### 3/5 — Doesn’t work with law stop.

*2024-05-02*

Read Agreement
8. MOBILE DRIVER'S LICENSE AND USAGE. Pursuant to state laws, the mobile driver's license provided by the Application MAY NOT be recognized as an official form of identification. It is intended as a companion to your physical identification card that CAN BE used to verify your age, identity, or driving privileges in specific instances. You must carry your physical identification card with you and present your physical identification card when asked for - do not solely rely on the Application for identification purposes. The use of this Application is further subject to your Participation Agreement with Thales.

Great idea, but still has flaws.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about your Florida Smart ID app experience. We look forward to expanding into a variety of uses once it is fully released.

### 1/5 — App does update age after birthday

*2023-05-22*

The app has its pros and cons. I’ve had the FL Digital ID app on my phone for over a year, and I’m not impressed. The app is basic, which, to be fair, is to be expected since it’s a digital version of your license. I’ve submitted several issue tickets that my ID is not updating my age. My digital ID does not reflect a change in my age since my birthday in February. This may be a good thing if I want to remain a year younger, but a bad thing if the person verifying my ID understands basic mathematics. This bug could make it appear as if my ID is a digital fake or forgery. I believe Florida needs to stop screwing around and adopt the Apple Digital ID if they want a successful implementation of a secure digital driver's license program. Thanks for Trying Florida, but we, the people, ask that you move forward and implement Apple’s Secure Drivers License alongside the current digital offering and see which one is more likely to be adopted by your citizens. At the same time, I think you will also see which is more secure with less security risk and bugs issues.

**Developer response:** While the Florida Smart ID apps continue to be tested, we appreciate hearing about your experience.

### 1/5 — Big pile of trash

*2023-03-29*

Just like our Governor this app is a huge pile of trash.

It failed the first four times I tried registering. I’m stunned by how incredibly bad Thales has failed here. I know Thales is a competent company they should be embarrassed to take Florida taxpayers money and deliver this piece of garbage.

Easily the worst UI/UX I’ve seen on iOS.

It really makes me wonder if they farmed development out to a third world country. Some of the errors are in broken English. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Florida paid Thales to farm development out to India or Russia.

I did notice in the EULA the address provided was in Austin Texas, it kind of bothers me they didn’t use a Florida based firm. It’s not like anyone in Florida could have done a worse job.

Also Thales don’t give me the same canned response about how this is being tested. The only thing that needs testing is my phone for cancer after installing this.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Just terrible and people don’t know what to make of it

*2023-02-22, version 2.6.0*

Just terrible.

My favorite thing to hate about this app is the need for a passcode, separate from the iPhone’s passcodes and FaceId, that needs to be entered on a screen where the numbers all change position. This is not “security.” It’s just a mess.

Try an using this app to present your drivers license anywhere — a bank, a bar, a police officer, a voting booth — nobody knows what this is. It’s basically useless.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2023-02-11, version 2.6.0*

Just like everything else the government spends money on, this doesn't work. I typed in all my info and the app just freezes up. Idk who’s Idea it was to spend nearly half a million of taxpayer dollars on this but you need to get your money back!

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work

*2023-01-25, version 2.4.9*

The app fails at the photo processing step, sending you back to the start and forcing you to input all the information time and time again.

Seems like a waste of public funds so far. Someone in Tallahassee and the vendor need be held accountable for this poor product.

### 1/5 — Nothing working

*2023-01-11, version 2.4.9*

To activate you need a QR . I don’t where to get it. The app ask to enroll, I did and then what No QR found anywhere not after login in on line not by email nothing. By the way the picture is hard to get and it’s not recognized. Like I said NOTHING is working. Do not waste your time. I cannot rate less one star.

### 2/5 — Well, it’s certainly an app.

*2022-12-30, version 2.4.9*

This app would have passed muster a decade ago, before biometric identification was normalized. Other reviews have already skewered its UX, but it seriously feels like something that would’ve been released in the early ‘10s. Too many taps to get around, a frankly incredible option to use online or offline verification, an absolutely aggravating PIN system… this honesty feels more like a proof of concept than something a competent developer ought to be putting their name on.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about your Florida Smart ID app experience. We appreciate it, and look forward to expanding into a variety of uses once it is fully released.

### 4/5 — Let’s see…

*2022-12-30, version 2.4.9*

Jeez, the majority of the reviews are just ruthless. Set up was fairly simple and I love the concept. I’m only giving it 4 stars for now until I come across a situation where I need to use it. I will then update the review accordingly. It’s definitely a step in the right direction and excited to see this get better.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2022-12-19, version 2.4.9*

Apparently they haven’t done much work on this app. Been trying for 30 mins, does not scan the barcode ever, sometimes the picture part works, most it does not and fails to confirm picture when it actually takes one. As stated above, useless!!

