away, because iOS does not always allow that

NOTES AND DEVOTIONS
• "Ask about this" opens over where you asked it instead of navigating away, and the verse comes with it — from a devotion it used to do neither
• Devotion plans lead with the day you are on; finished days sit underneath
• An Uncategorized shelf, and Notes opens on it
• Typing into a bulleted or numbered list no longer comes out in the marker's colour
• Typing a passage reference accepts both shapes, a range or a single verse
• Exported summaries no longer come out missing their body

### 1.1 — 2026-09-18

Verses you are learning by heart now have a shelf of their own. Notes › Library lists every one, where it sits on the ladder and when it comes round again — and lets you take one off if you added it by mistake.

Also in this version:
• Fixed a crash when opening a recorded gathering.
• The grading buttons on a memory verse no longer collapse, so "Not yet" and "Almost" are readable again.
• The writing tools above the keyboard sit in their own pill, so they no longer get lost in the note behind them.
• The greeting on Today follows the time of day.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-17
