Doesn’t work ### 2/5 — Kinda cool, but disappointed. *2026-07-30* I don’t like that you need to have service to measure a fish. Several places I fish have limited service. Also, the remeasuring tool doesn’t seem to work. My only gripe now is that when my phone is on “silent”, I don’t want to hear the AI measuring sound effect! **Developer response:** Thanks for the detailed feedback. The problem that limited loading beyond recent catches has also been resolved. Please update to the latest version and let us know if you notice anything else we’re continuously improving the experience. ### 3/5 — Looks better, performs worse *2026-01-07* The new update is more visually appealing, but the functionality of the social aspect of the app went to trash. The scrolling action locks onto a catch, instead of allowing for a continual smooth scroll. This is fine if you’re an iPad baby that watches reels 16 hours a day, but it makes no sense for this application. It’s also more recently limited me from scrolling past the most recent 5 catches. Please update to the latest version and let us know if you notice anything else we’re continuously improving the experience. ### 2/5 — Christmas gift *2026-01-01, version 3.0.1* I think I’d love it but I can’t sign in with my google account as there’s a bug ### 2/5 — Great Idea, Flawed Execution *2025-06-17, version 2.22.6* I love the idea of the proof ball and using technology to gather measurements on fish that are caught. It’s a progressive way to capture data about the fish we catch on days out on the water. However, the measurements are severely flawed. I started bringing a tape measure with me and verifying the length of my catches against the app and have found that the app is measuring anywhere from 1.25-2.0” greater than what the fish actually measures. The developers have also not included a way for users that are double checking the app with actual measurements to provide that data to enhance the accuracy of the AI. The accuracy measurements are probably somewhere closer to the 70% range than the advertised 90+. Great concept, but it needs a lot of investment with data collection before it can be considered accurate and usable. ### 3/5 — Awesome but needs some work still! *2025-06-02* The AI seems to still be learning the sizes for certain fish. I commonly get .01lb measurements for 14 inch bullheads lol unfortunately the measuring feature has also stopped working with the latest update? The measuring issue in the latest update has been fixed and a new build will be live shortly. ### 2/5 — Does not work with Limited access to photos *2025-06-01* New update will not allow you to use limited access to photos privacy and security features. ### 3/5 — Fish was measured 0 lbs 0” *2025-03-25* I loved the app, so cool. I tried to upload a picture I took earlier for measurement. The AI seemed to recognize my fish, even seemed to measure its width and length, but then gave it 0lbs and 0 inches which was way underestimated. My smallmouth was at least 25lbs. JK cool app but there’s some bug ! Help me fix it ! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — new update lost functionality *2026-08-06* can no longer see a map of acceptable waters for contest.. i.e. before the update the Colorado HALO contest had a map of lakes that were “accepted” as part of the tourney.. now I can’t find that map ### 1/5 — No *2026-03-14, version 3.0.9* First of all there were issues with the app instantly upon installing and wanting to use it. There's not a tutorial anywhere. Second, it claimed that my phone/device storage was almost full so I could not take or use any photos. Completely untrue. I have huge amounts of storage on my phone, as a photographer already. So that wasn't right. Next, what is this orange ball that everyone has? Well, I found out you have to buy that thing. I didn't know I was supposed to purchase anything to use the app. Anyway, I clicked on the little link to buy that little orange ball, and it went straight to Amazon and it said it could not connect the page because they could not find that product. So I'm not going to recommend this, and I am uninstalling this app and not using it at all. ### 1/5 — Everything broke *2026-03-11, version 3.0.8* Photo measurement and map now simply display null errors. Can’t measure my fish 👎 ### 1/5 — Worst fish measuring app yet *2026-02-20, version 3.0.5* Each update keeps getting worse and worse. Less features and less precise measurements? Not looking forward to “version 4”. Do not buy the ball. Just keep a damn scale and measure tape with you. ### 1/5 — Completely non intuitive *2026-01-07* Upgraded to v3 - just cannot figure out how to measure my fish. No visible option to upload existing photo. Shot a video of new catch from within the app - it disappeared. Guys, please make it simple and straightforward, all these social media bells and whistles are worthless if I cannot simply measure my catch. **Developer response:** Thanks for the honest feedback, we’re sorry for the confusion and frustration this caused. We’ve submitted a new build that clearly adds a “Measure” label under the camera button in the bottom navigation to make the measurement flow easier to find. To measure a fish, simply take a photo or video in the app, it’s automatically submitted for analysis. You can check the status and results in your Gallery, where you can then post to feed, save to your profile, or download to your phone. We appreciate you calling this out and are continuing to simplify the experience. ### 1/5 — Don’t register then get a new phone *2025-11-23* Had the ball registered. Worked fine. Got a new phone and the app won’t work. Says ball not registered. Did the addition portion and says the ball is already registered. I’m logged in as the same person. Won’t allow to add. Tech support delay is so long that by the time they respond it’s another day or more. And the solution can be had. ### 1/5 — Over reach *2025-08-31* This app wants access to all photos to measure the length of a couple fish that I have in only a couple photos. Giving access to thousands of photos to an ai app which should only need access to selected photos is dangerous and suggest this company is merely using this app as a data mine to extract personal information. **Developer response:** We understand your concern. Fishtechy does not use your personal photos or data for anything other than measuring your catches. You can grant access to only selected photos when prompted. Appreciate your support! ### 5/5 — Measurements are accurate, cool catch log feature *2025-07-20* I’ve measured probably 30 fish with this app and compared to my net ruler; the app has been remarkably accurate. I 100% trust it, and it’s a fun app. Love love love the SMART log and the measurement pics I get. Super easy to get a catch measurement in seconds with way less fish handling. They update the app a lot … constantly adding features, fixing bugs, etc. So if something is wonky, it gets fixed fast. Support is responsive. American made. Haven’t used the new Challenges feature yet (just released) but my buddies are stoked to use it on our annual trip next month.