### 1/5 — Why does this app exist?

*2022-12-11, version 2.4.9*

Why does this ridiculous app exist which appears to be made 15 years ago by a child. Just use Apple’s tools to integrate directly with Apple Wallet and call it a day. So much time and resources spent for no reason. Yet another absurd example of government waste and incompetence.

### 4/5 — Great start with room to improve

*2022-12-03, version 2.4.9*

It’s nice to see identification move into the 21st-century. Great step in the right direction.

Support for biometric authentication like Face ID, Apple Wallet, and TSA compatibility is still missing. Minor UI Improvements needed for newer display types and sizes.

Also, the state needs to do a better job communicating to businesses this is now valid form of ID. Particularly liquor license holders should be informed of this new digital ID presentation and verification method.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Acceptance by businesses is still limited as the Florida Smart ID apps continue to be tested, but we look forward to expanding acceptance soon.

### 1/5 — Basic app needs a lot of work

*2022-11-30, version 2.4.9*

I get that Florida isn’t much for modern conveniences or joining the 21st century under current leadership but this app could certainly be better and easier to use. Also, why are there three (THREE!!) different versions of this app available. Are the developers not sure how this works? Did they “win” a contract cause they know Ron? It’s a great concept. But executed better by every other state. Kind of like the covid tracking. Oh sorry. We don’t have that either.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2022-11-06, version 2.4.9*

No one has to enter a security pin to see my physical drivers license, why do I need this security in the app? Why is it that Face ID only worked once and then it kept asking for the pin? Why does the number pad need to keep rearranging all of the numbers each time? This just makes the app annoying and inconvenient to use with unnecessary levels of security.

The app doesn’t follow iOS design principles. Would have been nice if app was made by developers with iOS experience.

### 1/5 — Desperately needs Apple Wallet Integration

*2022-11-04, version 2.4.9*

The app looks exactly like you’d expect a government-produced app would. It’s utilitarian by design, but could be more intuitive. I was able to set up my Digital ID, but I really would like to add it to my Apple Wallet. The agency confirmed they were working with Apple over a year ago, but we still don’t have the option to add our license/Digital ID to Apple Wallet. This would expedite the TSA process at several airports, and growing. Please add this much needed feature so Florida looks ahead of the curve for once.

### 1/5 — Complete Failure

*2022-10-23, version 2.4.9*

App simply does not work. Attempted to scan my Florida drivers license numerous times with numerous fails finally was able to scan their drivers license after attempting to manually enter the data. The manual attempt also was met with abysmal results. Then I had to take a picture of my face camera did not activate on numerous attempts on about the fifth attempt and it finally activated and I got a picture only to have the photo not match even though it is me. These are all things the developer needs to fix before this will ever be adopted widespread by the public. I may try again as the ideas excellent but the implementation a complete waste of taxpayer money at this point.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wonder how many bad reviews it takes….

*2024-06-10*

Honestly, this is so far a horrible experience. I can’t even get past the screen after scanning my drivers license. How can this even be legal? To represent a state in the USA and not have a proper app.
Let’s not even mention about the design, cause if the app worked I wouldn’t have to look at it everyday.
Also why must I HAVE to agree to notifications?
I wish I could even register.
My friend tried using it at the airport (he’s the one that put me on) and it didn’t even scan, he missed his flight… 🤣🤣🤣 truly a failure on all fronts. Hey Thales, I don’t want an automatic response about “thank you for your feedback, just FIX THE APP. It has so much functionality potential.

### 1/5 — Literally does not work

*2024-06-01*

I have my physical ID and was trying to scan it in order to have it available digitally in this app, however when it gets to the point of scanning your face to ensure it matches your ID photo, the app literally would not work at all. Just refused to take a photo of my face despite perfect lighting and me looking exactly like my ID photo. No matter what button you press, or how many times you redo the process. I tried the route of logging in through the DMV instead, and despite having every piece of info available that was requested, the app was STILL unable to verify me. Thanks for wasting 30 mins of my life!

### 1/5 — Senior Class Project Level App

*2024-05-11*

I really wanted this app to work, despite the 2 star rating it had and the negative comment I read. If i could carry my driver’s license on my phone, I wouldn’t have to carry a wallet anymore, since all my credit and loyalty cards are on my apple wallet anyhow.

