## What is Fitness for amputees?

Your mobile fitness trainer for at home.

The Fitness for Amputees App includes a series of easy-to-understand exercises for leg and arm amputees developed by experienced Ottobock physiotherapists. Up to 6 months after a prosthetic fitting, the app can be your regular companion and provide you with the training you need in this special situation. All you need for the exercises is a mat, a towel and a ball. Once you have installed the app on your device, you can also use it offline.

The app consists of 3 modules for leg prosthesis wearers and 2 modules for arm prosthesis wearers.

The modules for the lower extremity:
- Strength & Endurance: For strengthening the upper body muscles and stabilizing the spine. This is the basis for a natural gait pattern.
- Coordination & Balance: To improve coordination and to support secure standing on the prosthesis. To achieve more comfort and more natural movement sequences.
- Stretch & Relaxation: To relax the muscles and for faster regeneration. With these exercises the flexibility of the muscles can be increased.

The modules of the upper extremity:
- Shoulder: To strengthen the arm and shoulder girdle muscles. With the help of these exercises, poor posture and the resulting back and headaches can be avoided.
- Torso: To strengthen the abdominal and back muscles. To improve the balance, resulting in better stability and more safety with handling the prosthesis.

To achieve the best results, we recommend you to train 2-3 times a week for 5-11 minutes and changing regularly between the respective modules. The 3 levels of difficulty (easy / normal / difficult) allow you to adapt the exercises individually to your physical condition. By changing to a higher difficulty level you can make long-term progress.

More functions and advantages:
- Exercise selection: Either complete a pre-set training program or create your own individual training program
- Music selection: Train to the music available in the app or to your own
- Statistics function: Keep track of your progress and get an overview of the number of exercises you have already completed
- Reminder function: Let the app remind you of your next training session

Download the Fitness for Amputees App now and add it to your daily fitness and rehabilitation program!

### 3/5 — Needs an apple watch app

*2023-12-01*

Needs an apple watch shortcut/ app with the cockpit app for amputees but could do with some upgrades you can tell by how long it takes for certain options, DEFINITELY needs apple watch app since thats all the next generation

### 2/5 — Kinda disappointed

*2020-09-14, version 1.7*

The title is exercised for amputees, so I thought it would have a bigger variety of exercises for multiple levels. Also would’ve thought there would be exercises for those that can’t use prosthetics yet or even at all. I’m a bilateral above knee but one side is a hip disarticulation and I currently can’t use prosthetics due to issues in my left residual limb. I’ve been trying to find a way to stay active and maybe find exercises that would be more tailored towards my level but sadly there wasn’t any.

### 3/5 — No clips of double amputees

*2020-06-03*

I am a double amputee above the knee. In the animations, there are no double amputees. Also not all of the exercises are inclusive for double amputees.

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2020-02-16*

Again this is one where the users would greatly benefit from it supporting Apple Watch. My wrist is always there and in easy sight for me when I’m exercising but my iPhone is usually put away. Please consider an update that will support Apple Watch.

### 2/5 — For single leg amputees only

*2019-11-20, version 1.6*

Sadly all the exercises only cover single above knee or below knee amputees. There are no tips or adapted exercises for double above knee amputees. Apart from some of the stretching exercises, it’s not very useful for the whole range of leg amputees.

### 4/5 — Aerobic Exercise Without Prostheis

*2019-05-10*

I think the exercises are all pretty great. I have found these exercises also to help reduce phantom pain. I can, however, only use a prosthesis in a very limited way for medical reasons and really would also love to know how I can improve aerobic fitness without using a prosthesis. Would be delighted if you could also help with this. 😁

### 1/5 — What’s Happened?

*2018-12-17*

I have been using this app for years and love it. Since the last update I am unable to use it on my iPad. There is no way of accessing the exercises, the screen is the wrong size and words are appearing on top of each other. Not sure what’s happened with it but I sure am disappointed.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Fitness App to help guide you through your rehabilitation

*2017-07-05*

This app is brilliant! It is easy to use and the exercises are ideal for rehabilitation as well as rebuilding your fitness. This app is perfect to get your strength back so you can use your new leg to its fullest. My physiotherapists recommend this app for my daily physio routine at home. Thanks Ottobock Smashed it! If you could add more exercises for those wanting to progress and correct gait and stance control issues - That would be perfect!

### 2/5 — Need improvements!

*2014-07-20, version 1.1*

It a nice app, but what about the users that are double or even triple amputees . A lot of these exercises are meant for single amputees! Which would be nice to incorporate of modified exercises for the triple Amputee!

### 4/5 — Fitness for amputees

*2014-06-20*

Very good app for lower limb amputees, this is excellent as it clearly shows you what to do and is very easy to follow. Basis strength, stamina and balance exercises. may need adapting for double amputees.
