### 3/5 — Cool, Half-Baked & Buggy

*2020-04-21, version 1.2*

Rocketcat is the best, and this is a really fun, great game. But for a roguelike, it is a little half-baked, no way to upgrade your characters over time. But worse is how buggy this game is. Crashing. Issues with delayed moves not initiating. Enemies attacks skipping a turn so your counter/blocks don’t land. Spell counters don’t follow any rules. Pretty frustrating. I’d be happy if the bugs and rules were cleaned up.

### 4/5 — New and Refreshing

*2017-11-09, version 1.2*

4 stars because of lack of updates. It’s a great game that just isn’t finished but the devs seem like they are done with it. It’s fun and unique. I really wish they’d add new character classes. I also wish they would lower gold cost for items at the beginning of the game. Also I ran into a visual glitch bug with a potion heal. Also enemies seem to be a tad off sometimes. They won’t attack when the indicator says it will. Anyway I want more and I hope to see an updated version.

### 4/5 — Love the art style

*2017-02-26, version 1.2*

I mean, it's a creative idea and I love the art, but I don't fully understand how to play and it seems really basic. I don't like the fact that the game ends when you run from a fight. I prefer games that don't constantly start over. But it's still a solid game with good art and a different take on its genre.

### 2/5 — Meh

*2016-09-22, version 1.2*

A 2.5 stars at best, and not good for casual players. I thought I could play it once in a while but while it's okay, it...lacks. Also, the healing thing is terrible.
Not worth the price at all. Don't buy.

### 2/5 — Just get DreamQuest

*2016-07-11, version 1.2*

This is a (very) weak knockoff of one of the best games on the App Store. Although there are some good ideas here, the whole is bland and repetitive. Just get DreamQuest.

### 4/5 — Great little time killer

*2016-06-18, version 1.2*

It's a fun game, but repetitive. The basic design is solid and it requires you to actively think and plan. Unfortunately, there's some balance issues that make it more repetitive than it should be. There's a variety of options to choose, but too many are ineffective. This leads to either sticking to what works or dying. The game is also too padded with fights that are exactly the same. With practically no incentive for battling beyond advancing toward the goal the game feels tedious at times. Despite its flaws, the core gameplay is solid, and it's quite fun in small bursts. It's great as something to distract you while waiting. Definitely better than the the average iOS game.

### 4/5 — Great game, too much obfuscation

*2016-06-08, version 1.2*

The battle mechanics are engaging and a nice spin on traditional turn-based combat. What keeps it from being a 5 star game is that so much information is hidden which makes it harder to plan your turns and make skillful plays. The longer you play the more you'll get a rough feeling for how much damage your cards do but this is just an unnecessary learning curve which detracts from strategic planning. Gives us an option to view the numbers behind the cards instead of vague descriptions like "little/lot of damage".

### 2/5 — It's a great game but...

*2016-06-05, version 1.2*

I want to give this 5 stars because it's a genuinely good combat system with some cool strategy. But it has three crippling issues

1. It's unbalanced. You basically have to have a Guard in your party, because HP conservation is important and guards have all the good damage-avoiding abilities. Also, the Priest and Mage are significantly better than the Rogue and Archer.

2. The replay value is low. It would have been easy to add something like a simple "do less damage take more damage" hard mode or a challenge mode with more limited cards or weaker character classes, but they didn't, and there really isn't much to do after you win for the first time, except maybe try a no-guard run. Also the golden shuffle is pretty useless.

3. And most crippling of all: It's incredibly buggy. Enemies don't show up in the correct positions, sometimes attack indicators show up when they're not supposed to, enemies sometimes delay their attacks for no reason, cards that say they give you a free turn occasionally just fail to do so, and a lot of the card descriptions flat out lie to you. Among these: the rogue's vanish sometimes causes him to disappear indefinitely instead of attacking the following turn, the archer's tactical shuffle sometimes doesn't interrupt the enemy, the guard's mirror shield blocks and reflects all damage, not half (and is incidentally the most broken move in the game because of this), the archer's injury to insult targets the wrong enemy and doesn't do any extra damage, and the priest's Wither move WILL kill him if he uses it at low health, despite the description saying it won't, and what's more, if he dies while casting it, the attack just stops.

If the bugs were fixed, I would upgrade this to 4 stars but as it stands, I can't give it more than a 2.

### 2/5 — Great with some must-fix bugs

*2016-02-24, version 1.2*

Love this game, but there are bugs that inconsistently impact state. For example, I increased health at a fountain and used an item going into battle. In battle the fight crashed. I can live with that, but when starting the app after the crash the fountain is used, the item is gone, and my health is at pre-fountain levels. So I'm impacted beyond the crash because I'm returned to a game state that never existed.