It took several tries to load the driver’s license barcode, which was mildly frustrating. To make matters worse, it couldn’t take my photo no matter how many times i zoomed in and out of my face and pressed the Continue button. I restarted several the app times to confirm it was not user error.

This app still feels like it’s in Beta version. I’m not sure that my information with it. Florida needs to stop messing around and adopt the Apple Digital ID. It seems so much easier to use than this senior class project of an app. Further, what’s the difference between the app and the verifier app? That should be clear right from the description. The people at Thales have a long way to go if they want to deliver an app that will have widespread adoption and support.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — App Doesn’t seem to work

*2024-05-09*

I registered with Florida ID a while back. Now when I access the app there isn’t any information on me and it puts me through the registration process. When I’m in the middle of the process I get and email saying I’ve already registered and must delete my ID if I want to re-enroll. There isn’t any information in the app so I went to the DMv portal and deleted my FL ID (also not a pleasant process). When I returned to the Fl ID app, I get to the end of the registration process and it tells me it failed and to try again. After 6 times I gave up. Not sure of the value of app anyway if you still haven’t carry your DL when driving.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — So bad it takes your breath away

*2024-04-27*

The App doesn’t work. Scanner doesn’t scan the barcode of my drivers license….So I manually enter my license info….then a pop up screen says my info doesn’t match dmv info….next time I retry to manually enter the info and submit the app just freezes…also if you take more than 20 seconds to get info like drivers e license number app automatically logs off so you have to re enter everything from the beginning. Sincerely I don’t understand how an app can be this bad unintentionally. Someone should make a documentary going down the rabbit hole of layers upon layers of incompetence and lack of effort necessary for this app to exist.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Thales was paid $1.8M by the state of Florida to create this app…

*2024-03-16*

... which is surprising given that it appears to have been designed by an 8 year old and programmed by a 7 year old.

If I had to pick my favorite design element it's probably that the app was made to look and feel like it's 15 years old... even though it was released just a tew years ago #retro.

I didn't think that US defense contractors could be outdone in their ability to create a product that's worth pennies on the dollar, but Thales (a French defense contractor) delivered... a true testament to the quality of their software engineers.

Every time that I was forced to restart the registration process, I was reminded how thankful l am that our hard earned tax dollars were shipped off to the continent known for their hardworking culture.
In conclusion, a BIG thank you to Thales and the French government for creating such a wonderful app. Please spend the remaining $1,799,900 wisely after the monster $100 you spent on development.
I'd suggest a nice bottle of Champagne or Bordeaux (or i guess juice boxes* for your design/dev team)

* I'd imagine it's probably spelled "jeus beauxes" in France

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Basically useless

*2023-12-15*

The app does not function at all. The barcode scanner does not work so you have to enter the information manually. And if you for any reason leave the app for example to answer a call or text during this process, you have to start all over. Then it does not recognize or take a picture of your face when prompted to verify, you can try all the lighting and positions you like, it simply will not work. And then to top it all off, you find out they spent millions of tax payer dollars on this, only for it to be this bad. Please stop trying to make this a thing and just use the Apple wallet ID system.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2023-12-10*

My phone is an iPhone 15 Pro with a great camera; only about two months old. I cannot scan my Driver License because the app will not focus on the barcode. When I enter my information manually the app accepts it, but then when I get to the step to take the picture of my face to compare with the Driver License, the app will not take a picture. I don’t know how much the state of Florida paid for this app or it’s development but it is essentially warm dog water. I have a three month old kitten that could probably produce better results.

### 1/5 — Who took the money and ran

*2023-08-26*

I’d be totally embarrassed to have my name associated with this irritating app. Proof that if you want a poor it outcome, hire a defense contractor. Looks like from Stone Age with many non functional aspects, slow loads, inability to back up, and clear disregard for built in Apple security infrastructure. Why are the digits on the passcode keyboard scrambled each time? Why not leverage Wallet infrastructure? I expect to see little competence from Florida these days, but even this surprised me.

Clearly, someone took a pile of money and ran. Total crap ware. Heads need to roll at Thales and florida dmv for this mess. Other states paved the way, what’s wrong with florida? Hope there is a legislative investigation.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

### 1/5 — App is garbage

*2023-07-22*

This app is actual garbage. For starters when it asks you to scan your ID it is never actually able to scan it. Then when it asks for face verification to verify your face with your id it also doesn’t work either. They also let you set up your id in the app from there website which also isn’t able to complete the verification. The app also like to crash every now and then which is very convenient.

