## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.5 — 2026-09-10

Results that say the same thing everywhere

How sure the app is now reads the same on every screen. A result that says
"Possible match" in your History says "Possible match" when you open it —
before, the two screens were measuring different things and could disagree
about the same diagnosis.

The threshold behind that wording was also wrong for what it was applied to,
which pushed almost everything into the red "Low match" band — and made a more
specific answer score worse than a vague one. It is rebuilt, so the wording now
tracks what the app actually knows.

The heading is the category.

The largest text on a result is now the broad category, which is the level the
app is most often right about, with the specific fault underneath as the
qualifier it is. Where naming a specific fault would be a guess, the app stops
at the category and tells you so, rather than showing something precise with a
confident-looking number beside it.

Parts and tools that match the actual repair

The supplies list came from a keyword table that only knew about cars, so a
boat teak refinish was offered a socket set and a "replacement part". It now
comes from the same repair guide you are reading — all 2,262 of them — so the
list matches the job.

Your History opens the whole diagnosis.

Tapping a saved diagnosis used to show a cut-down summary card. It now opens
the full result, with repair instructions, parts and tools, and support options,
the same page you saw when you ran it. Older saved diagnoses come back too,
with whatever detail was stored for them.

Choose your engine

Every plan can now pick which on-device engine runs a diagnosis, in Settings.
New engines can arrive without waiting for an App Store update, and the app
quietly checks for one in the background.

Scan without installing

The App Clip is a working diagnosis now: open it from a code or a link, point
the camera at the problem, and get the category and how strong the match is,
then carry it into the app. No account, nothing uploaded — it runs on the
device.

Also in this release

With a paired OBD-II reader, Settings can stream live readings from the
vehicle's computer, showing only the sensors your vehicle actually reports.

Fixed

Connecting to an OBD-II reader that was out of range could hang the app.
Vehicle identification numbers could come back garbled, a trouble code could be
read as a different one, and "no trouble codes found" could really mean the app
never reached the vehicle at all. A home diagnosis could show a label like
"Av". Buttons and controls that drew in the system tint — the camera's Use
Photo bar, share and PDF views, alert buttons — were nearly invisible against
the app's dark background.

### 1.4.4 — 2026-08-22

- **Parts and Tools lists what the repair actually needs (2026-08-20).** It was
built from a keyword table — "battery", "tire", "leak", "brake" — whose every
branch is automotive, with a generic fallback for everything else. A boat teak
refinish matched nothing and was offered a socket set and "Replacement part
matching the confirmed issue", while the Repair Worksheet for the *same*
diagnosis listed teak cleaner, teak oil, seam caulk and bungs. Both read the
same bundled guides; only the worksheet was using them. Supplies now come from
the guide's own "What You'll Need" section, which all **2262** bundled
  templates carry.

A more accurate engine and an honest confidence number

Sapphire 4.3 is a full retrain of the on-device diagnosis models. It picks the
right broad category — car, home or boat — 89% of the time, up from 83%, and
gets both the category and the specific area right about a third more often
than the engine Sapphire 4.0.

When the model can't clearly separate two or three possibilities, the result
now lists them in order instead of showing only the winner. The right answer is
in that short list far more often than it is first, so it is worth a look
before you start work.

Confidence now means something different — read it before you compare.

The percentage used to average the steps of a diagnosis, which ignored the
chance of a wrong turn early on. It is now the likelihood that the whole
diagnosis is right, so the numbers read lower than they used to. Nothing got
worse; the old figure was flattering. When the app isn't sure enough about the
broad category, it now stops there and says so rather than guessing at a
specific fault and sounding certain about it.

Severity ratings are fixed.

Brake, engine, electrical, fuel and steering problems were being rated "Low"
regardless of how serious they were. Severity is now judged properly across
every category, and a dangerous specific fault — a fuel leak, say — raises the
rating even when the category sounds mild.

Tell us when we get it wrong.

Every result now has a one-tap "Was this right?" If it wasn't, the app offers
its other candidates, so correcting it is usually a single tap. Your answers
stay on your device and are what teach the models to do better.

Describe the problem, and it now counts.

What you type or say on the Diagnose screen used to be saved with the result
but never used. It now helps decide the answer — useful when a photo alone
can't tell two things apart, like an alternator and the belt driving it.

Sapphire 4.3 — a new diagnosis engine

The on-device models have been fully retrained. Sapphire 4.3 runs a Vision
Transformer alongside the classifier cascade for sharper calls across cars,
boats and homes, and the Home and Diagnosis screens now show which engine is
running. Boats gained five new problem areas: sterndrive/outdrive, trailer,
propane/LPG galley, refrigeration and trim tabs.

Repair guides written for your exact problem

The guide library grew from 106 to over 2,200 — one for each specific fault
the app can identify, instead of one per broad category. A boat autopilot
that won't hold course used to get the same guide as one with a leaking
hydraulic ram; now each has its own steps, tools, safety notes and time
estimate. Every guide was rewritten for the new Sapphire 4.3 knowledge
edition.

Diagnose without a photo.

Some problems have nothing to photograph — an intermittent noise, a smell, a
warning light that has already cleared. Tap "No picture? Tap here to describe
the problem", choose Car, Boat or Home, then type or dictate what's wrong.
You get a ranked list of possible causes rather than a single guess, and you
can keep adding symptoms to narrow it down. It all runs on your device; your
description never leaves your phone.

Get your diagnoses back on a new phone.e

History can now pull your backed-up diagnoses down from the cloud. Previously
the app only ever uploaded them, so a new phone or a reinstall meant an empty
History even though everything was safe on the server. Restoring never
overwrites anything already on your device. Backups now also carry the
diagnosis, confidence, severity, repair instructions, ns and your problem
description alongside the photo, so a restored diagnosis comes back complete.

Two-factor sign-in

If your account has two-factor authentication turned on, you can now sign in
on iPhone and iPad. Enter your email and password, then the code from your
authenticator app — a six-digit code submits itself as soon as you finish
typing, and iOS can fill it in for you.

Your diagnosis allowance follows your account.

Your plan's allowance is now tracked on a rolling 30-day window by the
server, so it moves with your account across devices and reinstalls instead
of resetting when you switch phones. The Diagnosis screen shows what's left
and when it resets. Diagnoses run offline are counted once you're back
online, and only a diagnosis that finishes is counted — a failed analysis is
free.

Fixed

Diagnoses saved while offline were marked "Cloud backed up" as soon as the
network returned, without ever being uploaded. They now upload for real and
stay queued if the upload fails.