Update: three times now the game permanently hangs on the first screen to continue a saved game. When I tap continue the screen almost fades out and I can see the big "V" flickering. Killing the app doesn't help. I have to start over to play. Dropping from 4 to 2 stars.

### 4/5 — Excellent game but could be a little deeper

*2016-02-04, version 1.2*

I love the idea but wish there was character progression that went a little deeper. Perhaps I need to get farther into the game but the same few cars each class has does get a little old. Still, the game is fun, very easy to pick up and the art direction is new and refreshing. Well worth the money.

### 4/5 — Good

*2016-02-01, version 1.2*

Enjoyed the game, but there are a lot of bugs

### 4/5 — Fun, but not alot of variety

*2016-01-30, version 1.2*

1st try: I got to the void 1st page. 2nd try: I beat the game, so relatively easy for me. Not alot of randomization when it comes to the dungeons. Both times played the layout seemed very similar along with what the vendors sell as well. Fighting is very repetitive. The guard is by far the best unit(1v5'd with the guard as last alive). If I were to give some tips I'd say start with the archer(highest damage dealing class) & guard. Rogue is pretty solid too. Priest is good for final battle. Mage is average. Basically, all you gotta do is take the least amount of dmg possible. Avoiding dmg is more important than dealing dmg. There's a skull indicator when an enemy is about to strike across. So you try to "interrupt" them or move into a different lane so your guard can tank the hit. The game needs more variation. Perhaps they should add equips for the units and monster loot

### 2/5 — Bugs and lack of polish spoil a good concept

*2015-12-07, version 1.1*

Too buggy to enjoy... game freezes using certain cards, couldnt continue game after reaching a few levels. Needs an update to be usable

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2015-11-19, version 1.1*

Not bad for a $3 game. It takes some getting used to and some fights can get annoying but it's fun. Worth a shot.

### 3/5 — Close to greatness

*2015-11-14, version 1.1*

If this game were made by anyone besides Rocketcat I would have rated it far worse. However, I am confident they will fix it with time. The gameplay is fun but buggy and confusing. My save appears to have been corrupted somehow and when attempting to load simply makes the screen flash rapidly. In its current state, I cannot truly recommend this game. If patched properly I have high hopes but in its current state it seems rushed.

### 4/5 — Five Card Quest

*2015-11-11, version 1.1*

I really wanted to give this game five stars, but two things are holding me back. The first is the lag in some of the battles, and second is the confusion about some of the cards you can play. I think a tutorial would definitely be beneficial. I personally like the "simple" look of the game. Fix the lag, and have a tutorial, and this will definitely be a five star game. I know you can make this happen Rocketcat!

### 3/5 — Fun, but gets old quickly

*2015-11-11, version 1.1*

This game is mechanically great. However, there is little reason to keep going. You only have 3/5 characters, they barely improve, gain no new strategies, items are boring, and there are no objectives.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Glitchy after the fourth level

*2019-01-14, version 1.2*

Kept hanging up at the same point in the fourth dungeon. Started over twice with same results

### 1/5 — Grind

*2017-03-21, version 1.2*

The game offers little to no depth. I bought this game once I demolished dream quest and it was listed in the related field. It was the same price but offered 1/100th of the content. Avoid.

### 1/5 — Makes no sense

*2016-11-21, version 1.2*

What looked like a fun game is nothing but a lesson in frustration. Card descriptions either lie or are incorrect, game will not explain ANYTHING to you, least of all the turn system which the whole game revolves around. Save your money.

### 1/5 — No Instructions on How to Play

*2016-01-31, version 1.2*

No first round that guides you through game mechanics.
No help menu that explains the game.

Tried 3-4 games and thought would pick up intuitively how to play the game.

Nope. Useless.

### 1/5 — Shallow and disappointing

*2015-11-02, version 1.1*

As far as I can tell there is no way to level in this game. You get a predetermined set of resources and then try to go as deep as possible in a randomly generated dungeon. But what kind of card game doesn't let you collect new cards? The cards that you start with are all that you'll ever get and and the deck just isn't big enough to be interesting. As it is gameplay seems shallow and I am kind of regretting buying this now.

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2015-11-01, version 1.1*

Updated 11/1: gave this game a 3rd try and it's still awful. Uninstalled.

Updated 10/31: company update the game to reset poor reviews. Still laggy as before, still a rip off. Don't buy

Original review:
Laggiest game on my phone at the moment (iPhone 5S latest updates). Game feels like a beta but the graphics look like a 5yr old arts and craft. There is zero tutorial and zero help. The buttons are not intuitive and the effects are so lagged that you cannot even guess what the buttons do. Waste of $3, I will be emailing apple why they allow garbage beta apps to be published.

### 2/5 — So much potential

*2018-06-04, version 1.2*

And yet so much wasted on cards that don't act the way they're supposed to. That, combined with graphics that glitch sometimes make what could be a great game frustrating enough to rage quit often.