Save your time and don’t download this useless app

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you're having issues with the app. Please contact us at ITSM.ibs.flsmartid-support@apps.thalesgroup.com for assistance. Thank you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works perfectly!

*2023-03-22*

After visiting the FLHSMV website, I found this app. A digital version of a drivers license is a good idea. If you ever lose your wallet, this can be used to prove your ID. I agree with the other reviews that the drivers license should be able to be loaded into the digital wallet of the phone instead of using a separate app. There are other states that allow the use of the digital wallet. A key take away from this is that you need to go to the FLHSMV website first and then follow the instructions. You cannot simply download this app and expect your drivers license or state ID to magically appear here.

**Developer response:** Thank you for comments. Glad to hear of your positive experience with Florida Smart ID.

### 5/5 — Face ID featured should be added

*2023-01-17, version 2.4.9*

The app is fine it works, but having to use a six pin on the randomize keyboard is awkward. Would it be possible to add the face ID or fingerprint ID that is so common now on secure apps on the iPhone

### 5/5 — Be TSA friendly

*2022-11-01, version 2.4.9*

I’ve been stopped many times by cops and would hand them my phone with smart ID. Only thing I hope for is us airport verification as well as car rentals

### 5/5 — Seems to work fine

*2022-09-30, version 2.4.9*

For all the bad reviews I’ve figured this app would be a nightmare. Sign up process was pretty easy and in app navigation is self explanatory. I would advice to some character recognition, such as ( ) and -

Everything else is fine but I do agree that it should have an Apple wallet component so that it can be used while the phone is locked.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it.

### 5/5 — So cool!

*2022-07-01, version 2.3.1*

What a cool feature/app! To be able to have a digital license is a win/win! It’s very convenient.

### 5/5 — Works Great

*2022-06-10, version 2.3.1*

App works as advertised on my Apple IPhone 12. He it is a little slow in its connecting to server. I am hoping you are sharing this technology with police department in cities like Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale so that cops don’t look at you like your crazy and don’t have the proper apps preloaded on their phones to use this. This needs a ton of marketing and should have commercials to download this app and educate the residents of the state of Florida

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your experience with the Florida Smart ID app. Once testing is completed and the apps are fully released, we look forward to expanding acceptance with citizens, business and law enforcement throughout Florida.

### 5/5 — Needs some work.

*2022-06-07, version 2.3.1*

Only giving this a 5 star based on the fact that I love the idea. But it definitely falls short on expectations. Hopefully with future updates I’ll be able to add my ID 🪪 to my Apple Wallet with out need to actually open up the APP every time.

### 5/5 — Wonderful Tool

*2022-01-21, version 1.1.0*

Very wonderful tool to have at any time! Setup only takes 10 minutes just requires you to verify and enroll through the link under QR verification at setup. Thank you for the convenience!

### 5/5 — Follow instructions on FLHSMV Site

*2021-12-21, version 1.1.0*

Instructions in the app are currently somewhat lacking. I think this is because the app isn’t officially rolled out to the public yet. Follow the instructions on the FLHSMV site and it’s very easy to use. No where I have tried has picked up the Reader App yet but I assume it’s because this is in such an early stage. Excited for this to roll out more broadly and that Florida is doing something first for once!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback Jackson. While the app is still in Beta version, we do appreciate your input regarding the app instructions and your excitement for using Florida Smart ID as it becomes more broadly available. We’re also excited to roll this out, including with businesses and merchants, so stay tuned for upcoming official public announcements about Florida Smart ID!

H.Adamsen, Florida Smart ID by Thales

### 4/5 — Not accepted in most circumstances

*2024-05-25*

I have had the app since my last license renewal (close to 2 years). I love the convenience of the Florida Smart ID. Unfortunately it requires cooperation from law enforcement and private entities. Only Disney has accepted mine.

Most organizations never heard of it and do not trust it. Medical facilities require you permit them to copy your license which has never made me feel comfortable.

I have had numerous casual encounters with people in law enforcement. All have said either they never heard of it or they did but never bothered to download the verification app. Only one of over the dozen I talked with downloaded it after our conversation.

I very much like the addition of vehicle registration information but the info entered by DMV is not complete. It can not be utilized for proof of registration because of that. Insurance information is part of the matrix too but it remains blank.

I believe this is the future of identification but there needs to be more effort made to inform the public, get law enforcement cooperation and complete data entry. I realize the money required to do it is not easily allocated however I will be surprised if physical licenses are still in use in the next 10-20 years.

Despite those issues I am happy this app is being implemented.

**Developer response:** Thanks, we're glad you like the app!