### 2/5 — Great, but broken.

*2017-07-13, version 1.2*

I love the game! Unfortunately, there are some game-breaking bugs. They're mostly related to the game crashing during a battle (or sometimes, completely glitching out during battle making it nearly unplayable). After restarting, you've lost all your items and health, etc., with nothing to show for it. This ruins all of your strategy planning for the level and has more than once been the direct and instant cause of my defeat.

I would love to return with an updated rating for the game if the battle bug is resolved, because I enjoy playing it up until the inevitable break down.

### 2/5 — Not worth 3$

*2017-01-11, version 1.2*

It's a rogue-like card game with a poor UI. Cards do not give proper info like amount of damage they do, there's no way to tell the play sequence, i.e. who is attacking next turn and it overall has very low replayability in my opinion. Might be ok for 99 cents but not 2.99. Waste of money as is.

### 2/5 — Disappointing bugs, UI

*2016-11-04, version 1.2*

I tried hard to like this. The graphic style and core ideas are good, but this feels very unfinished. There are bugs with incorrect messages showing up and play behaviors that don't trigger correctly. The turns play out in a baffling sequence, and it's crippling never to know what will count as the "next" turn and the sequence of play within that turn. There is no visual feedback for basic aspects like whose turn is being played out, who has what buff/debuff, or how many turns until an action will trigger. The few visual cues that do exist, like the blinking skull on an enemy about to attack, are cheap looking, not at all clear, and not always accurate. Given that all of these things are fundamental to this kind of game, I can't recommend it currently.

### 5/5 — Five card quest

*2016-02-10, version 1.2*

Great rougelik!!

### 5/5 — Fun game!

*2016-01-25, version 1.2*

Love it!

### 5/5 — Five Card Quest

*2016-01-15, version 1.2*

This game is fantastic - once I played a couple games and got comfortable with the mechanics and animations/attack patterns, the gameplay really opened up. I wanna say it's like a card battler, roguelike, RPG-lite type game, but it combines all of these elements so flawlessly that it doesn't come across as a hybrid game. It's just so beautifully done on every spectrum. The game does lag a bit on my iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2, but that's kind of to be expected by now with my ancient device and outdated OS... however, when I upgrade, this will be one of the first handfull of titles to get switched over to the new phone. Just like Mage Gauntlet and Wayward Souls, this game will be on my phone until it doesn't work anymore. THANK YOU FOR SUCH AN AMAZINGLY WELL DONE GAME, ROCKETCAT!!!!

**update**

Thank you for the update! I didn't think you guys could, but the performance enhancements really made the game play a LOT smoother on my phone. The new card menus, battle info and icons letting you know when enemies will hit were all fantastic additions to this already great squad based rogue-like.

### 5/5 — Great game with too low ratings :(

*2015-12-13, version 1.1*

Can't believe this game is getting such low ratings. It's absolutely phenomenal but I do suppose it's not for everyone. It feels like an unwinnable chess match... But that's just fine with me. Your only form of progress or achievement is surpassing where you previously reached and I love every second of it. Seems as it's going to receive Dev support so yet another reason to love it. All in all, it is definitely not for everyone but I without question recommend it to anyone who enjoys this style and type of game.

### 5/5 — A bug fix away from perfect

*2015-11-14, version 1.1*

This is exactly what I look for in a game. It's a careful balance of simple and deep. There aren't many actions to take, but there's an exceptionally deep level of synergy to explore.

There are a few bugs (a card that isn't supposed to kill the priest kills the priest, random game ending bugs) to work out, but once they're gone there is 0 reason not to pick this one up.

### 5/5 — Bug fixed

*2015-11-01, version 1.1*

The following bug seems to be fixed.

--

When your enemy employs a vanish move, you can no longer attack him. Sometimes he just doesn't show up again and you can't finish the battle.

### 5/5 — Fun and Nice Concept

*2015-10-31, version 1.0*

I am enjoying this game. It is fun to view the available cards to pick the best action. Since you can stop at most points, it is good for making progress when you only have a few minutes available. I Recommend this.

### 5/5 — Very fun

*2015-10-31, version 1.1*

I'm not very good at lane-based strategy games, or card games even, but I'm having a lot of fun with this one. I love the art style, and the music is fantastic to boot. Looking forward to getting better and finally beating the game!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2015-10-31, version 1.0*

It's from Rocketcat Games, everything they make is awesome. Just buy it along with everything else they've made.

### 5/5 — Tactics!

*2015-10-29, version 1.0*

I love this game. I'm all about turn-based tactical games and he fact that the game just drops you into it, without any tutorial was at first, disorienting, but once I got going, it was pretty cool. You learn how best to play as you go along. The visuals are beautiful and the different attacks of each class are unique. Eye say they want to make more of these, I say please do!
